heh cute ^^
I've actually seen such friendships before: its a way of getting a normally shy wild animal to appear before large crowds, a human-familiarized domenstic animal (usually a dog), will be made friends with them, so that when the dog is happy & content with a large audience or crowd, the other animal will see that the dog is not afraid, and will thus take security from that. IE, the san diego zoo has such a friendship with one of their wild cats who makes public appearences - as I recall that the dog there was also a golden retriever (And not entirely by chance) X3

That's a really clever strategy.

And everyone says, "Awww~~~".
They are really cute. And that strategy is quite useful, getting a wild/nervous animal to calm down by familiarizing it with another, another, more friendly animal as a companion.

Dr. Peter Venkman: This city is headed for a disaster of biblical proportions. Mayor: What do you mean, "biblical"? Dr Ray Stantz: What he means is Old Testament, Mr. Mayor, real wrath of God type stuff. Dr. Peter Venkman: Exactly. Dr Ray Stantz: Fire and brimstone coming down from the skies! Rivers and seas boiling! Dr. Egon Spengler: Forty years of darkness! Earthquakes, volcanoes... Winston Zeddemore: The dead rising from the grave! Dr. Peter Venkman: Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together... mass hysteria! (I could not help myself )

Type square brackets around "img" one side of the url and square brackets around "/img" on the other side. ([ i m g ] url goes here [ / i m g ] <--except without the extra spaces.) There's also a little button with a tiny square picture of a landscape on the far left, right above all the little cat emoticons. And those are really cute.

This also all makes me think of Owen and Mzee, the orphaned hippo and the giant tortoise who took him under his... um... wing?

I'm surprised no body linked to one of the more infamous unlikely friends, Ao-chan the snake and Gohan-chan the hamster. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-IG4kceZBWA

I’ve never heard of those two before, but that is definitely beyond strange, almost creepy.
Here is another I came across, A Macaque Monkey adopted by a White Pigeon… (click picture for story.)
