A producer from Uruguay who uploaded a short film to YouTube in November 2009 has been offered a $30m (£18.6m) contract to make a Hollywood film.

The movie will be sponsored by director Sam Raimi, whose credits include the Spiderman and Evil Dead films.

Fede Alvarez's short film "Ataque de Panico!" (Panic Attack!) featured giant robots invading and destroying Montevideo, the capital of Uruguay.

It is 4 mins 48 seconds long and was made on a budget of $300 (£186).

So far it has had more than 1.5 million views on YouTube.

"I uploaded (Panic Attack!) on a Thursday and on Monday my inbox was totally full of e-mails from Hollywood studios," he told the BBC's Latin American service BBC Mundo.

"It was amazing, we were all shocked."

The movie Mr Alvarez has been asked to produce is a sci-fi film to be shot in Uruguay and Argentina. He says he intends to start from scratch and develop a new story for the project.

"If some director from some country can achieve this just uploading a video to YouTube, it obviously means that anyone could do it," he added.

hey Kobuk, I know you're an admin and can probably flame me for asking this, but; What does this have to do with the tea in China? Wouldn't this fit more appropriately in a non-furry section instead of a sub-folder in the Furry Arts Discussion?

I mean, yeah, its cool youtube just gave this guy in Uruguay his Warholian moment and after I get home I'm going to check it out (Youtube is blocked at work) but still; it is of my own personal opinion that this should be elsewhere.

The Photography and Video forum was actually created both to give furs a place to post their photos and videos, and to collect the frequent discussions about Youtube videos that get old fast when posted elsewhere. Wink

Arbutus is correct. The Photo and Vid forum was created long ago because the General Non-Furry Discussion forum was getting flooded with photo and vid topics. Photography and video can be considered a form of artistry, hence why it has been put in the "Furry Arts Discussion" section.

Anyway..........we're getting off topic about rules and subject placement. So if anyone else has comments about the video, then please share your thoughts. Wink

O_o
Whoa... I wish I knew how to properly integrate my 3D stuff into video clips and do that type of SFX... That would be awesome to have the skills to do stuff like that...
(And to have a computer capable of handling that sort of stuff too)
Rendering a single frame of that would take ages! D:

I must have missed this topic here. xx I saw this middle of January anyway while at school/work (I do Production work!). EXCELLENT short film. We really loved it. I look forward to whatever he produces. It definitely serves as inspiration to all of us who make video productions. My friend is learning After Effects now (I haven't started messing with it yet even though I own it). We are approaching our Film Challenge date soon and are producing a short film - the challenge is though we have 3 days and the genre is chosen for us at that point and we have to include a certain key phrase in there implemented in. It goes on every year here but this is the first year we have entered. We are hoping for Horror or Action genre. We are pretty confident we can pull those off with something fresh.

When it IS finished btw.. I'll upload it to YouTube and let everyone watch.
