I am a new tail maker for free!
« on: May 28, 2014, 10:10:59 pm »
I am deciding to make tails for free, well sort of. You pay shipping and that's it. Send me the materials after discussing it with me through pm's and you will ship me all the materials and I will create your dreams. Be sure to send the right colors of faux fur. I don't have a P.O box yet, but when I do get one, that is when I will start making them. I will alert you all when I start a p.o box. Hurry up, because when I get good I will start to charge when I get to a professional level. I already have one customer waiting for me to get a p.o box, this is first come, first served. I will only allow myself to have two projects at a time, so sorry if I make you wait, I don't want an overload of work. I get the p.o box in a few weeks, they're expensive. Tell me if ur willing to let me charge extra to help me pay my parents for the p.o box. Only if you are willing, it is more of a tip to a waiter style thing. First one to respond is in my queue and I will get to the rest of you over time. I will alert you all when I start to charge as a mandatory thing.

Before you go and start off on "any" sort of fursuit making business, whether it's tails or anything else, suggest you read here:

1.  Are you doing this as a hobby to pick up a little extra income, or a full time business? Though the line between the two can often be blurred.
2.  What skills and experience do you have? Sewing, Crafts, Business and Money Planning, etc.
3.  What skills don't you have? And can you find ways to acquire/improve those skills?
4.  Know the materials you work with and the Pros/Cons of them.
5.  Study the fandom and look for what people are asking for. Look for trends.
6.  Be creative and unique. Develop your own style, but DON'T copy!
7.  Do you have the time and dedication for this? Can you handle a job, school, college, family, kids, etc. along with making suits?
8.  How will you deal with customers? Do you have the "people/communication" skills in dealing with rude customers, last minute alterations, etc.?
9.  What space do you have at home? Basement, Spare bedroom, etc.
10.  What supplies do you have and don't you have. Make a list of what you'll need.
11.  How much will you charge for suits? Base your prices on your skills, experience, material costs, and how long it takes you to make the suit.
12.  Will you need to report your earnings for tax purposes? (See one of my links above for further info.)
13.  Start small building and selling tails, ear sets, handpaws, etc. to gain skills and experience before trying to tackle bigger complex projects.
14.  How will you get the word out about your business? Website, LJ, Business cards, etc.
15.  Have a website? Does it have a photo gallery of your work, Terms of service, Payment plans, Shipping information, etc.
16.  Develop a schedule/timetable and stick to it!
17.  How long do you foresee yourself making suits: Months or years?

Thx, this helped me a lot, now I at least know I can only make under 40k a year so I don't have to pay taxes, so when I get really good, I won't charge too much anyways. I have no plans of making so much money anyways, what is a 14 year old going to do with all of that? But, thanks anyways, I like that you gave me a heads up.

I also have dimensions and designs for straight long tails, and swooping long tails, idk how to do short tails like rabbit tails and such. If you are a maker or want to be one, I will send you an hd image with all dimensions and complicated math (already done) for how to make these and ear hats. If you do use my design FOR PROFIT, NOT FOR YOURSELF, I ask that you would please pay me a royalty fee of $3-$5 for every time you sell a product with my design and also state it is my design. And for anybody that uses it for themselves, just say it is my design and you got it from me specially. I will pm you the dimensions for either of these reasons, just please be sure to be honest with me.

I have a first customer, when I get a p.o box, you will be priority, hurry and get yourself in a queue. Only one customer left until my queue is full until I get a p.o box and start making them for you guys.
