I've tried wearing a collar, but when no one was around. People round here don't really know what a furry is....yet.

I just got myself my first collar the other day. It's actually from The Collar Factory. They sure get a lot of business out of us furries, don't they? Has anyone else noticed that in the forums on their website, they have a whole section for Furries?
No Way! I didn't know we where that popular! I would love to get one of those snazzy leather collars with the buckle and everything, but I have more important ways to spend money. (Just blew $60 on a new CPU heatsink for my computer.) You know what I bet it is? We're really not that numerous, we're just persistent. Kinda like cockroaches. You don't really see a whole lot of them (except at gatherings), but they're impossible to get rid of. They're always there.

Why? Because I like being cliche, and then screwing it all up with furries.
All my thanks to everyone who runs and supports this forum! You've given me a haven to express myself and sort my own psyche out in a place where people are a far sight more accepting, and I've made mountains of personal growth since I've joined. So, I thank you from the bottom of my heart and soul!

I had to stop wearing my collar in public, recently. I dunno what it is about where i live but every seems so hostile lately. Anyways, i've had quite a few people yank on my collar and a few people have pushed me...I guess i do look wierd in my Urahara cap, Geta, Collar, and necklaces but i wish people would be more accepting. So till people cool down here i cant wear my collar. =(

I agree ^^ Once there's something openly furry, more will generally rally around it however, and establish a small, but visible presence in the community. At least, that's what happened in my community.

You sound like quite a character! Hold your head high, and be proud to be unique! If someone pokes fun at you, call them out on their BS! Don't let the mental myopia of the closed-minded ruin your fun!

I dont let people get me down, infact if people do start with me i tend to Antagonize them back, especially if it's about my collar. I'd prolly get into many fights if i didnt have friends with me to help keep things in check, but it's taht same antagonizing that's gonna land me a bad hurtin'...Not to mention i hate it when people yank on the collar...my parents do that enough.

lately, Ive been getting tons of positive comments about the collar. My science teacher called it "an original fashion statement" I also re-adjusted it so it hangs higher up on my neck.

Yeah I dont know about ever really wearing a collar, it would just look really wierd on me and I think other people would also look at me differently and it could mess with getting the job I want when I get older which is becoming a physisist. But then again maybe I could wear a collar on my own time and perhaps add like a dog collar tag with my name on it........ehh I dont know that already sounds really wierd.

Thats quite the dish there! Yes, wearing collars IS weird, mainly becuase its abnormal and associates with the bondage fetish. You have to be considerate with what you wear around people and your job. Thats good. I wear my spiked collar at school though, my friends and people dont mind. But if i get weird looks or comments, then ill have to accept it and agree. Becuase it is weird

It all really depends on the area. Im in jacksonville (AKA, Red Neck New York). Whenever I wear my collar out here, I get lots of different responces. I have nasty remarks, complaments, questions, and I have even been Flshed a few times . If I wear it here, its a mixed quiry of emotions. If I wore it in Yulee, I'd probably be hung from a tree. on the other hand, If I wore it in Fernandina, No one would give a rats tush. Being that I am in the service. I dont think I can get away with wearing it no more. not atleast with out my contract getting cut. I wonder if we furries will ever enjoy the bliss of acceptince.

I lived right near Regency. Wore a collar one to the Regency area Wal Mart. No one seemed to notice when I wore it, the one I wore was a plain black with white paw print one though, and fairly skinny so it isn't very obvious. I just wear a Phi Paw and assorted coyote buttons now. I actually miss Jax.

XD I have lived on University Blvd North (across from the university near Merril Rd), and on Monument near Regency. Jacksonville isn't so bad. Where I moved to is actually a lot worse. I'm scared to death to walk around some places here for fear of being shot by "farmers" if you know what I mean. I live in an area with the highest concentration of those farms in the world. Cops are very corrupt here as well (even worse than Jax). I wont stay here forever though. I'm only here for college and then I will save up some money and move to where there is more work and not a near 20% unemployment level and close to 40% poverty rate..

erm, duffman was an old friend who used to come here till about a year ago. 'sfar as collars go... i stand by my earlier statement... i think the line isn't too hard to see as far as what is ok and what should be avoided. i wouldn't wear one soley for the purpose of giving family and friends heart attacks... just be aware of what's going around you. If you have a deathwish and want to wear it to highschool, go for it. Your grandmother's funeral? Erm... maybe not so much...

where I'm from there are a lot of goth/emo/scene kids who wear collars of every shape and size..My advice to them is there are some nice looking and sturdy collars for ten dollars and up at pet smart. That's where I bought my red spiked collar and it has never once broken ripped or anything. real leather and looking good to this day <3

Lol Im going in as a Fleet Marine Force Corpsmen (FMF). Hopefully Il be placed with a recon unit, or Amphibious assault unit. Then I'l retire to the US NS Mercy.
Good luck in the Navy. We need good Corpsmen out here. You guys do an amazing job taking care of us (not to mention putting up with our crap). Even if you don't get placed with those crazy recon guys or with the amphib. guys chances are you'll go somewhere interesting. Being in the service limits my collar wearing a lot as well. My mate enjoys seeing me wear it around the house and public away from the military community. She says it's because I'm her wolf

When I first joined the fandom I was an avid collar wearer. I was fresh into college and I thought I had to show everyone who I was on the inside. Now that time has progressed(4 years but still in college @___@) I feel less obligated to wear it. I only wear mine in my room and at Anthrocon when I go. I also wear them when I wear fursuits since its not that awkward then haha.
