copics and prismas are amazing, if you like markers (i personally dont) and take a little getting used to. but they bledn really well, their your best chance even though their uber expensive.
colored pencils really depends, i like crayola just because i like how smooth they are and the fact that their affordable. alot of other people like rosearts, ive never tried them. Theres also higher qaulity pencils that are in art stores
and i've never done anything with cardstock so im not much help there

When I'm doing something for my art class I usually use Crayola colored pencils. I've never worked with markers before because I'm not good with them. But some practice could change that. But back to colored pencils.. my friend Mackie let me use his Prisma colored pencils and they are smooth and produce a nice color. But the con is that they are expensive.. so it all depends on your budget. X3

For colouring pencils I use Bruynzeel Design myself.
Only I dunno if they're sold worldwide.
But I haven't found any better ones yet.

These pencil aren't greasy which some brands tend to be.
Also the give more colour, leaving more darker colours.

If you are looking for a smooth trans between colors, use Prisma colored pencils the oil based ones.  They work like a Pastel but are very easy to controll, plus you don't get that ugly tweture when you mix two colors to forusfully like you do with crayola.  But if you are cheap like me and can bearly afford Crayola, get crayola.  they are worth the money you place into them.

Yep, another vote for crayola for me, the only easily available and affordable pencil crayons that I've got along with, and I'm pretty fussy. My favoured brand I picked up in Belgium and seems impossible to get hold of this century.

get crayola for practice. Prismas are expensive and so are copic. It's best to get some skills down before using eather.

Well that's always good. I just started into colors not to long ago and so far I find that markers are the most manipulative once you get the hang of them.

Colored pencils are also manipulative cause they are easily to blend. (my main use to blend penicls was the white pencil) Here's an example - Gigatech Tranquility

So enjoy experimenting, yo!

EDIT: Yeeeeaaaaah about the size of the image... im still trying to do something about that... ><;;;

Switching from Bruynzeel to...Derwent!

This english brand makes awesome pencils for an average price.
And it's one of the brands that hasn't been sold to Japan...
(Which is a good thing.)

I use a lot of prismas, both markers and pencils, for coloring. I have to say, I love my markers, the pencils are good too, but I only do a few color drawings a year as of now.

Prismacolor pencils are waxed based and prone to wax bloom.  I don' know if their lightfast ones are wax, but eh, just spray enough fixitive on it and it shouldn't happen, but it's easy to wipe off even if it does from what people have said.  They're good all the same and you can usually find a decent deal on them on ebay.(About $75 plus shipping for 120 set...not bad.)  Then you have pencils like the Faber-Castell Polys which are actually Oil, and the Caran D'Ache also.  They are often more expensive than Prismas.  All the different colored pencils act differently and have their strengths and weaknesses.  Same with markers.  On the colored pencil note, proof of this is in ticonderogas, which are a pain to use, a pain to blend, but under the right circumstances and all, they can produce some awesome effects.

Copics, in the long run, turn out cheaper than Prismas because they're refillable.  Prismas, in my mind, are easier to blend and you can actually build up from dark to light to a certian extent with them, which is impossible with Trias.  o.o  You can check out Neopikos, they're pricey, but not as much so as Copics as they aren't as good, but still higher end than Prismas.  o.o  There have also been two new brands, Chartpaks and Shin Han to hit the market recently, but I haven't heard anything about either of these.
