Title: Random Poetry Posts
Post by: Rocket T. Coyote on April 05, 2011, 05:13:23 pm
Rather than individual threads with one post in each, a single thread for random spur-of-the-moment musings.
I'll begin:

I launched a rocket into the air
It shattered to pieces
I've crafted a spare.

To put this in the words of Edwin S. Porter...

I won my fame through wider claim along Lackawanna's splendid name.
For keeping bright and snowy white along the road of anthracite.

Child where did you go last night?
To a place of warmth and light,
of gentleness and love,
where the lamb, the lion did not bite.

Do not cry, you will die.
As you weep, the enemy creeps.
Make it stop, come out on top.
Now warned, you can win the war.

I fight to flee, to be free,
and yet there I see,
as I fight to return and to see
the other me...

What has caused you to ignite?

Beyond the farthest place,
It seems so commonplace,
But you feel out in space,
Away from a familiar face.

To sail upon the Rhine,
It's you I wish to dine.
If I only had  more time,
perhaps you might be mine.

Second thoughts arise
So quickly
That to act upon them now
Would ensure success.
But would it make happiness?

On my steed I rode,
through the forest to find my rose.
My sword was sharp my eyes were not,
the quest all but forgot.

I can't be afraid of the tasks ahead
And no matter the path I take
I'll arrive at my final destination.

Here's one of my own creations:

It's 1945.
So it's VE Day, a time for everybody to shout, "Hooray!".
Mr. Hitler's dead so the Nazi war machine has gone to bed.
As the vicar will tell, Sir Churchill will go to heaven while Mr. Hitler goes to hell.

I hope no offence has been intended.

Have you ever woken from a dream
Longing to watch it again?
Would you enjoy it forever
Or would it suddenly end?

Here's another of my creations:

Foxes.
So what if they cannibalise oxes?
So what if they're hated by farmers?
So what if they scare llamas?
If they should be cared for by God, let's all give a nod.

At night,
City lights
Hide the stars.
The moon remains
And illuminates my soul.

---------------

I have a prisoner.
I lock him away so people don't get hurt.
I lock him away so he doesn't get hurt.
I am my prisoner.

Watch the silent train
Go past the field of view
Don't look in disdain
But calmly walk the other way.

Feel the breeze go by
And don't look past tomorrow
Stand, stand boldly
And calmly walk the other way.

heres a poem i wrote a couple months ago, so maybe its time to reverse the season >.>

A wisping willow
A late night breeze
The chill of dawn
And the early humming of honey bees
Summer is on its way

A bright moon shining
Clouds full of joy, flowing gently along
Thousands of little stars all whining
So when i finally hear this mystical song
I know summer is on its way

A beautiful fire burning calm with heat
Although the anxiousness is swarming the air
The trees all listening, waiting, counting every beat
The tension I can hardly bare
Summer is on its way

the wind outside batters against my window
making sounds which a younger me may have knowingly wrongly perceived as a god

wolfcoon cuddles
squirrel criticisms as well as confirmations of his quality of character
a tiger came back

there is a family who come through the store
they all look very similar to one another
if you have ever sat next to a fat person
you know that smell
and that is what they smell like

woken by a knock at the door
someone else answered it
a rather fetching black number awaited me when i arose
i was drifted to new experiences

i'm not really a poet, but i'm interested in the poets from the new york school in the 40s and 50s. i saw this thread and thought i could try and write something myself. i kind of like the look of words when they don't have any punctuation, and when they're all in lower-case

All there is - is to try
but it is nothing
if you don't.

Being alive is given
Feeling alive takes work
Throw away your misgivings
And discover life's perks

Multicolored fire
Combines into a dream.
A single strand
Can change the world.

This is your time now.

An Argentine gaucho named Bruno
Said there's just one thing that I do know

Women are fine
And sheep are divine
But llamas are numero uno

And here's something by W. H. Auden:

This is the night mail crossing the border.
Bringing the cheque and the postal order.
Letters for the rich.
Letters for the poor.
Letters for the shop and the girl next door.
Pulling up Beattock with a steady climb.
The gradient's against her but she's on time.

Moose stand their ground
While elk prance around
And whitetail are gone in a bound.

A jute box sells bananas
To take his girlfriend to the Bahamas
But no one takes the fruit
But gives the jute box a dirt boot

(what?)

Timid creatures slinking low
Across the forest floor they go
Summoned by a gentle note
Come the ferrets, come the stoats

Come the skunks and come the cats
Come the mice and come the rats
Something's stirring we can't see
Something's stirring in the trees.

-just a few verses to work on rhyme. normally I write free verse.

everything is lost
only to be found by the next generation
when they find the ruins
they expect to see greatness
only to find out that it's not true
when the civilization fell
they were wrong to believe in nothing
now that the new generation has their technology
they will advance where the fallen have failed
in the creation of advanced thought
only the stars aren't the limit any more

This thread should not die, but this all I can come up with.

I seemed to have lost my cocks,
I seached all the docks.
I stayed awake all night,
all by the sound of some big fight.
