the most comfortable way for a furry to wear a hat/helmet would most likely be with the ears folded back along the side of the head.

most art work iv seen with head wear the hats usually have holes cut in them (tho if it were a helmet that would distort the purpose of a helmet)

Every dog, cat or horse I've ever been around has the natural ability to fold both ears back and close to the head. So I chose folded back. Hwever I think in an anthro would the hat would have holes for the ears. Would make it easier to hear.  :)

I would say folded down or back. A baseball cap isn't very big, and
there probably wouldn't be room enough to cut holes depending on
where the ears were located. The cap might need to be modified either
way.

We rabbits have very long ears so working them through holes would
be a bit of a hassle. If one wore a helmet with holes one might loose his/her
ears. Depending on the impact it could shear them off.  :o

not sure if rabbits ears can fold but if they cant then i guess they could wear taller helmets (like those British police helmets) and if those dont have enough space, they can add 2 top parts that extend from the helmet to add that extra space.

Perhaps a lop eared type bunny could have them folded back.

Being a fantasy type rabbit I can probably bend them however I wish. Many cartoons show
them folded back or even tied together like Lola Bunny does. Personally I don't think that
would be very comfy.  (:

Now that there's a good question, one i've actually been stumped on as well.

Really does depend on the animal, but i'd think in most cases the ears would be folded down in some way.  A better idea might be to design headgear that actually meant to fit on a different head shape.  I mean seriously now, you can just expect a hat that fits on a human to fit just as well on an animal.  For something with a long snout, a circular brimmed hat just isn't as practical as it would be worn on person with a round head.

My advice, make some sorta new anthrohat, made just for whatever animal it is you're lookin to slap a hat on.  ;)
