Midwest Furfest 2014. New Dates December 5-7

Midwest Furfest has changed the con dates to December 5-7. Full info can be found on their site http://www.furfest.org/

It's been said that rats can gain access to your home by climbing up threw your toilet. I prefer to use the front door.

People are making a HUGE deal out of this, explaining that it's around Christmas time and they won't be able to make it. Not sure I understand?

It IS a huge deal, Shim. A lot of people may not be able to go due to work issues. IMO, November and December are really bad times to have a con. Those two months are the busiest times for retailers when they need a lot of workers for the Xmas shopping season. Also, IMO, it's a bad time to be spending money at a con when you know you already have to spend money shopping for gifts for family and friends.

I think in this case, it's a wash. It's only been pushed back two weeks, so it was already in that unfriendly time period for retail to begin with. And for those saving up for holiday expenses, did the two extra weeks they've had before really make that much difference?

Oh well. Only way we'll really know if it hurt more people than it helped will be to wait for registration/attendance numbers next year. I'm guessing it'll continue the steady growth it's been having, though. The people who can't make it this year because of the timing will effectively be replaced by people who previously couldn't make it before because the old weekend was bad for them.

Both Nov and Dec are ruff for me. Most of the people I work with are friends. They're also deer hunters. I wont schedule time off to interfere with what they enjoy. I was able to go to F3 because a friend didn't know if his group was chosen for a special hunt. One the state does by lottery. It wasn't till after I had already gotten the days off that he knew they were going. He went anyway. Leaving our department really undermanned.  :) I would love to be able to drive up to this con. I might just be inspired by my work partners action! I think I can call in a few days from Chicago.

Where I work, they've actually negotiated to make the first day of hunting season a corporate holiday (they just make it our 'observed' day for Veteran's day). It worked out really well for MFF 2012, because that three-day weekend ended up being the same weekend as the con. It was probably one of the deciding factors in me giving in and going.

But you're more brave than I if you're willing to try the whole 'calling in to work' thing during a con. I make it very clear that when I'm on vacation, I'm on vacation and will not even be checking my work email until I get back.

I'll be calling in 'sick'. Letting them know that I need that day off.  :)

The place I work at is in a small town. They give a lot of people time off for dear hunting. Great for them. Some ruff 12+ hour days for the rest of us. Nothing like being at work for 14+ hours to come in the next day and do it all over again.

I'm going to aim for it.  My only concern is whether.  but hey, if it's in December then maybe we can get something more out of it.

Besides maybe people should actually plan ahead with xmas (I work in retail.  The amount of people who complain cause we ran out of stock is ironically funny.  You'd think they'd learn).

There is also the fact that if you book time of now you should be fine.  For the majority not all organisations are that bad that they won't give you the time off (except for post offices).

It's not like they waited till last minute, they have literally told people to the earliest convenience.

I really want to go to this! I've never been to a furcon, so I figured my first should be at the nation's second largest one! Just casting some lines, but even though I could go by myself no problem, it would be much easier and cheaper if I could find three or four people to share a room with, (roll away beds are an extra $10).

havent been to one either but i will and i will find a way to get to one. just need to find some furries who live near my area we'll band together travel together. i mean the more furries in one group will increase the chance of us all being able to get to a convention the closest to us.
I will see you all soon

The only problem I have for the date change is that I need to take an extra day off.  Since I work swing shifts the original date was when I was on days the new dates are when I am  working nights so I need an extra day so that I won't be getting off at 6 AM on Thursday.  Oh well I get 80 hours of vacation each year so I can afford the extra time.  The hard part is that I will need a sitter this year as well as a kennel for the dogs.  My son is due in August
Age is a state of mind. Which state am I in again.

In that case, should we talk Furtopia meet? I imagine the same as usual; meet up, order Gino's East..Where and when though. Anybody have any preference?

It'll probably be easiest to plan once the schedule for the year is released. Which will hopefully be soon.
I feel like last year's worked pretty well, though, with taking the food back to the room to eat. It's just easier to manage that way than trying to find a place elsewhere to sit and eat as a group.
