For purposes I'm not going to post...  Also i am curious just in general to see what you guy's think...

What would make a good common enemy to:

furries
Anthro characters in general?

trolls?  no... because...  that's gotten rather cliche and it's not all that true anyways...  IMO anyways...

So,  if furry characters had a common enemy in an RP...  Or a story... or movie... Whatever....   What would it be?   (You can say trolls i guess if you have a good reason behind it.)

Thanks  ^^

EDIT:  Please give a little bit of explination   Upside down   That will make this more fun.

Rock creatures probably. Or if it's just against anthro furry creatures (as in, the ones with fur), then Scalies or Aquatic dudes.

The plant human hybrid idea is interesting.   The orks in the warhammer universe are like that from what i understand.   Lol i think they would end up looking too much like trolls though,  wouldn't they?

The stereotype is noble furries in tune with nature, versus evil strip-mining human technology. With that in mind, here are some ways to turn the stereotype on its head!

  • Technologically advanced furries versus humans who are primitive / in tune with nature
  • Noble humans making a stand against teh ebil furry hordes
  • Evil human and furry leaders sending their poor unsuspecting armies to battle against each other
  • Furries versus "something completely different!" Like Relaxing Dragon's rock creatures (hey, why not?), or dragons, or aliens (which are of course bloodthirsty, everyone knows that) ...
  • Furries reconciling with something instead of deciding to / discovering that they have to kill it

Personally, after reading a lot of furry / TF stories where the furs are unnecessarily brutal, or furs / nature respond with force all out of proportion to what the humans had done, I found the idea of humans fighting a desperate battle against furs to be very compelling.

One could always have the furries be some kind of genetically engineered super-race, unnatural and horrifyingly enhanced with technology. ^.^ That's almost the premise of Vendetta Online right there -- the peaceful, monklike Itani human culture versus the warlike and aggressive Serco faction, who don't mind using genetically engineered weapons or even "enhancing" themselves.

When I played the game, I always imagined that there were furries involved somewhere, and that I was playing a fur who was part of the "independent" faction of spacefaring traders and miners.

The above stereotype is really just a subtext of the sort of meta-genre known as pastoralism or pastoral writing, in which life in the country is idealized and life in an urban, civilized environment tends to be downplayed. And it's been done to death, which is why I class it as a meta-genre. Really, what makes furries different from just an average Native American tribe in that context?

Now, if you turn the stereotype on its ear, just ever-so-slightly, that can create a compelling concept. I think a wonderful example of this is the example of human primitives versus a more advanced race of anthropomorphs, although it is a bit reminiscent of Planet of the Apes. Still, I believe it a concept largely unexplored, and if humans were pitted against, say, a race of dextrous raccoons, it would definitely be a story worth exploring.

I couldn't agree more! I'm getting antsy to read something like this (with more than just apes Upside down ) right now! It's a very interesting idea! Tech-furries vs 'romantic' humans! You could put it to when people were heavily into the romantic era, but it's all up to on the finer details of course.

A "common enemy" to anthros? Hmmmm? The main enemy that usualy appears time after time in various stories is generaly humans. While writing about humans vs. anthros is easy, it can also be too overdone at times.  Tongue More emphasis needs to be placed on imagination when creating characters and other lifeforms to go up against anthros. Aliens from other worlds is a good example. Robots too. It's very rare that I ever hear or read a story of robots vs. anthros.

I suspect your thread here is to get opinions/suggestions for a story or RP you plan to do. If not, then I am mistaken.  Embarrassed I'm not sure I can explain that well what I want to post here, but I'll try.

For another possible enemy to anthros, What about other anthros? Specieism perhaps? Herbivores vs. carnivores, etc.? Or maybe two different planets of anthros in a war against each other?

Or what about the following: Imagine a scenario/world where humans create anthros for slave purposes or some other reason. Then jump ahead a few years or something to where the Earth has first contact with another alien civilisation , only the aliens are also anthros, BUT they have a culture of beliefs that they are "true" anthros and that only indiginous anthros that developed and evolved normally/naturally should survive or conquer space. Any anthros that are "created" should be "cleansed" (wiped out) as they are unpure and not true anthro creatures. Thus, a war develops on Earth between the created anthros and the "pure" anthros, with the humans caught in the middle.

Well, as the old saying goes: "If you want to read something, write it." Or did I just make that up? Eh, probably. It's quite true, though.

I'm sure that all of us here, most especially me, would be more than happy to loan a few ideas.

I personally find 'humans as enemies' a little overdone & predictable.

The potential for a furry's own worst enemies, both in fiction & real life, is in other furries.

Kobuk mentioned carnivore vs henbivore, and in the 80s especially the fandom seemed to have a lot of stories that centered on this theme.  These would be great sources of study.

But you can also be less literal on the 'enemy/war' theme when there's a whole mess of social battles you can concoct.  For example,  warring social ideals.  For example:  How conflict can arise between developing certain social behaviors needed for successful city dwelling vs. instincts (fighting over who gets to ride on the elevator), or an anthro vs. feral prejudice (what would the reaction be in an advanced anthro society if an anthro became involved with a feral?).

No matter what you decide on---have fun with it!
