I really didn't know this was so...  widespread, I guess?  When I was working at Gamestop, a woman came in looking for some Christmas gifts for her kids.  I asked if they had played Pokemon, and she just stared at me like a deer caught in the headlights.  She went off about how Pokemon were demons.  I thought she was a little confused at first, and tried to tell her that Japanese "demons" aren't really the same thing as what she was thinking of.  That was the only time I can ever remember a customer running from me.  I'm pretty sure she thought I was a Satanist or something, because I was defending the game.

Well, at least now I know where it comes from.

You probably have to grow up in a fundamentalist protestant Bible Belt state like Oklahoma to fully appreciate this, but what the Vatican says doesn't mean a hill of beans to those people. It can even work against you. Some of them even think the Catholic Church is Satanic.
