Generally speaking, a fursuiter is someone who acts, performs, or creates a non-promotional (i.e; pro mascots) animal/reptile/etc charecter. Now, this is always open to discussion, as some of us do use our 'suits for fundraising, or hired to promote someones event. Thats just my $0.02.

I think the definition of "fursuit" is pretty broad and can easily accomodate everything from only tails and ears to face painting to full bodied character/mascot-style suits.  '<img'>
When I started, folks referred to the full bodied suits as either character costumes (like the ones I wore at Disneyland) or mascots (like the ones seen at sporting events or promoting products).  I really don't know when the term "fursuit" arrived, though it seems to have come sometime after the first ConFurence.  My memory seems to recall they were still simply called costumes at that con.
By the way, if you are equine in fursona, rather than gloves, try formulating a hoof.

There are some good hoof ideas via Hooves and Joey Leaf Runners yahoo clubs. Ive always just been ok with ears and tail tho a full fursuit would be cool. Only way Ill get one is custom order tho, not many in my size.
