This may be one of the few......and only......things I like from Trump. Sorry, folks. But I have to agree that the Federal gov't has no place/right to make decisions on bathroom access for transgender individuals. If you want transgender bathroom rights, then please seek it at the City and/or State level. Dragging transgender bathroom rights to a Federal level is a waste of the Federal government's time, money, and other resources. The Federal gov't has bigger problems to deal with like trade, immigration, ISIS, etc. than to have to worry about which bathroom little Timmy (aka Debbie) wants to use.
And if transgender people can't get the right to use whatever bathroom they want, then try asking for an alternative option: Ask businesses, politicians, etc. to build more "unisex" restrooms. I'd probably be fine with that option.

Well, it certainly won't be the first time nor will it be the last. We got 4 years of this jerk running and ruining this country. God only knows what he'll do next or how far he'll go.

I don't know, I think making sure everyone gets their basic rights is the Federal Government's business. "Little Timmy (a.k.a. Debbie)" shouldn't have to wait until his city or state gets around to deciding to grant them.

I tend to think some people feel Transgender folks only want to look at someone
while they do their business. There is no evidence of this at all. If someone wanted
to do that to peep or grab someone they can do that most anywhere. If they
wanted to expose themselves they don't need a bathroom.

I think the best way is to build solid lockable rooms in a common area where anyone
could use them. Then have the vanities and  mirrors in the same common open room.
That way no one could grab or expose them selves without everyone knowing.

The mirror vanity sets could have short seperators so someone couldn't watch
another redo their hair or makeup. Then if someone has a personal need they
can go to the school nurse for that. Or handle it in a closed room.

I have been in bathrooms where others act silly, but it's rare, bathrooms
should be for doing ones business, and not for social meetings.

They need to build all new public buildings to allow for all peoples needs
and not follow the past. For now see to it that all bathrooms have good
stalls that are private and lock securely.

Should it be up to individual states if they want to segregate "whites" and "coloreds"?   I really don't see where it's all that different.  Both cases are issues of irrational fear from bigoted individuals. While the people in question just want dispose of bodily waste while retaining their dignity doing so, the same as anyone else that needs to use those facilities.

Much of this does fall back on States rights over the federal gov.  At least that's
the one big excuse those who are against it claim. It's mostly just old ideas
that people cling to. They use any excuse to justify discrimination.

Unfortunately the GOP has made running against the LGBT a party standard. So
anywhere they have power you can expect them to come up with laws to
punish or discriminate against them.

Yet there are LGBT who voted for Trump. Most people want to keep more of their earnings. Ever hear of Log Cabin Republicans? Lavatory issues are not everyone's top priority. Except when the bathroom tissue runs out.

IIRC--There was news that Trump left in protections in federal hiring of LGBT contractors as edicts of the previous administration are rolled back.

Leting individual states decide who has rights will lead to
all kinds of social issues. One state lets LGBT have more
rights. Others let Blacks have more rights. Women more
rights. Where does it end? It's one country not 50. We are
all Americans and we should learn how to live together.

Local laws should be for the good of all, not limit rights because
people don't like someones life style or skin color.
