Daylight Saving Time. Move clocks ahead.
« on: March 10, 2017, 11:41:42 am »
Daylight Saving Time is this weekend. So for those in the U.S., just a reminder to set your clocks forward one hour before you go to bed Sat. or Sun. night. I forget which night it is.  :-[

All of this started because some rich jerk wanted to collect butterflies and had connections in congress. *sigh*

Quote
During his time as an American envoy to France, Benjamin Franklin, publisher of the old English proverb "Early to bed, and early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise", anonymously published a letter suggesting that Parisians economize on candles by rising earlier to use morning sunlight. This 1784 satire proposed taxing window shutters, rationing candles, and waking the public by ringing church bells and firing cannons at sunrise. Despite common misconception, Franklin did not actually propose DST; 18th-century Europe did not even keep precise schedules. However, this soon changed as rail transport and communication networks came to require a standardization of time unknown in Franklin's day.

Modern DST was first proposed by the New Zealand entomologist George Hudson, whose shift work job gave him leisure time to collect insects and led him to value after-hours daylight.

My own vehicle's clock updated automatically, as did my cel phone and caller ID box. However, the clock/radio in the work vehicle had to be updated manually.

I always felt if they wanted to save daylight, why only in the
summer. The winter is the one with short days. Actually if I remember
right Benjamin Franklin first proposed daylight savings time..

Personally I would just as soon they would leave it one way or
the other.

I certainly don't care for it.
It's only March and it's light out at 7:00pm now. Night is the nice peaceful time when I can relax, and now I have to wait till later in the day for it. >:(
In the summertime where I live it is still daylight and often hot until 8:30pm, and the latest of sunsets in late June has it still light out until 9:20pm, we don't need it to be that late.
