[Drive me closer! I want to hit them with my sword!- Warhammer 40K]

Hi there everyone! I'm Jordie, and I'm looking for a new community to belong to.

I've felt drawn to the furry community for a while, and I consider myself to be a furry, but I can be shy, and joining a new crowd is difficult for me. But my old haunt, a video game forum, has been going downhill for a while and isn't as active as it used to be. I've been feeling lonely, and I'm eager to make some new friends, both on the Web and off. So I'm stepping into new territory.

My Fursona came to me quite easily. I normally take a long time making decisions, but I felt intuitively that I was a reptile of some kind - a snake, or perhaps, a dragon. After umming and ahhing about it some, it came down to dragon. A silver dragon, to be precise. I like silver. But from what I understand, a fursona need not be final, and many people here have more than one... This is a relief to me, as I like to have room to change. I have a feeling that my dragon will change much.

So, once again, hi! I'm happy to be here, and look forward to meeting you all!

Ah, cool, questions

At a guess, I'd say I've felt like a furry for upwards of a year, but never took the initiative to join the community and socialize with other furries until now. A few days ago, I was reading Wikifur. I clicked a link to Furtopia, and thought, "You know what, I think I'll join." I realized, after reading so much about furries and being so interested in the fandom, that I was one of you But I'd been peripherally aware of Furtopia, Furaffinity and other furry web sites for much longer than that. It's hard to spend as much time on the Internet as I do and not hear about furries - usually in a negative context, unfortunately. People resist the unusual. I remember that my first impression of furries, when I was very young, about 13 or 14 (I'm 20 now), wasn't at all positive either - being honest here. But over time, I got used to and came to like the idea of furries. Then, I started to become one.

I suppose my number one reason for being interested in the fandom is that for a long time, I've felt that I don't belong with people. That I'm not quite human, even. I make friends easily and get along with others, but social situations don't feel natural or comfortable to me - they feel like work. And besides my folks, I've never met anyone who was special to me. I've been single all my life and have never made a lasting friend. I feel disappointed - with other people, with life and the way we are expected to live it, with the time that I live in, with the being that I am. This is not a world I want to be a part of, and I would change it if I could. If I was offered the chance to become an alien or part animal, I would jump at it. (I guess you could say that's why I chose a mythical creature to be my fursona - to express that I feel "not of this earth".) I remembered reading about the furry and Otherkin communities on the web and thought maybe that was the gang I should run with... Just because I'm different, doesn't mean I have to be alone.

Also, I hear many furries came to the fandom from poor mental health or a difficult life. I can relate, though I don't want to go into the specifics right now. I believe you should be careful with how freely you give out such personal info. Maybe once I feel more at home here, I can talk about such things.

Nice. Another dragon joins Furtopia! I like reptilian characters a lot. i wish i could draw them, but I like detail...and all those scales! I'll stick to dogs for now I guess....
