The 2012 Summer Olympics will be starting soon in London. Is anybody here an Olympics fan? What are your favorite sports to watch?

I'm really excited for it. I love when they come around. Unfortunately, I'm not sure how much I'll really get to watch, since I'll be at work most of the time they would be having live coverage due to the time difference. Hopefully there will be some good, extensive coverage available online for them.
As for sports to watch, as an avid tennis fan, I would love to get to watch some of that. Though I'm partial to any racquet sports, really. If I happen to catch any on, I'll be glued to the computer when they show badminton and/or table tennis. Unfortunately, these are often the events that get ignored by the media...

I wub the Olympics! Back in the dark ages B.P. (Before Pony), the Olympics were literally the only thing I'd turn my TV on for in two years. It's funny, because I dislike sports normally. Competition, in general, makes me uncomfortable. But something about the Olympic spirit, plus the more individual nature of the events (it's less like country vs. country and more like individual athletes trying to do their best)... plus the fact that when a small-country athlete wins a medal, it's just such an occasion for joy... I don't know. I love it. Team sports don't interest me, really, but I'm hoping to catch a lot of the more individual competitions. Track! Swimming! Diving! Cycling! The marathon! Gymnastics has always been a favorite of mine. And trampoline is just awesome, on the off chance I actually catch the like 15 minutes of air time it gets. Anyone know when the opening ceremonies are?

Friday the 27th. Looks like they happen at 4pm Eastern. I actually shouldn't miss a whole lot of the live coverage of that, then. I tend to get home around 4 on Fridays, so that's almost perfect. Full schedule for the gamesNBC will be providing online coverage of all events, it sounds like (in the US; not sure about elsewhere). However, you will need to have your internet or TV service provider verified to watch there. I just did, so I'm good to go for when the fun starts up.

I'm not excited about it. I barely even watched the Olympics before they were in the country I lived in, and now honestly I have become fed up with all the fuss about the torches passing through whichever area I happen to be in. Plus all the disruptions that are going to happen when the Olypmics actually properly start...
I'm not really in to watching sports anyway to be honest.

I won't be watching this year. Most of the time when I watched the Olympics I did so because my mom had it on and we'd watch together. It was a kind of a thing we had. Sadly my mom recently died of cancer and I don't really feel like watching by myself. I enjoyed watching with her, but it isn't something I'll watch by myself.

I'm interested in seeing the opening ceremonies of the Olympics especially; it's always fun to see how creative they can be. But other than that, I only keep up with the racquet sports (*winks to Ziel* ). Especially table tennis and regular tennis; table tennis can get so intense in such a short amount of time!

But both are super fun to watch. I also forgot to mention volleyball. I suppose it isn't a racquet sport, but it's still got a net in the middle, right?

Love the Olympics! (Summer and Winter games). So...anytime I am home/near a TV the Olympics will be on. Not sure if I will be working (job may or may not still be going by the time they get into swing, I don't know yet), but hopefully I will be able to catch a fair bit of it all.
My fav Summer game sports are probably the swimming, gymnastics and tennis. Though I am very fond of the weightlifting and fencing as well.

So, even though the Opening Ceremonies are going on right now (as long as I converted my times right and the schedule hasn't changed), I have to wait until 7:30 (EST) to actually see it here. So the coverage I get to see will be recorded.
What frustrates me most, is that this is the online coverage, which is supposed to have live coverage of nearly all the sporting events. I understand showing a recording of the ceremonies during primetime for most people to see. But they should put up live coverage online for those who want to see it as it is happening.
Apparently I spoke too soon. What I actually meant to say was that NBC isn't actually streaming the Opening Ceremonies online anywhere, live or not. So their TV broadcast will be pre-recorded and shown hours after it has already happened, and those without an actual TV (like myself) have no chance to watch it at all. And I've heard nothing but great things about it, too. Like, they're supposedly out-doing China's opening, from everything I've heard. And I don't get to see any of it...

I don't care much for physical competition myself. But I usually end up watching some of the events if I am not busy at something else..
I actually like the winter Olympics better.

I recently stated to view the Olympics a la 21 century style. I find TV viewing to much of a distractions and frankly I do not like to invest much time and emotional capital just to be set up for disappointment. I rather read the even after it happens in the news then go back in restream it on line or watch the prim time coverage later. For example I did not watch yesterday because of the disposition men gymnastic performance but I will was today. There are a few event I would watch regardless of nation win or lose include boxing, wrestling , martial arts, and weight listing.
I find tv viewing too distracting, I wanted to practice my art but I was glued to the opening ceremony. I got con panels to plan and things to do an tv just gets in the way.
