Well I should have it set up for all of the dances. If you don't see it actually in use, just come ask if you want to. I have another program or two I can switch between when the dancing one isn't so there's always something going on the screen. Just a matter of flipping a switch.

Putting final touches on my stuff. Building a 10 ft tall frame out of PVC pipe with a 6X9 ft "box" to hold a stretched 5X7 ft spandex screen is harder than you'd think. My mate, Allie, has been wonderful in getting the stuff and putting some of it together the past few days to make sure it'll work right while I'm on the road. I come home at the end of next week for a couple of days and we're gonna set it up outside to make sure it works ok (too tall for inside the house ). Will be a huge screen for a fraction of the cost to buy professional stuff. Though I plan on another frame solution later on when I get the money. Hauling around 50+ ft of PVC get's you funny looks.

I once made a Medieval Tent for a recreation group using 1-1/4" diameter wooden closet rods with PVC elbow joints connecting them, worked out great and was very very sturdy. I know some PVC tubes have just a little too much bend in longer lengths. Something you may want to consider using Narei. Wooden rods are much then PVC ofcourse, so only use them if they are more practical for your framework.
I was once a TD (technical director) for an English Speaking theatre troupe in Germany, so I have a pretty good mind for building stuff for entertainment purposes. Give me a yell if you need some advise or ideas on your set construction.
I am now really looking foward to MFF, definately think I'm going to have a fun weekend there.

Our concern is the thing being stable enough for the height. Allie made something like this in drama class before too. The frame will run straight up with one pole each side, a 4ft foot on both sides to the front and a longer foot on each side to the rear with angle braces from them to about 7ft up the body of the frame. It'll have the top cross member of course and then another about 6ft below that (4ft "legs" below the boxed frame). The screen is Lycra Spandex, so it'll help pull the bottom cross member up if need be, so only the top would need dowels inserted in the pipes if anything to help shore it up from the inside. It's gonna be rear projection, so I can't run any angle braces behind the screen. Basically what I'm making is a cheaper version of the DJ Screen, only at a fraction of the cost. They want $240 for just the screen, $330 for a screen and truss. The screen for me won't even run $30 in materials I think, and the whole thing for about $100.

Thats what I love about creative people. We can put something together for ourselves or our group, at a fraction of the cost then buying something retail. I'm no longer in the Theatre business (aside from some volunteer work for the local Drama Guild) but all that experience really helps when it comes to trying to save money on things needed for stuff. When you buy the dowel, make sure you buy the one needed for the PVC fittings you have. Standard closet rods usually come in two sizes; 1-11/16" and 1-1/4" Diameter. Tough to eyeball the differences, so pay attension when you buy it. This is ofcourse spoken from experience . Only 2-1/2 weeks to go til MFF. The organizers haven't put up a tentative online shedule by day yet, but I hope they do so soon. I remember there was one up last year about this time, so it should come soon.

And me having a degree in drafting doesn't hurt either. We went with the 2" pipe all the way around. Had to get some deeper couplers to keep the pipes from pulling apart without being supported, but it's all coming together great. Bought a camcorder and most of the rest of the hardware I'd need to get things tested and it is looking good. Really good! Took some running around to find the right VGA/KVM switcher, but once we got what we needed, it all went together without a hitch. The only things left are to stitch the reinforcement to the loops on the screen and get more cables/hardware that wont require testing. MFF also now has the program guide up on their site at http://furfest.org/2009/mff2009-events.html

Use Grommets for that screen, just dont poke holes in it and thread a string or wire. You can pick up a really cheap grommet hole puncher/crimper at any hobby/fabric/hardware store.
I've been monitoring your posts both in here and the MFF forums, but I'll try to just post replies here so keep it simple.
See you in 2 weeks.

But were they supposed to email me or send me something in the mail about it? Never got anything (and didn't get anything when I emailed them asking about it >_>).

*focuses camera onto Sage* Good, now I can calibrate my program. XD
RD, I never got anything other than the confirmation email from paypall about receiving my payment. I've seen hiccups like these happen with other cons and all the info was there at the registration desk, so I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Alrighty. That's basically what I figured, since I got the PayPal receipt as well, but I thought I saw something on the site saying they would send a confirmation notice my way, hence my concern. Should be fine when I actually get there.
I think I've got everything sorted out. Got most of the phone numbers I need, plane ticket's set, have all my stuff ready by next weekend... wait, is there a meet and greet for this con? I never got an answer on that last time. I'd just like to be sure I actually see everyone and say hello.

I'm up for one and I'm sure my mate is too, but we've been too busy getting things ready to try to organize anything. I.E. going for a dinner or something. It sounds like it'll be a relatively small group of furtopians, so shouldn't be too hard to pick a spot. Just need a time. Usually sundays are the slower times of a con, but I'm not gonna be too picky as long as it doesn't interfer with my setup/teardown time or Sage's wedding.

Shouldn't be a problem. And all thing's considered, Sage's wedding could also work as one, depending on how many Furtopians decide to crash it attend.

Sage is also a regular on the MFF board itself (like me) so she should have a good number of 'welcomed guests' to the reception/ceremony. We're just standing by to get the times and place.
If any of you have been monitoring the MFF boards, the event chairman, DdH, informed us that the Itialian Resturant tht was on the ground floor last year has closed and is unoccupied by a new resturant. So the hotel mgmt has given us the space as our Con Suite and bar facility. So there are a lot of tables, chairs and drinks available to us. This might be a great place to organize as a meeting location unless someone has any prefered spots nearby thats furry friendly. I think Claim Jumper is FF, but their menu can be pricey. The con prints up a list of FF resturants and other joints nearby every year so that will be helpful too.

I would be up for a meet as well, Though going need to interject that if Narei and I are going to come we will need someplace not only fur friendly, but baby friendly as well, as we are going to have our 4 month old daughter with us. She is usually really good, so it shouldnt be too much of a problem, but a real upscale restaurant prolly wouldnt be a good idea.

Well I got my new program up and running. Though since it's still technically a beta release, it'll have a notice that pops up every now and then. But it's not likely to be too big of a problem. I was playing with it for nearly 2 hours and only saw it once, maybe twice. Other than that, all I can say is it'll be sweet to see on the big screen. *is overly excited now*
