Star Trek Discovery
« on: September 23, 2017, 06:44:30 pm »
Star Trek Discovery premieres tomorrow. :)
http://www.cbs.com/shows/star-trek-discovery/
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Trek:_Discovery

While I wish I could say that I'll be watching it.........I won't. Not because I probably wouldn't like it. But rather because of CBS's need to have a subscription for watching it and only making it available on the CBS All Access network only.  >:(

Just from the trailers only, the show appears to look good, but the jury is still out as for the design of the new ship, the USS Discovery. Many Star Trek fans are kinda split as to liking or hating the new design of the ship.

Anybody else looking forward to this series? What are your thoughts?

Pay only seems to say they know this wont generate enough capital on it's own. After the reboot movies complete lack of the original cannon. After the very hard to watch 'Star Trek Enterprise' I'd have to say no. I watched the original. Really liked 'the next generation'. Liked some of the sci fi in 'deep space nine' and 'voyager'.  Not going to speculate on this new one. But not expecting anything good either.

I cannot in good conscience watch or promote a show where the people must pay a subscription fee to watch every single episode and where the entire series is only on CBS All Access and no other stations or services.  >:( Therefore, I am "taking the knee" in protest.  >:(

Have to agree. I would prefer to watch the series but I'm not about to pay a premium to cbs's random access whatever in order to watch it.

The football game that was playing at the same time was really one sided. So it wasn't hard to pull myself away for a bit. Watched some of this new show. In my opinion, atrocity. The creators ditch all the science and sci-fi that made the original and generation worth watching. And follow in the shadow of the new movies. Lots of flashy things to keep play station babies interested. Even the CGI generated sets were over the top flashy. Very low budget. Like I stated in the above post. They knew this show wouldn't make it on it's own. That's why it's on their pay per view. Networks like HBO and ShowTime have to put out quality because pay per view is all they have. Networks like CBS make their profits with add revenue. If no one is watching the show they lose. So they want you pay to watch what they know wont last on regular tv.

I haven't seen it, but 'Cause mentions a few things my ex-gf mentioned, so I probably won't ever give it a chance.

I'll just... let that dumpster fire burn itself out.

Star Trek: Discovery is actually on (Australian) Netflix. I just watched the first two episodes. It was pretty good imo and hopefully it develops an interesting story-line.

I have been a big fan of Star Trek ever since they put it on sindication
in the early 1970's..

What bugs me is the suits a Paramount are more interested in using the
series to make movies than making a new series for the general public

It wasn't till Star Wars came out that they even made a movie of Star Trek.
Then after the Next Generation ran for 7 years they canceled the popular series
to convert to movies rather than letting the series play out. Apparently Voyager
wasn't popular enough to make a movie, and it ended after 7 years. Also  Deep
Space Nine. (a personal favorite) ended after 7 years with no movie.  I thought
it was odd these three series all ended after 7 seasons.  I understand Deep
Space Nine was loosing an audience.. A good reason to get better writing or
end it. They left some followup story lines unmade.

Perhaps they are hopeing this new series will gain enough popularity to make
another movie or two. Only time will tell. Personally I think these stories should
be more about the characters than tons of action. That is what made the original
series so good. A good mix of action and story.

Avatar drawn by me.

I miss Star Trek Enterprise.

Dad and I found a free streaming site to watch the new Star trek show and it's pretty good.
