Less is more. I'm a big fan of the simple characters with a couple of interesting markings.

ShimCat is a plain old Tuxedo Cat with nothing special about him, other than the color of his eyes. The end of his tail is white, along with that extra stripe and his right ear. With these markings, he's still a unique character that a person can recognize despite his simplicity.

Both are nice drawings. Should do well. As said keep the characters
simple. If the character has a marking or detail that stands out. Say
a nick in a ear or color mark. Kind of like a birthmark people will
remember. It also helps the character seem more real.
