What do you hate/dislike about music?

What grinds your gears about music? Whether it be the song itself, the type of music, the person singing it, or something else?

I can tolerate any music that is well made. What I can't stand is low effort music ie: most pop music. Loads,of autotune, effects, and no rythmic ,melodic ,or lyrical complexity

Heavily modulated vocals to the extent that is sounds like singing robots.

I guess I like some music I think is nostalgic.  Or music which has a new catchy sound or rhythm. I also like very complex ambient electronica.

I don't like hateful lyrics.

Heavily used to promote the 'looks only' movement. Yes, it's used for live concerts. If you have a body and can shake it your a star. This is the biggest reason older music has more feeling to it. The Beach Boys sounded the way they did because they couldn't sing. Go to youtube and check out their song Barbra Ann. Their singing is horrible.

The over production of music in a studio. This goes for all forms of music. Layering and adding things to make a recording sound fuller.

As a classical musician, I feel very strongly about this. In our world, you are not allowed to get any help. No autotune, affects, not even amplification. Every thing you hear comes from the performer and nothing else.  I think this approach helps you grow as an artist. If you mess up, then too bad. You can't blame it on anyone but yourself. this encourages hard work and helps people strive to do the best they can. I have very strong feelings against those who, cheat, and in my opinion, they are frauds who don't deserve to have the privelage of making art.

Overly repetitive lyrics, especially when there is no change in pitch or timing. It's as if the writer/performer couldn't think of anything creative, so they just repeat the same short sentence, sometimes repeating just one word three to five times in a row for each run of the chorus, padding the length of the song up to the minimum for suitable radio play.

Also, like many here. I don't really care for the over use of particular effects, like auto-tune. Though i do believe it has its place as a method of artistry in music. It's a tool, and like any tool there is a right and wrong way to use it.
Same with vox screaming and growling in doom, death, and viking metal. It has it's place, but can be (and is often) very overused.
These things should be additions to add to the vocal lead, not necessarily be the entirety of the vocal lead.

Stormy, never heard it called vox screaming. Awesome. That's actually a really old vocal technique. Used by James Brown, Janice Joplin, Eddy Mercury, Paul McCartney and many others. It's not screaming at all. But you can add it to a scream. For an example try listening to Paul McCartney's 'Maybe I'm Amazed'. He's using the very same technique all these screamers and growlers are doing.

and speaking of over used techniques

Yodeling. You take a single word. Then stretch it out by quickly going through notes in a scale. It's great to hear once in a wile or specked through a song in bits. But when someone spend half their time yodeling through each song it gets old quickly. There are very few singers that don't use this technique. It's a spice like salt. Then you add more salt, and more salt and even more and more salt..........

Of course, this is a traditional Bavarian folk song and it's probably not for everybody but what he is doing takes mad skill.

Another thing that I don't like is misic that is all about virtuosity and no musicality. Showpieces are great and all but in the end, what good is it if there is no emotion?

You might like NF. I didn't care for rap until Pandora slipped one of his songs in while I was listening to rock. It blew my socks off, so much that I actually looked him up and listened to more.

While most rap is about guns, police, violence, sex, drugs, drinking, and crime, NF's is about mental health, struggles with life, self doubt, and other problems. Watching the generic rap music video you'll see beautiful, scantly clad women, erotic dancing, displays of wealth (fancy cars, jewelry, etc), glamorization of crime, and so on and so forth. Meanwhile NF is pushing a shopping cart around ruins with some balloons while wearing a tshirt. It's packed with imagery while not coming across as preachy.

His lyrics are heavy, meaning they force you to think and examine yourself. Here's the best part: he does it all without using profanity.

Oh I see what you mean. Is yodeling the official term for it? I can see how it would be annoying when overused.

Pretentious modern proggressives music. I love proggressive music when it's well thought out. Take Stravinsky's " Rite of Spring" for example. But a lot of people have the impression that all you need to do make modern music these days is to throw in a bunch of dissonant chords and call it a day. This is what turned a lot of people away from classical music in the mid 20th century.
