If you're referring to the dances at conventions, they're not truly raves. They're just dances at a furry convention with a rave-like atmosphere.
Trust me, coming from someone who went to raves when they were popular, they're nothing like 'furry dance parties'.

Well, umm, i would go along with what the others said about it NOT being like a real rave, having at least seen some videos of them.
However, i think they vary depending on the convention/event/dj too much to really say, but if you like lighter dancing, not the real hard rave stuff, then yeah, i think it is a safe, fun eviroment to dance in.. however you want to dance. Hey, i had never really danced in public before FurFright '08, and now it's not a big deal for me, so that MUST be a good thing.
So, final verdict - they are fairly fun, as a rule, but it will vary. I know, a cop-out of an anser - hey, seach for videos on YouTube, that should give you a good enough idea.

I know what you all are talking about <.< real raves are sorta like going to a concert ond being on the floor O.o One Huge mash pits, Two Intence bass, Three tones of pot smoke and alcohol. Furry con dances are less intence on there bass its a hotel after all and not everyone is there for the con. 2 the cons are really not ment for raves they play the music but a few that i been to were reminding me of a highschool dance -.-. In other words, noone really prepares for it by grabing killer fogmachines lazers etc. no real profesional djs. and of course to be more friendly to all crowds there isn't the pot somke and alcohol. <.< now if we only could add one and two and leave out three then we have a rave for furs. And never say this won't happen anytime soon it just may XD... (i know something you don't know )

The closest to a real rave I've seen at a con would be the dances at Anthrocon in the huge ballroom with lazers, lights, fog and a LOUD sound system with the music echoing off the walls. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UcPHTqrHFqY

I am a raver and I will hardly go to a party that ISN'T practicing PLURR or trading kandi and even though I would be tearing up the dance floor I wouldn't stick around too long if someone started whining in any way shape form or fashion.

The echoes in my head, the voices what had they said, whispers in my ear, turn around there's no one here.. listen close to every heart and hear that breaking sound, hopes and dreams are shattering apart and crashing to the ground...
