Found a "Tony The Tiger" costume $500
« on: June 19, 2004, 07:16:25 pm »
Heyoo

I just paid a visit to a place called "Value Village" looking for old dime store detective novels when I ran smack-bang into an adult sized "Tony the Tiger" costume.

Value Village, if you are not familiar with it, is the same kind of place as "Goodwill" or "The Salvation Army" were people can buy second hand goods.  (I found an old Commodore 64 in there with an intact power supply, I laughed my butt off and bought it for ten bucks.)

Any old who, the costume comes with a head and a little battery operated fan to suck the heat out.  It looks pretty intanct.  I don't think I want to buy it for myself, though, tigers are my favorite but Tony the Tiger is kinda cartoony for me.  And he's just not sexy (That's important to me.)

Tony may not be sexy but he might be worth a few bucks to a collector.

$500 bucks, eh? Sounds nice but I would never buy a second hand fursuit from any type of place like that. Simply because I wouldn't know where it's been, who wore it, and what it was used for. I'm not saying that it was used for anything deviant, but who knows how many times it may have been repaired or how many kids spilled something on the suit when they went to hug the character or who knows what else.

I'd rather buy a suit from a costume place or have one comissioned. Right now, I'm currently in negotiations with Chaz-wolf to comission a fursuit.  '<img'>

You could porbably buy it, clean it up a bit, and then turn around and sell it for a little profit.  '<img'>

Having performed as Tony, I can say it is a pretty nice costume.   '<img'> However, it DOES require two people to get dressed into.  ':p'

My bigger concern would be if it is a REAL Tony suit.  I see lots of used character suits that are actually knock-offs.  I can't state how many Barneys and Scooby Doos that are NOT official suits.  This is important because authorized suits are usually built well and can sustain wear and tear - after all, they were meant to be used for a lo-o-o-o-o-ng time.  (Most companies are rather cheap about replacing suits.)

Also, for $500, you can get some nice NEW suits from places like Marylens and such.  If you're going for a general suit, as opposed to one designed by you, might as well buy a new one.  Once you get the suit, some loving care and accessories can make the suit your own.
