Okay, I... might be there tomorrow and Saturday, just volunteering though. Let's just say my mom refused to let go of her baseless stereotypes for furries, and I had to do a lot of talking with a lot of people.

But anyway, if you see a volunteer with hippie hair, cargo pants, and a rucksack, the odds are pretty good it'd be me, so don't be afraid to say hi.  Smiley Or just scream "YO, GEAR!" and see if that volunteer turns around.  Cheesy

I'm putting this everywhere as my report of how things went (badly):

An apology, an explanation and a promise

Apology:
I think I understand the late 10th Doctor a little better.  I'm sorry.  I'm so sorry.  No one can be more disappointed with how things went than me.  If the meet happened, I wasn't there.  The parade was great but I couldn't make it.  I was at Anthrocon but stuck in my room the entire weekend with only about five pictures taken from when I arrived and that's it for my involvement.  I wasn't even able to get word to most people about my condition so I'm sure they were left wondering where I went.  I had been looking forward to this con for over a year and the meet more than my own graduation

Explanation:
I was sick.  It's a bugger, but there we are.  I got in on Thursday feeling fine but stressed and as time passed I got worse.  By Friday I was queasy and tired.  By Saturday afternoon I could barely walk and my stomach felt awful.  Some combination of stress, overwork and worry about how things would go did me in.

Promise:
I spent almost a year getting ready and geared up for AC 2012 and months organizing the quadsuit meet.  Now I have even longer.  If we can all manage it next year, neither law, nor love, nor league of swords, dread nor danger, not doom itself shall stop me from making that meet.  For Gallifrey, victory etc.

I'm back! Smiley Awesome con! From my understanding, Registrations for the con hit over 5000 people.  Shocked And the fursuit parade had about 1044 suiters! Woohoo! I missed closing ceremonies, so I don't know the exact figures.
I'll have a con report and pics available later. Everything at the con went great. My only gripe was that I missed going to Primati's. Everything went fine till I had to pack up and go home Sunday night. Had an awful migraine headache and pain which necessitated me going to the emergency room at the hospital after I got home Monday evening.  Dead Am feeling better today though.

But anyway, good con, great seeing friends there, and I hope to be back next year.........with a new version 2.0 Kobuk Husky fursuit..........after I pay the hospital bill first, that is.  Tongue

Well, missing this year by the skin of my teeth has taught me two things. One, don't ever assume your mother will have an open mind to anything ever. Two, all the planning in the world doesn't do you any good if Mapquest's walking directions suck.

Going to try........after I pay all my recent medical bills first though.  Tongue

Anyway..........IMPORTANT NEWS FOR AC2013 THAT I HEARD AT THE SUPERSPONSOR LUNCHEON:
Plans are still be discussed amongst AC staff, but there could possibly be one of the meeting rooms next to the Supersponsor Luncheon room to be used as a fursuit dressing area for suiters to get dressed in their suits in time for the parade without having to quickly eat their lunch, then run back to their room to get dressed, then run back down to the DLCC to be in the parade. Whether this is just for Supersponsors who go to the lunch or for others is unknown.

Secondly, there is talk of revising the hotel room reservation system. In the past, it was people who wanted suites that got to go first, then everybody else at a later date. Now, it could be:
Registering for suites is first.
Second is people who registered as Supersponsors who get next bookings.
Third is everybody else.

So........there could be three seperate hotel room registration times/formats. How this will all work out is unknown and is still under discussions by AC staff.

And for those that missed AC, One of the highlights on Friday evening was a special North American screening of the furry film "Bitter Lake".
Quote
The website is here:
http://bitterlakethemovie.com/
And most of the suits were made from here:
http://www.clockworkcreature.com/
I found the film to be absolutely amazing. I even bought the DVD (Can be ordered from the FurPlanet website.). The story may be simple and there's not a lot of action, but it's pure awesomeness nonetheless considering it was made with a shoestring budget of $5000 and only a handful of people. I highly recommend getting it.

And Friday evening was also a special performance by a Japanese fursuiter/acrobat by the name of Sardyuon. This person's performance doing juggling acts and balancing on chairs, all while in fursuit, was nothing short of amazing. Smiley He even performed during the Masquerade as well as doing an encore performance on Sunday. A sample of his performance is here:

Once again, I infer that this was an amazing con.  It makes me think about what the furry fandom will be like in say 10 or 20 years.  How many furry films will they be screening then? Cheesy  Anyways, I'm glad you all had a great time!

Me too! I mentioned Bitter Lake to some furs and they scoffed at me about it. They said they were unimpressed by it blah blah. Even if it isn't full length or with a million dollar budget, its really well made! That and I feel if we don't support the people making the first leaps into the genre, it could hinder other people deciding to go into it as well.

Furry movies go!

I second this. There was a Bitter Lake thread started on the AC website forums. A lot of posts in there were very "unforgiving" toward the film.  Angry The people who made Bitter Lake did something really good that nobody else had ever attempted to the best of my knowledge. They should be praised for their work. They took the first small steps into furry movie making that will undoubtably set the standard for future furry films to come.

If we as a fandom don't support projects like this, then what does that say about us to the future people who want to do similar projects? Basically, It just makes us look like naysayers and nitpickers and putdowners.  Tongue If the Star Trek fanbase can have a lot of fan made films and other projects, then why can't the furry fandom?
