Fake Videos, for fun or to harm.
« on: April 19, 2018, 11:09:28 am »
Technology is nearing the ability to create fake videos
that look like the real thing.

Will hackers use them trying to ruin a politician? Or
to show a famous person in a bad light?

I imagine in many cases it will be mostly for fun, but
hopefully there will be a way to expose them for what
they are. Even if those who post them don't mention
it's a fake. As is it would be difficult for You Tube to
review every video to see fake edits.

There is software in work that will detect most edits in
videos. Still most people won't be looking for edits. If
when you watch a video and see or hear the person of
interest say or do something out of character it's likely
a fake video.

If it is super realistic im not sure how I could determine if it is indeed fake.
Sure would be easy to ruin somebody with just the right video at the right time.
Would there have too be an agreed upon way to embed digital fingerprints into videos? And a way to let us all verify them?  I know that some Adobe documents can be set to verify externally before opening.

I know my DSLR can embed a digital signature into my photos,  which can be damaged from editing.
But that required an expensive license and software I think so I never went that route.

I bet fake videos are out there. Not just for fun either.
Too easy now
Bear your soul and take control
If the wolves are howling outside your door
Invite them in and make them beg for more!
