I for one would prefer my future significant to at least be indifferent to furries, even better if the person was a furry themselves. I would never even consider an anti-fur as a mate, because I feel that on the outside they might say "Furries are an OK group of people," they might still think "Furries are sick, perverted people who have nothing for a life, except, of course, my significant other who could do no wrong".
What's your take? To date, or not to date? That is the question.

'furry' or 'not furry' are too vague to mean anything to me one way or the other.

I feel the same way x.x. I'm not going to change to make someone accept me, no matter how I view them as a person, be it boy/girlfriend, best friend since day 1, or enemy.

Through my observations of people in general, be it furry or some other fandom/hobby, it is pretty important that the person accepts you for who you are. This would include at a minimum, accepting and/or allowing you to enjoy your hobbies. However, in the theoretical case of me dating*, I wouldn't be all "I'm a furry, take me or leave me" from the start. It would be something that just comes up at some point in the relationship. If they didn't accept it, that would probably be a good sign that it's a person I don't want to continue dating.
In short, no, they don't have to be a furry. They just can't be anti-furry.
*I can't know this from personal experience, just through observing other people. I have never dated and never really plan to. It's just not something I care to get involved in.

If my boyfriend isn't a furry but accepted the fact that I was a furry and he didn't care if he was seen with someone who wears a tail, collars, and ears I would date him. Now, if he tottaly hated the idea and was trying to change me or would be embarrested to be around me then I may not date him; but I would tell him that there is nothing wrong with me being a furry and at least try to change his mind about furries.
So no, if my BF isn't a furry I wouldn't care; but if me was mean to me and juged me for it then I would not date him.

This. In response to the OP, my answer, on account of a technicality, is "no".

I've dated non-furs, and my current mate is a fur. Honestly, it doesn't matter to me. As long as they can accept that I am a fur, I don't care if they love it or aren't that keen on it. It's nice if they are in to it because it gives you one more thing to have as common ground, but honestly I don't think I would care either way.

But even if I did, I don't think them being furry would be too terrible, unless they perhaps absolutely hated it (but even then, if we were to start an argument over that, I can't imagine what would happen if we were to get into any other argument...)

I honestly think that some sort of agreement between me and my partner on issues such as religion, politics and which football teams we go for would be more important, personally. I probably wouldn't bother bringing up furry things because it seems kind of irrelevant in my case.

This. I'd like it if whoever I date is appreciative of it rather than just neutral, because I'm a sap and I'd like drawing cutesy pictures of us together. But it's a give or take on the list of qualities I look for in a companion.

I think I would like my significant other to be a furry. I tried to date a guy who wasn't and it was difficult to hide my furryness from him. And I never can explain it in a good way, so it just makes problems >.<
So yes to a furry significant other.

Yes. It's not necessarily the deciding factor, but it'd weight into it. It's very important that they be someone that I don't feel restricted being around them, and part of that means they'd need to be at least tolerant of furry stuff.

My mate himself is not a furry, but we often rp that we are intelligent feral animals. :3 So, I'd say he's fairly accepting!.

Well, I am eyeing this girl going to my college who I know is highly likely to be a fur...
But it holds little more than another interest we can share. There is more to me than jst fur, that it isn't deciding, but as others have said, they have to at least be accepting, which they would have to eventually anyway, im so insane

A furry mate would be fantastic, but highly unlikely as the amount of furries in Belgium is extremely low. Still, were she not someone I think is comfy with the fandom I would simply not say it.

I couldn't date someone who hates furries. I tried that, and hated it. He also thought everyone who liked My Little Pony was a furry. Here's how dating him went.
Everyone who watches MLP is a furry--->Furries are all gay (he used another word here)--->My brother watches MLP--->My brother is a furry--->My brother is gay. I would hear that non-stop from him. Any time he saw me looking at pictures of animals he would ask me (not in a nice way) if I was a furry. Of course I was, but he had a few other issues with anger and whatnot that made me very reluctant to actually admit I was a furry. So I lied.
Basically, no dating anyone who isn't willing to let me be a furry.

That would be... interesting. I'd be afraid I'd start dreaming in fluorescent pink. I couldn't date someone who hates furries. I tried that, and hated it. He also thought everyone who liked My Little Pony was a furry. Here's how dating him went.

Pretty much lol. His friends teased him once about being a furry because one of his exes (other than me) was a furry, so he decided he would hate all furries. He had some anger issues. Mention the word "furry" and he would rage for literally 5 minutes. It was kinda funny now that I think back on it.

How is this question different from asking a gay man "would you only date another man if he was gay?"
Firstly, Welcome to Furtopia! I hope you have a lovely time here. On the home page there should be a place to introduce yourself, if you'd like. Secondly, there are more factors than just gay/furry and not-gay/not-furry going on. A gay man, because of the fact that he is gay, would more than likely only date another gay or bisexual man (or at least, a man who is questioning his sexuality a bit). A furry, however, is not like being gay/not gay. It's a hobby above all things. So I'd say this question is more like asking a fan of Star Trek "Would you only date someone if s/he was another Star Trek fan?". Although, furry can be a lifestyle for some (collars, tails, ears on a headband etc.), it's not for others (the only time they show their furry hobbies is on the internet). Besides all that, you could date either A) another furry B) a non-fur (someone who isn't a furry, but isn't a anti-fur either) or C) an anti-fur. I was basically asking "Which of those choices do you prefer, and which one would be your bare minimum?" if that makes any sense.
