Some kind of non-bumping message option?
« on: April 22, 2009, 09:40:40 am »
Recently, i've noticed that sometimes, i want to post in a topic (for example something in the word games section), but i don't want to bump it, do you guys think it's possible (and useful) to implement some system where you can contribute to a thread without pushing it in the muzzle of others, because i kinda feel bad about putting all those word games into the 'active topics' section. Maybe it could be like the chans' 'Sage' option, where you reply, but the topic is not bumped? (for example with some little box in the corner that says something like 'bump' which you need to uncheck?) If this is somehow possible already I apologize for wasting a post on this subject.
Sometimes I wonder how easily I am influenced by those around me. The need to fit in somewhere always tugs at me from the back of my mind, even though I should be doing my own thing.

If the topic is older than 6 months then you just start a new one.

The whole point of the topic being put to the top is so others can see which topics have the latest posts in them. Having an option to change that seems a waste of time since people might not see it = /

Hmm. I don't think it'd be possible to implement a setting like that on Furtopia, but I don't know for sure. *waits for an admin to chime in*

In the meantime, though... to be honest, it is rather annoying to log on and see all the Active Topics completely buried under a heap of word games. Might be fun for the word gamers, but it's annoying to everyone else. I thank you for having the consideration to recognize that, Kinshi.

Perhaps a good solution would be for folks to not go through and post in every single word games thread in a row. x_x

Kinshi, I don't think I've seen a system like that on SMF before? I'm not sure Furtopia could do it? The only thing I can offer for advice is Rule #15 mentioned here:

I don't use the view active topics option, so I don't have the flood of word game threads issue, but I do know a lot of people on here do and get annoyed by that. So for that reason, I'll throw in my voice of support for a way of keeping those posts from showing at least in the new posts viewing. I don't know if that's possible, but here's another paw raised in case an admin that does know if it can be done reads this.

I'm not sure I can.  But I will give it an attempt to block Word Games from showing up in the recent posts.

A little late here, but I think that's the real problem--keeping word games out of the Active Topics section.  Maybe roleplay and similar forums could get the same treatment, since interested parties will go seek out their threads anyway.  $0.02

Thanks WS and everybody who keeps this place running smoothly!
