Since allowing my Con plans to get totally wiped out this year I have decided to make a plan for insuring I get to a Con or 2 next year.

Of course, I will be attending Morphicon next year.  It is driving me crazy that I didn't make it this year and have yet to meet (in RL) many of the furiends I have discovered this past year.  I am thinking hard about AC, because it is so big and increases the chances of meeting some of the other furs from Furtopia.

Yesterday I visited the Feral website.  Being that I LOVE the outdoors this looks like one I would really have a great time at.

Which leads to my big question.  Has anyfur been there and how did you like it?

My mate was a guest at the first Feral.  ''

She had a GREAT time!  Even though that was several years ago, she still talks of it.  It sounds great.  Wish we could go together one year.  Am sure you'll have a good time.

I used to help organise the event, so I may be a bit biased...

It's pretty fun. You get out of it what you put into it, of course. Some people attended in order to enjoy the workshops, and others were there simply to do some outdoorsy type stuff. It's not a con that appeals to everyfur, since it seems like most demand the standard creature comforts that come along with hotel conventions... but Feral! is a fun adventure unto itself.

And yeah, Cataroo was there during Feral!'s first year... 1998. She did some workshops for the event... as did I. Arowhon's a gorgeous venue, but it's difficult to book it each year and it seems they can only get it every once in a while. They'll be looking into finding a different venue once again for next year. I'm sure she had raved a fair bit about the beautiful site and the fabulous cooking that they had done there. '<img'>

I hear that Feral! went very well last year. It's had it's ups and downs, but mostly ups. Most furs enjoy it greatly. If you enjoy the outdoors and would like to meet some fellow furs amongst those great outdoors, then Feral! could be a very fun event for you. It's a very unique event still, despite some furry camping events cropping up across the continent. Feral! still retains the summer camp atmosphere, which is mostly unheard of elsewhere in the fandom.

I'm not really sure what else to say about it. I haven't been for a few years, so my data's a bit dated. '<img'>

Thanks for the info.  I also read some more of the Con Reports from the scrapbook.  Arowhon looks like a wonderful place although I won't be able to make it to Feral! till next year.

Benjamin, having worked on the staff, can you tell me the other places they have held Feral!?  Also, how soon after this years gathering will they pick a site for next year?  Well that probably doesn't matter to much, I really want to go.

Heh, the food good or bad doesn't bother me.  After my time in the Marines I have learned that I can make just about anything taste better with a little work.

OK, they are ready for registrations.  They have a new website up with lots of info.  The costs aren't shown on any front end screen. (kinda weird) but you CAN register now and pay when you can.  When you finish the registration process you will know your costs.  It is an 'all inclusive' arrangement although you could have some additional costs for project supplies or 'extra food/drink.'  All meals and cabins  are provided under the registration fee.

So if you are an 'outdoors fur' this one is right up your alley!

Visit the site and see for yourself Feral!

Edit: Basic Cost is $250 Canadian which is just over $200 US, if paid before Jan 31st.  After that I think it goes up about $25.  Hope to see you there!

Hey I mapped out the trip from Lorain, OH to Algonquin Park, Ontario.  It takes 7.5 hours going through Buffalo and 11 hours if I go through Detroit.  Not too big a difference, so if anyfur is pondering going but needs a ride give up a howl and we'll see what we can work out.

If you are south of me you could always drop your car at my place (its safe, lots of cops live in my neighborhood) or I could ride with you.

I've been wanting to go since I saw the website but I don't know if I'll be going or not.  I've still not talked to anyone about it yet.  >.<  (Yes, I am very lazy.)  If I do go I'll likely need a ride though.  I'm in Hamilton, in the East Mountain area.  *Thinks.*  That would be on the way from Buffalo, right?

I'd be close enough to pick you up going either way.  Definitely need to chat with your folks about going and would prefer they talk to me too at some point.  If they aren't cool with you getting a ride from me you can catch the Feral! bus from Toronto also its only an hour away and they could drop you off.

I mentioned it to my parents and they don't seem enthusiastic but they're not going to freak out either.  I've got the money as well so all I'd need to do to go is book a place.  I'll see about making arangements after the house is in some sort of order.  I might be able to persuade my sis to come too, maybe.

You DO NOT need the money by January.  You just get a reduced rate if you pay by then.  After January the price goes up $25.  It would be cool to have other Furtopians there.

Still a goal for next year, though '<img'> (sucks not having a car...or money)

I've got an aplication in for a part time job and if I can get it I'm gonna be signing up immediately.  I'm not keen on spending my savings without money coming in.  Anyhow I'm likely going to be at Feral.

It's gonna be great!   '<img'>

T Fox,
Sorry to jump in here, but I was wondering if you still have a Scots accent, and if so, what kind?  Borders, Lowland, Glaswegian, Edinburgh, or Highland?
I ask for a reason.  I have been responsible for hosting the Feral poetry corner every year so far since 2002, and am likely repeating for '05.  It has been on my wish-list for a few years now to find someone with an authentic Highland Brogue, who is also good at poetry recitation.  The reason is that I would like to include some Robbie Burns in the poetry corner.  And I don't want it done in some fake, Mike Myers-esque accent, like Fat Bastard/Shrek does Robbie Burns.  UGH.
Last year, we were fortunate enough to have one of the Arowhon staffers there from Australia for the summer able to read some Banjo Patterson.
So, do you fit this bill?  '<img'>

I've only been in Canada less than a year so no, I've not lost my accent yet.   '<img'>   I'm not sure if I'd fit the bill though.  I have a thick Glaswegian accent and I've been told I actualy sound German.   I'm too shy to be any good at public speaking either.  I could try if you want but I can't guarantee that I wont have a panic attack and go hide in a corner.  Sorry for not being much help.   '<img'>

I'd love to hear a Rabbie Burns recital though.  What are you thinking of including?

I had thought of several of his more well-known ones, but haven't yet decided.  Perhaps I should ask you for suggestions, as a true Scotsman? :P

Kewlies, I'm liking the sound of that board you are talking about Wotan! I love poetry (can't recite it and I'm not Scottish even though I am SCOTT '<img'> ) and have written a few poems before. I can't wait to sit down and listen to some of that! It's all probably soooo much better than what I could write. '<img'>

Anyways, I'm hoping that I can get a job and save the money for this con and be able to go. It'd be nice to go to FWA, MFM, AC, Feral, and Morphicon all in one year *beams*
