Articulated jaw furring

On my fursuit, the jaw is completely separate from the rest of the head. I have no idea how to fur it. All the ways I have tried so far give it a puppet-look; I'm trying to make it look as realistic as possible.

Any ideas?

If you don't have continuous fur from the jaw to the rest of the head,  it's going to be extremely difficult to make it not look like a puppet.  Even if the bridge is something that isn't load bearing or rigid, like felt,  you'll need a way to connect it to the rest of the head.  It'll be especially difficult once you shave the fur on the jaw so that it isn't so long.

That brings up the fact that I don't know how to connect it and still have the same amount of movement

Are you using a super-short fur or something?  Can you show pics?  I've always made my jaws a completely separate piece, and never had it look particularly bad.

What most makers do is just leave some extra fabric at the jaw, so when you're taping it up to get the pattern, do it with the mouth open.
