The effects of war that we often don’t think about

This is a story I saw on TV roughly an hour ago, about the starving zoo animals in Tripoli, Libya.

I'm really not sure what else to say… it's just sad.

War is never a pretty sight, its a very nasty place. In its wake Lives and countries are broken. It leaves behind a desalent waste land of death and suffering.

But this evil is necesary in order to establish peace. I hate death and I hate destruction. Its never made sense to me why we must cause each other pain. But there are thangs far worse out there then death. Thats why country must defend them selves from those who threaten there liberties.

I believe it is brave of a man to condem another man to death. But braver so, to live where life is worse then death.

What you see there is collateral damage from mans thurst for war.

Libya is still a hot zone, with the rebels and loyalists fighting for control, the rebels capturing a major compound not too long ago. So, you might as well be trying to fly a relief crew into the Afghanistan mountains.

Libya is a warzone, send aid means to risk life and limb. A nunch of animals are not worth that risk, especialy while the people are need of aid and assistance in their fight for freedom.

Yeah it does seem rather a matter of "okay, but who do we send to help the people we sent to help?"

War isn't hell. War is war and Hell is Hell, and of the two war is a lot worse.

That was heartbreaking.  I know there are all kinds of practical reasons, but I just kept thinking while watching it, "WHY DOESN'T THAT REPORTER STOP TALKING AND FEED THOSE ANIMALS."  Erg.

My second-grade teacher told my class a similar story about the elephants in the London zoo during one of the world wars.  There were bombs falling all over the place, and people were worried about what would happen if a bomb fell on the zoo, simultaneously freeing the animals and terrifying them.  In order to avoid the possibility of that happening and scared elephants trampling people, the zookeepers slowly starved the elephants.  Another heartbreaking story.  It's stayed with me all these years.
