Political parties: What good are they for?

Political parties. Why have them? What good are they for? What do they really stand for?

To the best of my knowledge, George Washington never belonged to any political party. He was against them and warned the colonies during his farewell address about the dangers of having political parties and how they could have a detrimental effect on the government.

Political parties remind me of the following quote: "Republicans and Democrats are nothing more than a pair of unfit parents over a custody battle over America. They're not hurting each other near as much as they're hurting this country."

For nearly 240+ years, a raging battle has been going on. And it all started between Thomas Jefferson's Democratic-Republican party and Alexander Hamilton's Federalist party...........with the rest of the country/people caught in the middle.

I don't know about anybody else, but I wish we never had political parties. I wish both the Republican and Democratic parties were dissolved. Come to think of it, we had a time when they almost were........to a degree of sorts  :o

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Era_of_Good_Feelings

But if the Republican and Democratic parties were ever dissolved today, what would they be replaced with, if anything? I honestly don't know. All I know is that I (and I'm sure lots of other Americans) are sick and tired of the "battles" that have been going on for the last 2 centuries between these two parties. Is there anything or anybody that can get these two parties to come/work together and see eye to eye? Or are the American people doomed to live forever in a never ending custody battle for decades and centuries to come?

What do the Republicans really want for this country and it's people?
And what do the Democrats want also?

The American people are caught in a tug-of-war between these two parties. Something has got to give because enough is enough.  >:( I don't think the American people are going to be able to take much more of this.

If by political parties you mean a place where there is music and dancing and free food... the free food is about all they are good for. Politicians can't dance.

Ok...
Maybe political parties are good for getting people together to discuss views,  and to increase power of the ideas.

The US is home to two of the most useless political organizations in the world. I'm referring, of course, to the Libertarian Party and Green Party.  :D

In all seriousness, though, the idea that we wouldn't have divisions if we didn't have political parties is a band aid, not a cure. People would still take sides on issues, and they'd still naturally congregate into groups of people with generally similar ideologies. It's how humans work.

It used to be a choice between two ideals. Dems more for the middle class and small businesses with more government involvement. Rep more for big business, trade and a smaller government footprint. The Dems are still the same. Republicans? As they stand now they can't help anyone. Toting ideas like the gold standard and trickle down economics. Their mis information about the virus. they are now nothing more than a power mad waste of time. The last real republican president we had was Reagan That was a long time ago. I know for a fact the republican charter, yes, they have rules to join their club, was changes after the outrage over their wanting to discontinue the teaching of critical thinking in public schools.

Jade, This came to light wile Obama was president. Around the same time Fox news started their barrage of programing claiming. "Critical Thinking is a waste of time". "People who think outside the bod are dangerous". And one of their most communist claims yet, "People with high educations are dangerous".  This is no joke. This stuff really happened. I didn't follow any of the reports to find out if anything efforts had been, or was ongoing, to interfere with any states educational systems.

This is one of the reasons the republican party wants clowns for presidents. They failed big time with Sara Palin. That's why right wing media pushed Trump as someone who could do no wrong. And continually called him 'Our President'. The republican party wants America to be distracted. Remember folks. The republican party took an important vote behind, and with no cameras aloud, doors. Because we didn't need to know. A very unconstitutional act. Media outlets like MSMBC and CNN kept all eyes on the clown. With absolutely no coverage of anything happening in the house or senate. For four years now. The real damage is free press has failed America miserably.

Hmm... my college pushed critical thinking above most anything else... I guess they were communist leaning, too bad they are HEAVILY rooted in oil and gas exploration which is often thought of as not leftish...

And as for Sarah Palin, I can't vote for anyone who shoots wolves from a helicopter.  Seriously, wolves to me are dang near sacred.
If you want to kill a wolf, do it bare handed, face to face.  Then you earned the right.
