Heya, everyone! It's that time of year again -- National Novel Writing Month! Woo! It's the first year that I'm participating, and I'm excited to get going. So I wanted to know: who's participating? And what are you writing? (also, if you wanna give your user-names, I'll buddy you guys ^_~) I'm writing a story called Walter Whittler Walks Across Town that simply has to do with the adventures a guy takes when he walks across town. I got a bit of this idea from the movie Smoke Signals by Sherman Alexie. It'll have a few chaotic drifts when Walter runs into friends, family, a parade, a Mormon Temple, and, well... some other things. The story will be more about conversations, characters and self-discovery in simple situations. So, what are you doing? (btw my username on the NaNoWriMo page is Alexandre: http://www.nanowrimo.org/eng/user/562605)

Your story premise reminds me greatly of Waiting for Godot, by Samuel Beckett of Ireland. where it is a study of self discovery as two individuals are waiting for a man named Godot but never shows up. A few 'chaotic drifts' happen in the play but mostly, its just the back and forth monologues by the two princible characters.
perhaps you should check it out if you haven't already and get a few more ideas for your novel. Good luck with your writting and i hope the dreaded block doesn't find your pen.

http://www.nanowrimo.org/eng/user/590428I decided to participate this year. I'm going to be writing an, as of yet, untitled Fantasy themed story I've had floating around in my head for a long time. Maybe this will finally be the kick in the tail I need to get me writing!

Bah. This whole month is just another excuse to mock us lazy procrastinators. One of these days I'm going to do something about it. One of these days.
That said, I'd eventually like to try this thing out. Much too busy this month, so maybe next year I'll give it a go.

One of my friends told me he was doing this a day before the first of November. He's planning on doing either a fantasy/medieval fiction (in same genre as Lord of the Rings, Eragon, etc.) or a WWII realistic fiction. Knowing him, either would be an interesting read. I, however, won't be participating, namely because I don't think I would get anywhere close to 50k words. Considering that a story that I'm currently writing took me somewhere between 3 and 5 months (perhaps more) to get to the 4,300 words (of sub-par quality) I'm currently at right now, going for 50k in a single month would be suicide. Also... This whole month is just another excuse to mock us lazy procrastinators.
I wish success to anybody who does try this, though.

I am trying to find the time to write for this. I have a few thousand words, but I’m working at a much slower pace than last year.
I hope to catch up this weekend.

...... I have a few thousand words, but ........ I wish I remembered the Director's name, but there was a famous movie Director that started all his productions the same way. He gathered all his princible characters in a conference room for their first script read-through, put all the scripts down on the table, and annouced; "well, all the words are there, (/points to the table) now we just have to get them all in order". You kow its funny, the English alphabet only has 26 letters. But from those 26, amazing works of art have been created for hundreds of years. Good luck to you and all other writters during this contest.

I've been waiting for this thing to start for like two months. It's been going surprisingly well, and isn't as ridiculously hard as it seemed like it would be. I got 5000 words on the first day, and then lost my head start on Wednesday and Thursday because of homework. The community over there is great.

Walter Whittler Walks Across Town
Alliteration is tasty. That is all. The alliteration could be way more pronounced than that. The title could be something like Walter Whittler Walks Walnut Way while Wearing White Wristwatches. For the sake of our collective sanity, it's best if this isn't the case.

I missed school today and wrote 5000 words, bringing me up to 20,000! Also got to the half way point of the story. The Nanowrimo website does not seem to want to load right now, so I figured I'd tell all you people about it.
If anyone is considering starting late, you should totally do it. It's not nearly as hard as it sounds, and even if you don't finish, the deadline is a really great motivator to get some writing done.

Ick for being very far behind. I am beginning to think I won't make it however I refuse to let that stop me from trying. (just broke 10k today). My book is about three characters all of whom are evil for various, and never quite defined, reasons that go on wacky adventures led by the main characters lust for revenge. http://www.nanowrimo.org/eng/user/605489 <-- my page.

I won! I also finished the story at around 45,000 words, so I had to go back and add stuff to get up to 50. Anyone else make it?

Well, I did it. And by that I mean both the black friday 10k, and NaNoWriMo in general. I suppose December will be full of finishing my novel, editing and trying to get it published.

Well, I started on Nov. 5, wrote 9,364 words, they I got busy. My life can be very distracting sometimes. Then, there was MFF and I caught a cold, rare for me...
My total for the month is 22,264 of a story about a blind guy who finds alien technology and tries to find something useful to do with it. It's not specifically furry, I'm still working out how it'd work in furry-dom, a blind man needing a guide dog and all.
As with everything I write, I usually can blast out the rough beginnings and then it takes me a while to fill in the holes. I'll probably finish the work, but it may take me a few months with all the other things that are going on.
