Pokemon GO!
« on: July 12, 2016, 11:28:21 am »
The newest Pokemon sensation to hit the U.S. and/or world is here. I'm not a player and really couldn't care about it. But I thought I'd make a topic here and see what everybody else thinks about it.

Huge fan. I can't actually play it yet, but it's already getting people out and socialising with each other more.

Really looking forward the official UK release.

I have had the game for two days now (and I  have never been a fan before then) and I seem to always want to go outside and try to catch em all! I've never been a physically active person, but I was outside for most of the day today. (even though it was 95F/33C degrees outside) It's actually been helping with my mood swings and anxiety these last two days also! I've met about 7 people just in my town that I'm now friends with! It's amazing! I'm really enjoying it thus far.
The loveliest day I ever had, was the day when tomorrow never came.

Sunlight is evil, therefore I can't play it  x_x I also have better things to do with my life such as playing other games that don't involve going outside  :P

The idea is interesting though. I played a game with a similar concept (geo location based games) called Ingress. I find that these games encourage people to waste fuel and to pay more on their phone bills. Though they do encourage socializing and exercise (if you don't drive everywhere).

I wasn't much of a Pokemon fan as a kid, and I don't have time as an adult to aimlessly wander while staring at my phone (I do that anyway, every time I go outside!)  :P

My current smartphone doesn't meet the RAM requirement to run the app, would have liked to at least try the app out myself, it looks like an interesting twist to the traditional Pokemon game.

I tried it, I liked it for a while but then my phone decided that it didn't like the game. I feel kind of left out, but oh well.

I'm sure it's a nice game and all. And I'm glad it's getting people outdoors and socialising more. But there's a downside as well from what I've been hearing and reading. Too many places are banning people from playing the game, people are getting injured or looking for Pokemon in the wrong places, and so much more.

With Pokemon Go, you cannot walk/move faster than 5 km per hour or it will not count towards the distance accumulating towards hatching your poke-eggs. ( I know because I was running to try to hatch faster and it counted NONE of the 5 km I ran :c)

I'm sure it's a nice game and all. And I'm glad it's getting people outdoors and socialising more. But there's a downside as well from what I've been hearing and reading. While many people are kind of stupid and are looking in the wring places etc, the game at the very beginning warns you to remain alert of your surroundings. The phone will make a noise and/or vibrate when a Pokemon is near. There is also going to be an addition to the game in the near future where people can pay for their location (if not a historical/ interesting location) to be a Pokestop. Also, in the near future, I hear that they are also adding a request for removal of a Pokestop.

People are also complaining about the servers crashing all the time but Niantic is a tiny company that has recently launched arguably the most popular (mobile phone) game in years in several countries all around the world.

I got my game working again. Quick question for those who have been playing and gotten past level 5- which team are you on? I'm on instinct.

I'm actually pretty indifferent about Pokemon Go, though.  I doubt i'd play it even if i was able to, i don't get out of the house too much.
Only happy when you hurt.
Only deadly in a swarm.
Only healthy in the dirt.
