(Mods/Admins:  kindly relocate this if you think there's a more appropriate section Smiley )

Coming back to a new format can be a little confusing. It's natural to bemoan the loss of some of our old features.  But we also should applaud what we like about the new.

For one thing, it's kind of a downer to get nothing but negative feedback when a necessary change is made.  For another, I'd hate to see any nifty new bells & whistles removed because our admins didn't think anybody used them or liked them.

So, let's take a little time to say what we like about Furtopia's new forum!

Two things I really like:
If I want a word or section underlined, italicized, etc--all I need do is highlight it & choose.  I can also now insert emoticons, quotes, italics, etc anywhere I wish to!
In the old forums they always appeared at the end of whatever I was posting, so I either had to cut & paste or just type in the commands myself.

I also like all the options for posting are a little more user-friendly...strikeout, font size, & color are all more accessible, plus we have options of centering, etc.  Pretty darned spiffy!

Kwan pretty much summed it up for me.  I haven't had much time on the forums since they've been up, but it's those little things which make the experience all that much more enjoyable.  Additionally, I noticed that the sub-forums are more accessible, which is nice and might help traffic there.  Ooh, and now I'm on a roll and remembered the "updated thread" notification--if I'm posting and someone has posted between me and the last guy, it helps to be notified.  That will help avoid reply confusion (and save many people the taste of Dr. Scholl's).

And this isn't a "feature," but I think the new forum layout looks cleaner.  Aesthetics may be arguable, but the slight changes in looks appeal to me.

Yeah the new forums layout is much cleaner and in my opinion easier to use. I also notice the forum uses less time to load pages up.

Oh, there's a lot I like about the new forum software;
- The "insert quote" feature.  While you're writing a reply, you can select one or more other messages to quote from the thread.
- The ability to upload your own avatar.  It will even resize it for you so it fits inside the limits.
- The collapsible sections in the main screen.  There are a lot of boards (too many, perhaps), but now I can just hide the ones I'm usually not interested in.  Looks a lot tidier that way.
- Mobile support.
- RSS feeds.
- Theme switching.
- And like Roffo noticed: speed!  SMF has a much better database structure, and isn't such a resource hog as IB.

There's also a lot behind the scenes that is pretty cool, but I won't bore you with the technical details. Wink

I like the avatar thing too.  And the fact that the topics de-highlight (is that a word?)  when you've looked at them.

I'm getting a lot of use out of Go To Last Post button instead of having to click the button of the last page and scroll aaaall the way down. And these new font options are cool! Cheesy

Maybe it's because I'm not too active on here, but I can't say that I'm missing anything from the old boards (well, except maybe this little guy: , but I'm sure he'll turn up sometime soon). There's a lot I love about the new boards, though:

-I can do (this!) now!
-The read/unread threads icons on the forum main page are easier to tell apart on LCD screens.
-AJAX! I love AJAX stuff. Smiley
-The "view new posts" links seem to work better
-The editor is much prettier

The forums are just a lot nicer overall, and they don't feel like they belong to a website from the 90s anymore.

I agree with and love all these changes. I hated not being able to add in all that stuff wherever I wanted.

I like the new upload your own avatar option, the extra post edit buttons and the size of the post reply box whatsit. I haven't been on the new forums that much yet, so I'll probably find more stuff that I like about it.

I haven't done too much but wander the new forum, so I'm not too familiar with the posting features, but I really like the new pawprint icons next to the boards. *laugh* It's a lot cleaner and more realistic-looking.

I like posting in lime green color. Smiley

Of course you do  Wink

Seriously though, the adding in italics without having to type them in yourself, makes it a lot easier on us writers. I had to actually write in the on the text document so I didn't spend 30 minutes going through the whole thing and doing it manually on the boards v_v

The collapsable forum thing is very spiffy. There are certain sections I don't go to all the time, and it's good to hide away one of thm hat I really don't like going to, I practically don't see it now!

Since I was last here the editor icons have changed, and yes, it's must prettier and intuitive.

I miss the login box being there though, but I auto login now anyways. ^^

For those interested I just now added a forum spell checker.  It's in it's testing phase but you can let me know how it works for you.

I really love the new layout and design, so simple and minimal. i havent explored all the new stuff yet but so far i likes it alot. *EDIT* I also like that it tells you if new posts were made while you were writing your reply.

As far as looks go, I still prefer the old style, but there's 2 things that stood out big for me that I love.  The quick reply option, and auto subscribe to threads.  Not to mention it subscribes you indefinately, eliminating you having to re-sbscribe to old, but still active threads and not getting replies if you subscribed to it more than once.

I haven't used the search yet, but I know it was lacking in the old forum and I hope it's better now too.

All the new options you can choose when making polls (revoting, voting for multiple options) are very cool. Smiley

I also like how more threads are on each page, it means that it's now much longer before threads are pushed to the second page and forgotten. Smiley
