A Sad Day in the BlueGrass World
« on: August 22, 2004, 11:10:35 pm »
I know not a lot of the furs here are bluegrass fans but Charley Waller of the Country Gentlemen passed away on thursday. He was one of the true legends of country music and a true "Country Gentleman". He was a good friend of my stepmothers family, she and my father would visit him every couple of months when he was off the road (he loved to show off his newest bus). I had the pleasure of meeting him at a couple of the family gatherings, he always loved to talk to people.
He died the way I'd hope to go, at home . He went to his garden to pick some okra for his wife to fix for dinner and suffered a heart attack and possible anurisim. His wife feels he went quickly, for he never made a sound of distress.
If you like bluegrass and have never heard the Country Gentlemen play, look up some of thier albums. They truely were one of, if not the, greatest group to play.

*eyebrow* Sporty, I doubt very much your gonna find more than a handfull of country boys here, or even in the fandom.  i AM one of the few country boys around here, and I never heard of the man...I like a little bluegrass everynow and then, but I've pretty much been out of the media loop except for the internet.  I'm hearing about the latest country stuff right NOW...it's a pain when you can't watch tube, listen to the radio, etc when ya can't put your antenna up for fear of lightning, there's no radio IN the car...etc.

Down in a hole, losing my soul
I'd like to fly,
But my wings have been so denied. ...Alice in Chains
