ive always had a soft spot for anime but i never had much exposure to it, besides the latest Astro Boy series (2003 i think?).

but i recently spent a night with a local fur watching the entire box set of Desert Punk.
have to say that i LOVED it.
even though the english dubbing had noticeable quirks here and there it mattered not, as the show had a serious and a non-serious side. and i love the way that the voice actors sometimes carried over a little bit longer to fill the animation sequence. like when the japanese phrase took longer to say than in english, thus it would have normally left a 2 second animation bit with no voice, hence the actors filled it with a random piece of dialogue which turned out to be rather funny in most cases  Cheesy

we also watched 'Prince Mononoke' which i also really enjoyed.

next on my to-watch list is the infamous Gundam series  Cheesy

Which version? There's like, over 30 if you include all the series and movies...

Yeah, um... "good luck with the rest of your life".

Seriously though, I've never heard of this (titular, not Gundam) series... what is it even about?

Ziel, dunno yet, whatever i find access too. most likely 'Wing' but i honestly have no idea.

Whitestorm, are you referring to Desert Punk? if so it is set in a post apocalyptic setting that is so far ahead in time that our present day is referred to the 'dark ages' and any technology they have within the universe is derived from studying artefacts found from previous times. it seems the technology tree pretty much started again.
the main character is a mercenary who uses cheap tricks and optical illusions to defeat the 'bad guys' but as the series progressed it became slightly more sinister.
yes it has some mildly dirty references but nothing that would not render it past a PG rating IMO and this is what i liked. It seems that a lot of Anime have rather explicit stuff, that which i really dont care about, i'm there to watch the story, not look up short skirts  Dead

so far my life is intact though  Shocked
i have not filled my bookshelf with DVD's yet  Upside down

And princess mononoke... If she was real....Horrible horrible things I would do to her.  Embarrassed
