Well you could check with your local police and find out what ordinances in your city or town are. The first reaction will be some one will assume your a promotional Charecter for an advertising campain. ''

I know some cities have rules against wearing masks.
Furs at the Rocket City Fur Meet were talking about that because apparently it was a big problem at Furry Weekend Atlanta because Atlanta has very strict no masks in public laws.
Other than that I don't know.
Most areas I doubt it would be a problem.
You could probably check with your local law enforcement first to find out how they would preffer you go about it if you want to do your fur-suiting on the street.
Check ahead first and you should have no problem.
Just show up and who knows what could happen?
That's what I've always been told, anyway.
I've not yet worn my full suit in public, mainly 'cause it's not the best suit, and since there aren't many furries around here I'd rather not leave a less than ideal first impression of fur-suiting in the mind of the public.
Ears and tail I'll wear, and I'll wear my suit at cons and around the house, but until I get a better suit public fur-suiting is sorta on hold.

In a post 9/11 era, police and private security personnel do tend to be concerned.   ':p'  As others have stated, you may wish to do a quick check for local laws.

For certain, there are rules about private property.  For example, hotels, shopping centers, amusement parks, etc may not allow you to appear.  This is usually due to the owner's fear that you will be mistaken for an employee of the property and thus create a liability issue.  (You accidentally bump a person and they sue the place.)  It is the same reason you cannot use a camera in most privately owned places now.

In the past, I generally have just appeared where it seems fun and if someone has an issue, I leave.  Of course if there is a costume event you can really go to town.  The Los Angeles zoo has a costume day, and I've done that before in suit and had great fun.  '<img'>

I'm just a little curious, but where exactly do you plan on wearing a fursuit? Shopping mall? Parade? Charity event? Etc., etc., etc.  One you know where you want to wear a fursuit at and what you'll want to do while you're in the suit, you then should contact the people in charge of where you'll be going in suit and get their permission first to perform at that event/area. The best (well, sorta even though it's not updated regularly) available resource on fursuits and fursuiting is http://fursuit.org/faq/  Be sure to check out Sections 30.0 (Performance) and Section 33.0 (Legal Matters). Hope this helps.

I highly doubt it would be illegal, as it's not indecent exposure or anything.  I can't say for sure, though, as I don't know what the UK laws are.

I've heard some horror stories from friends about this, but they've really only involved shopping malls.  Security mob shows up, demand they remove their masks/heads, one refuses, gets booted out, blah blah blah.
Umm, and I wouldn't try 'suiting near any kind of government/military facility either.  Those boys are mighty flighty lately.  ;K)

I dont think it would be illegal. I mean... you do occasionally get those people dressed up as movie characters and stuff.
You would probably get a few people looking at you funny though o.o'

Hm.  That's a new one.  It wouldn't surprise me to find that in the local ordinances, but furries aren't exactly widespread enough that all fifty states would have an ordinance against that (I've heard stories from other fursuiters about how fun it is to get pulled over for speeding in a fursuit).

I think most concern would involve the head sufficing as a mask.  I doubt there are any laws that will specify "fursuit," but there may be something that a fursuit could act as instead.
