Tail spines
« on: May 08, 2014, 09:00:59 am »
Does anyone know of any resources or tutorials for making a tail spine from foam,  wood,  or wire?

Has anyone ever tried to make one?

I've never tried to make one but I have thought about how one would be made. Based on your materials mentioned I would think you could make one by shaping the foam(or another suitable material) into spinal segments and slide them onto the wire. That's if your going for a realistically bendable tail though. Also depending on the size/length of tail your looking to make, this method/idea may or my not be viable.

I'll keep an eye out for any tutorials and resources.

One could cut insulation made for refrigeration tubing into segments. It's
available in several sizes and is relatively firm and flexible.  It's about
1" thick. So one for 1" tubing would be about 3" in diameter.

One could cut notches in both sides and it might work pretty well
without an internal support.

Probably would have to go to  a refrigeration supply house to
buy it.  The stuff they sell for water lines isn't firm enough.
