"If I am, I would take care of myself so to speak...wouldn't want my blood on your paws or anyone else's." she answered. She took a more desperate tone as she looked at Wise again "If I don't make it...please take care of my little Leilani..." coughing a little as she finished.

Wise was a little shocked to hear she would want a stranger to take care of her child, but didn't let it show on his face. "Why would you trust me with your daughter?"

Leilani's mother simply sighed, hearing the sounds of the chaos around outside. she looked at Wise again "What's the alternative? Leave her out to her own devices in this world? If things get worse, I don't know how long she'd last alone."

Wise sighed as well. "I suppose you're right. But that's only if you don't make it. We don't know anything yet."

She slowly stood up "Right...however there is now the matter of what to do next." she took another look at her dead husband "If there's more people like...that. I don't know how long we can hang around here." she released the pistol's clip and gave it a glance before reloading it.

"I think we should stay here and wait it out. It's too chaotic out there and everyone and their mother is trying to get out of here," Wise said with a shrug. "We can hold this place long as you're helping."

"Yeah...maybe we can bolt down for now. Name's Sierra by the way." she answered, seeming a bit tired. "Now let's see what we can do."

"Wise," he said with a nod as he began to walk downstairs. "Can you make it down the stairs? Your legs don't look too good."

Sierra seemed to stumble a little bit as she started down the stairs, clinging tight to the railing handgun in her free hand. "Yeah, I just gotta...take my time is all." slowly following Wise down "I assume you've already met my daughter, Leilani."

"Yeah. She had a gun in her hand. Too dangerous for a little girl to have one like that so it's in my back pocket," Wise said walking downstairs. He then realized the news of telling Leilani about her father. Wise sat down knowing it was best to leave it to Sierra.

"She's only shot the things a few times, she knows it ain't a toy but she's ain't a great shot." Sierra answered. she pulled a pair of jeans out of a laundry basket and slipped them on to cover the scratches. "Don't want her to see what happened to me up there...be bad enough to tell he daddy's dead. If you wanna bolt this place down, there's some wood, metal, and tools in my husband's workshop in the basement."

"Alright. Gotcha," Wise said immediately going down into the basement and began his search for the things he would need.

Wise did find an array of tools on the workbench from duct tape and a hammer and nails to a power drill and many different lengths on nails. There was also as Sierra said a stock of wooden planks and boards to sheet metal.

Upstairs all that was really heard was a soft weep, from Leilani hearing about what happened to her dad.

Wise quickly brought up a couple boards of wood, along with the hammer and some nails. "I need some help putting these over the windows. How many windows do you have on this floor?"

Sierra got up and pointed him towards the living room. "There's three in the living room, two in the kitchen...seven if memory serves."

Wise sighed. "That's a lot of windows for one floor," he said beginning to nail down the boards of wood across the first window he came across. "If you could help me hold the boards of wood that would be awesome."

Sierra nodded as she held one of the boards in place "Sure, not a problem." Leilani came over, eyes a bit red from tears. "Ummm...can I do anything?"

"Just... watch the other entrances. Tell us if someone's heading our way," Wise said dismissing Leilani. "Anyone could try to be getting in here. Do not let anyone in."

"O...Okay. I'll let you know if people try to get in." Leilani answered as she headed for the back entry-way. In the meantime Sierra continued to help Wise board up the windows "Do you have any ideas what's happening out there? I'm not entirely sure, seems like people are going mad and regressing to herd mentality."

"People are getting... sick out there. Very sick. They just... want to do nothing but attack us. And if you get bit, you'll want to do it too," Wise said as he continued to nail boards across the windows. "I'm sorry if I'm intruding but I'm doing the best I can to help."

Sierra merely sighed sadly "I think I may have seen the first case of this...I was at the hospital on a twenty-four hour shift when this fox was wheeled in near-dead. He passed shortly after he was rushed to intensive care. But...but a little later he got up and just started attacking the doctor. The doctor told me to run and I immediately rushed home to find Leilani had slipped out of school and my husband had some bite mark on his leg and was really sick."

"Leilani seems to be taking it surprisingly well. Probably because of the shock," Wise said stopping. "I'm gonna get more boards from the basement. I'll be right back," he said beginning to go off downstairs to get more wood.

Sierra nodded as she finished boarding up the window Wise was working on. Suddenly there was a clacking sound coming from the back door "Ummm...mama...there's people at the door. They don't look so good." They had blood on their mouths and around their eyes as they clawed at the door.

Wise, unaware of the noise upstairs, began to grab more wood from downstairs. He began to slowly walk up the stairs with a large pile of wood.
