I think me and Mylo are coming
we've registered anyway. Now just need to sort accomodation and travel...and passport
Mylo, please don't let me forget, my mind is a siv.
Still wanna plan the trip?

I think I'm all set for this. Registration done, rooming arrangements are set... now I just need my tail situation remedied.
-
I'll make it this year.
-
wow, i'm suddenly really nervous *shys back*
-

Don't sweat it. I was nervous last year before I went (first con and all). But that all dissipated pretty quickly, to where I could just relax, enjoy myself, and take in the whole experience.
-
I'm really excited but to meet all of you guys is an honor and a little overwhelming ^^

As far as rooming goes, I'm rooming with Ziel, Mylo, and former Furtopian Saril.
We usually have a Furtopia meet that involves pizza. We can discuss that as it gets closer to the con :). Even though it's four months away, I'm already super excited.
-
did I hear pizza and furtopia meeting O.O *flails* eee can I join o.O

I'll be there as usual. I'll be in artists alley, so once again I may just do my run-by hello if/when there's a meetup.

I believe you mean "when," rather than "if/when." :D
-
We could make a stop at the table and bring you pizza so you dont feel left out O.o

Ya say that every year and never make it to pizza with us ;)! Well hey, time will tell :)
-

There is a very strict cap of 4 per room (fire/safety codes).
But, yes. Pizza meetup is rather necessary. We can try to plan specifics later (perhaps a bit better than last year). It'll help to know the event schedule first. But we'd love to have as many people as we can get.
-
(perhaps a bit better than last year)
We're not settling for anything less. :)
-
I would like to put myself on market for a room shim if someone cancels hit me up. If not i will beg anyone else going for a box o.o
-
What's the closest greyhound/train station in rosemont o.O Greyhound hasnt a clue
-
I'm going this year with my mum. We're not staying in a hotel because Rosemont is a little over half an hour away. Depending on if I can get it done in time, I may be in suit. (Not a very good one id you ask me :P )
-
Is it near chicago o'hare? And shim may i join in picking up mylo cause i willl get lost x.x

It's pretty much right across the highway from O'Hare. It looks like there are quite a few transit stations not far away from the hotel (including what appears to be a Greyhound station). I also know that Megabus serves Chicago in general, and being so close to the airport, I would think there would be a station not far. Megabus is known to be pretty reasonably priced.
-
O.o then i just go to o'hare and meet with ya all o.o that ok?
-
*Blinks in confusion*
Heh wow...i'm scared, I donno.
I'm from the UK and this is the first major trip i've ever though about
Basically first trip to USA, first trip alone, etc.
*gulp*
Maybe it's to much?

That's up to you to decide. If you're generally a good planner and organizer, have gone through the process of getting a passport, and have a sufficient proficiency in street smarts, I imagine that you'd be OK. If you're concerned, you could always try a European furry con first.

We've got cookies natura o.o

did you say cookies?
*looks back at his cookie monster bible*
Your right i'm just being silly, Cookies are more important ^^, that is destiny

Well, I think you should go :P
But yeah, yeah, it is up to what you're comfortable with. Being an international trip for you, you'll definitely want to make sure you've got things planned well. Traveling actually isn't that bad. Even alone. Just have to make sure you're set to go to the right destination and on the right day, pretty much. And once you've traveled alone once, it won't feel like a huge deal at all to do it again in the future.
Back in high school, the first trip I ever took was an international trip. Fortunately it was with a group from school, but still first time on a plane and I was going across the Atlantic was a big deal for me. Now, I've done a decent amount of traveling alone for work stuff. Generally, if you just approach it with confidence, it'll work out.

Yes confidence *gets some of that freezes it, shapes it like a bat and gives to Natura* Now go beat your fears
-
Hahaha, Okies guys
I'll do my best.
*thinks*
so is it just the 22nd that is the furfest or is it all 3 days?
-
all three days
-
Okies, so it's like a weeks holiday ^^

Use your Furtopian name, so we can recognise each other ^^
-
But but i could sneak up on ya all and go "Ha it is i gauthar in disguise." Tosses cookie at
-
I think the Old Rabbit would have something to say about that :P

O.o like what o.o

:D I know, I'm such a party pooper. ;)
Being in artists alley I can't leave my table for an extended amount of time lest they take it away for lack of presence. If the meetup is held after AA hours (or even right before it closes) I'd be able to get to it.
Or maybe this year I'll just show up ninja-style and surprise you all! BWAHAHAHAHA!
-

I'll be sure to watch out for any ninjas with propeller caps (:
-
Well my manager who does schedules was in good mood when asked for her to review and made sound like no biggie for me to take off. If not who wants to help break my arm a week prior so i can?
-
I want to go sooooo badly :( but my dad said that I have to wait another year so he doesn't have to walk around with me and measlehound... Which according to the website he'd have to do as I won't be 16 at the time of the convention... But he said that I definatly can go next year... I'm saddened :(
-
I am in search of roomie for mwff please inquire within
-
O.o no one needs a roomie?
-
Seems like most Furtopians already have arrangements set for this year. Might need to check some other avenues to see if you can drum up interest. I'm not sure if there's any sort of 'looking for roommate' listing anywhere. I've been lucky and managed to find people with an extra slot now both last year and this year.
-
XD ARWOOOOO and my work approved the days now to set it all up if need i will get hotel on own or a box. Boxes are nice this time of year
-
Boxes are nice this time of year
Sadly, the convention is in November. Sorry to disappoint.
-
So i pack an extra blanket XD
-
Artic Shadow and I will be there. I took Friday off work and we plan to make a weekend of it although we will not be staying in the hotel. I'm so looking forward to it! I love doing furry stuff with my daughter!
-
It'll be great to see you two again :)!
-
I'll be driving to Chicago bright and early that Thursday morning, ready to go!
But, I'll probably be stuck at a table in Artist's Alley all weekend. After hours, chances are good I'll be fursuiting though :)
-
lol due to influences of shim it looks like i'm cming to
-
I will be going for the first time this year. Unfortunately I am going alone and don't know anyone yet. LOL All these years I been a furry and never knew it. Ah well never to late to start (I hope anyway)
-

We have a meetup each year. Have pizza with us :D!
-
I definitely will Shim. Even though I tend to be shy and quiet in a group. I am a bit of an introvert but I am trying to work on that LOL.
Gauthar I do have a spare bed in my room but unfortunately I am in the Westin over flow hotel. If you don't mind sharing with a newbie
Looking forward to being there
-
I will be going this year. Its going to be my second convention ever. The only other convention being MFF 2007. Don't know why it took me so long to come again seeing as I had so much fun last time.
-
this feels soooo awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!
M.L. I am certainly looking forward to meet you :)
-
Several people have asked, but I must decline.
-
I'll be there with Loramendi Allura Sung, Thrakmon and maybe Daria (the fursuits, not the people). I usually avoid larger cons so we'll have to see how this goes.

YAY WE CAN MEET UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! *HUGS*
-
Hopefully I'll have pics up of Allura so you'll recognize me in that.
-
I still need a roomie anyone interested?
-
Gunthar I have a room at the Westin which is one of the overflow hotels for the con. you are welcome to the other bed if you want it. according to the con website it is only a 10 min walk to the con site. I think that the hotels are next to one another not sure since I have never been there before. Didn't decide to go until the end of July and by then all the rooms were sold out LOL except for the kings and I choose to save some money and elected to walk (I need the exercise anyway LOL)
-
That sounds great and will pay half for hotel cause wont be fair.
-
Pm me with info and then i will contact on days off
-
Gauthar not sure if you got my message I sent it about 2 weeks ago or so Hope you got it let me know via pm.
Shim I will need the info for the meetup. Let me know if I should bring something too.
-
Mayhaps I shall go. It all depends on how much money I will be putting into my Cancun trip. Plus... I need a fursuit.....
-
I need a fursuit.....

YES! Tikku got his juggling panel!
-
Is it just me, or does it look like there's a lot more variety in the panels this year? Or at least a few more that I might be interested in going to.
-
yay schedule, Boo conflicts. So much I want to attend unfortunately there are a few conflicts now I have to choose which to go to and what I'll have to skip sigh. I need two of me but guess I'll just have to hope that I can find a video on youtube later to watch some of what I'll miss. At least I can meet 2 and Kage or do they always attend? Also two of the fursuit makers I have been considering will be there too. Getting too excited I better go lie down for a while.
-
I will be attending MFF this year. If you want to say Hi, stop by my table in the dealers den.
-
I'm gonna be there, yay! I know, I know, long time, no type! MFF 2012 was my first con, and I had a great time at the last meet up. I hope to see you all there! (:
Jynx, the COFFEE addicted dynx and creamer abuser...

Cool. See you there!
Also... that probably means we should start looking for a time we can generally agree on for the meetup.
Wondering if you guys think perhaps holding it in our room this year might be better? Since we have a full furtopian room, I wouldn't feel bad taking it over for such a purpose. Of course that is if everybody else in the room is okay with it.
I can probably try to remember to bring a stack of paper plates and some plastic forks/knives this time, too. I'll already be bringing paper bowls and spoons to make oatmeal in the mornings...
EDIT: So, I just reviewed the con schedule, and at least in terms of my interests, I see an open spot on Saturday from 5-7 that could work. The other good option I see would be later on Friday, between 8 and 10pm. As a bit of a lesson-learned from last year, we might want to figure out our pizza order ahead of time this time, and then call to place the order 45 minutes or so before the meet. Especially if we do decide on Saturday during prime dinner hours.

Sounds good to me. We might want to do it outside again if we have too many people. Our room is going to be the size of last year's brony meet (for the episode showing).

Has a day & time been established yet?
-
Friday between 8 and 10 sounds good to me. How about the rest of you?

I'll probably go see 2, so I'll get there late, but I will still come.
-
I should be able to get back there by that time. Any established meeting place?
-
We met upstairs at one of the couches with a table (near the restaurant) last year. Up the stairs and just to the left. Sorta near the elevators. (This is the only picture I can find online without searching throughout all of FA)

-
I never remember my dreams
-
Any more input on the day/time for the meet? Is Friday between 8 and 10 a go?
-
IT'S THE FINAL COUNTDOWN
-
Alright! So one more time, are we good for 8:00 on Friday, up the stairs and to the left of the lobby (by the couches)?

I'm bringing a roll of paper towels, some paper plates, and plastic forks/knives to use this time. Which means we probably won't end up needing them since I have them, but PREPARATION!

I was really looking forward to attending the annual MFF Furtopia members meetup again this year (I was able to make the one two years ago if I remember correctly), but the day and time that you guys chose to hold the meetup is the same time as 2 the Ranting Gryphon's show... That's a tough choice, man. Both the Furtopia member meetup and seeing 2's show are both things that I would generally rank as being "must do" events, and now I am being forced to choose between them. If I tried to find you guys at 9PM after 2's show is over, where would you all be?
-
Artic and I missed seeing everyone tonight. We were enjoying Uncle Kage's storytime. We'll be there all day tomorrow and Sunday until it closes. Today was brilliant good fun!!! :)
-
Well, this con has come and gone. And just... wow. As much as I enjoyed last year's MFF, I think this year kicked it up a notch. Likely because there were quite a few people there that I knew this time around. And it also helped that I knew a bit more about what to expect from it this time, and didn't need to spend the first day and a half just kinda stunned from awe at the whole experience. And special thanks to Shim and his parents for holding the little pre-con get-together for our group on Thursday night. That was lots of fun by itself.
At the con this year, I didn't actually go to a whole lot of the actual programming. I spent a good chunk of it just wandering around and hanging out with various people. A lot of it with the help of Natura, cause I'm not all that outgoing myself. There were a couple occasions where he recruited a random fursuiter to join us in wandering, which was rather entertaining all around. We even stumbled upon what seemed to be some strange religious ceremony involving a circle of fursuits chanting around Raptor Jesus (it was a video shoot). Also ended up checking out the fursuit dance competition, which was pretty awesome to see. When I think of the talents of the fandom, I think mostly of the arts and crafts side of it. So seeing some pretty good dancing, especially for being in a fursuit, was a blast.
Long and short of it: I owe a lot to the 7 people in our little group for making the weekend awesome. Notably from here, that would be Shim, Mylo, Natura, and Gauthar. I can't wait to see you guys again next year. And maybe some at AC 2014???
-
Pretty much what Ziel said.
I'm REALLY REALLY glad all of the craziness worked out, that everybody seemed to have fun (Albedo), and that everybody made it home safely.
I really want to thank everybody who came to the Furtopia meet, and I especially want to thank Ziel for putting up with my shenanigans -coughorderingdinneronsaturdaycough-
Everything went by much too fast this year, but hey, next year!

What matters is that we eventually got to eat food! And it was quite tasty, too.
On another note, I still close my eyes and see fursuits everywhere O.O
Being around them for a few days makes me want to try it.

OMG!!!! I kid you not, when i was on the plane I did the exact same thing, and it made me feel so tranquil and happy.
Guys I really wanna thank all of you (including the ones not on this site) for putting up with me and my desire to feed cookies to everyone ^^. I also wanna thank you for being patient with me when I felt lost.
If it hadn't of been for you guys I would never of been there, so I thank you from all of my heart, but even more thank you Ziel. You truly are a great guy, out of all the spontaneous things we did, it was great to see you laugh so heartfully :). You are a swell comrad.
Lots of love to you all <3
-
Good con was good! And it was awesome to actually make it to a Furtopia meet up for once! :D
Lots of fun was had with you guys--I wish I could have stayed longer, or hung out with you more over the weekend.
From the Furfest forums--"To recap our final numbers: We had around 3,825 attendees, which included 240 Sponsors and 75 Shiny Sponsors. We had 972 fursuiters in the Fursuit Parade. Between donations, the Charity Poker Tournament, the Charity Auction, and 2 and Kage's Charty Show, $8,000 was raised for our charity, One Tail at a Time. We were pleased to be able to add a donation of $20,000 on top of that."
Good stuff all around. You guys rock!
-
Yes indeed fun times i met sheeta whose actions alone make me feel i am somewhat sane....bahahaha sorry couldnt even type that without chuckling. Ps text me to keep in toucb oh crazy one. The con itself was great i hugged many fursuiters and crushed the hug competition me, ziel, and natura had going. A few commissions random shirts from grab bags one being red lantern. Random badges, buttons, into a new game, other things and had overall fun
-
While I sadly wasn't able to hang out with all of you for very long on Friday night, I am extremely glad that I was still able to attend your Furtopia meet-up for at least a little while. I just had an extremely busy con with *way* too much that I wanted to do, and as a result I zipped into the hotel room where you were having the meetup in the short time that I had between "2 the Ranting Gryphon's" stand-up comedy routine and when the "MLP Party Panel" started. My whole MFF weekend was like that-- zipping in and out between various panels, shows, organized events, room parties, and other things, all the while barely stopping even to eat or sleep. Heck, here it is Tuesday night already and I still feel as if I was run over by a bus after that marathon of activity-- I have a feeling that I have only just begun to recuperate from last weekend (and I don't even drink)! :D
Looking back on last Friday night and how things ended up playing out, in retrospect I probably should have stayed hanging out with you guys instead of leaving your get-together early to go to the "MLP Party Panel." While that MLP panel was an absolutely blast at both MFF 2011 and MFF 2012, this year legal threats from Hasbro absolutely neutered what the panelists were allowed to say, show, and do, which just decimated that panel and sucked the life straight from it. *sigh* That panel was actually depressing, and not in any way a party at all! Way more "Pinkamina" than "Pinkie Pie," you know?
My convention experience itself, while overall positive, did have its ups and downs, with highs and lows sometimes happening in the same day. I think that one of the largest contributing factors to that is just how huge Midwest Furfest is getting. When I first started attending Midwest Furfest 11-years ago it had only 748 attendees. My two most memorable Furfests, 2004 and 2005, had 885 and 1066 attendees, respectively. When the con was smaller in size like that it just took far less time to do things-- there was only one artist alley room instead of four, the art show and the dealer den were both half the size, and there were fewer programming tracks to have to choose between. And while at first glance that all may seem like a Bad Thing, the truth is that it gives you a chance to actually do it all, *and* still have plenty of time left over to relax and hang out with all of your out-of-town friends.
When I first attended Anthrocon in 2009, that con had 3776-attendees. I thought that number of attendees was absolutely huge at the time, and I found the massive size of the con and the sea of its attendees to be absolutely exhausting! As Sheeta reported above, Midwest Furfest had 3825-attendees this year, which is 49 more than were at the overwhelming experience that I had at Anthrocon! And yet, I *still* try to do all the things that I used to do at Furfest a decade ago, except that there are now more programming tracks, the dealer room and the art show are twice the size, and the artist alley is now four-times the size... No wonder I end up running around like crazy all weekend with no time to eat or sleep!!! Now don't get me wrong-- I love Midwest Furfest! It's located so close to me that it is nearly on my doorstep, and it was my first furry con and the con that I have attended more than any other. But boy oh boy has it gotten big! And that just makes it so much harder to coordinate with other people-- apparently several of my friends showed up there but I missed them completely, never happening across them in that sea of people in acrylic fur and dog collars! In future years I may have to find another one of the smaller nearby furry cons to start going to as well so that I can get that smaller con cozy atmosphere back!
My grey-muzzle-like griping about ever-increasing con-size aside, once again it was nice to see all of my fellow Furtopians again. As always when I run into Sheeta my wallet suddenly became thinner and I ended up with still more of her incredible MLP:FiM-themed buttons! I think I bought 5 of them this time? Apparently I just can't resist them! :) And while I see Shim all of the time at local LAFF events, seeing him again is never a bad thing. And I ended up talking about machine language programming and microprocessor architecture with redyoshi49q until like 3 or 4 in the morning one night... That's never a bad conversation! LOL! And I saw the ever-talented Furtopia member and tail-maker Lascivus_Lutra in the dealer's den and picked up my first-ever tail that I had commissioned from him this year! That's right-- I have been going to furry cons for 11-years now, and up until 4-days ago I never had or wore a tail... I just ease into these things slowly I guess! At this rate I will finally get my very first fursuit at Midwest Furfest 2023! :D So yeah, my over-scheduling myself and con-size complaints aside, it was still overall a very fun con! In any case I look forward to attending Midwest Furfest again next year, and hopefully my schedule will work out better next time so that I can spend the entire duration of the Furtopia member meetup with you guys instead of having to dart in and out like I ended up doing this year!

HIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII!!!!!
@Hoagiebot
Hey there, i'm sorry I didn't get to see you. Or maybe I did considering I didn't know that was Sheeta XD.
At any rate, the size isn't a bad thing when you look at it this way. You were never going to see everything, it is impossible, but then it means you got something to look forward to the year after. it also means your experiences will always change (knock on wood) possibly for the better or same :).
I mean on saturday all I went to participate in was the 'whoes lions is it anyway' and see the parade. The rest of the time it was just meeting new people and being in these moments.
At any rate maybe someday we'll meet.....if we haven't already XD
Also Gauther - you didn't win cause we all stopped counting so *blows rasberry*

So I am new to Furtopia but not the furry lifestyle or MFF. I was so pleased with MFF. I bought some fabulous things and happy to say my panel was a smash hit and I can't wait to program again next year!
Furres are amazing and I loved my time there

Discussions with Duck: Sexuality in the Furry Fandom
it was crammed in at 10pm on Saturday because it was a 'mature' topic. Had a great turn out and a great turn out in 2012 so I am working on a few ideas for next year

Sorry I didn't see many of you. Maybe next year!

Who were you?

(To those of you who missed the memo: I did go to MFF this year. I... was a little delayed in making my arrangements to do so, hence the lack of prior mention of this. ...Yay for procrastination?)
On another note, I still close my eyes and see fursuits everywhere O.O
I sometimes see things in my peripheral vision and think (however briefly) that the thing I saw was a fursuiter. I'm sorry to say this, Ziel, but the condition's incurable; you'll just have to go to more furry cons for therapy.
And I ended up talking about machine language programming and microprocessor architecture with redyoshi49q until like 3 or 4 in the morning one night... That's never a bad conversation! LOL!
It was a fun conversation, indeed! Imagine if we had actually had the relevant hardware in front of us; we may *never* have gone to bed!
Your first suit might come sooner than you think. A tail's only the beginning...

Hoagie was the guy wearing a white lab coat (a la the mad scientist stereotype). ...No, not that (http://www.unclekage.com/rlpics/kageevil1.jpg) guy in a white lab coat, the other (http://forums.furtopia.org/convention-talk/midwest-furfest-nov-18-20-2011/msg820640/#msg820640) one...
But I suppose the greatest thing I took away from this con, the thing I enjoyed the most, was just hanging out with all you guys. It was surreal being there with you all, and even as I'm typing this I miss you all already...
There's a reason why PCD is an acronym in this fandom. Cons have a tendency to be such a fun experience that in comparison, the baseline mood of an everyday life feels like depression.

...And now I remember why your name seemed vaguely familiar to me at coffee. Hi! I was the guy that was chatting up a storm with a snow leopard.
(And welcome to the forums, BTW.)
P.S.: It was nice seeing all of you guys (new faces as well as old) at MFF. I had a great time.
P.P.S.: Rootbeer's photoshoot pics (http://www.dexcat.net/furfestgallery/v/FurFest+2013+-+Saturday/_MG_3859.JPG.html) are up! (He was at MFF last year... but missed both the parade *and* the photoshoot...)
P.P.P.S: (*insert comment about excessive post scripts here*)
