Im not realy sure where to shove this. i spent maybe 40 mins lastnight goofing off with my ipods firmware and making a little tweak.  
*ya its hard to see, i changed the do not disconect screen*
.. if thiers enught intrest i can do a how to page  '<img'>

That is pretty sweet. Did you do it using a Linux machine or is there some Windows capable software that will do it? I only know the Linux way of messing with iPods.

ACK! opps i forgot abought this post lol  mybad... ok how i did that.   <.<    >.>  i used ipodwizard to view all the image files on the ipod then resised the phi-paw to fit and replaced the do not remove sign.     The down side is i just shiped my ipod back to apple after it took a nice fall at work. So i guess ill make a turoial on how to do it when my new ipod comes in the mail in abought a week... sorry


Edit.. you can change out any image file on it y extracting is firmware then editing it.. then just use the moded firmware to upgrade your ipod.. but your lose any changes if you let itunes to repair of upgrade it.

Fair warning... I was messing around trying to make a turtial abought this lastnight when i found the ipods boot splash screen. So i found a paw print and swaped the file out..well i goofed up so how. *face paw* Its not booting, not powering up at all ughh.

Download ipodwizard and install
load the Ipods firmware
click on pictures
Scroll over till you see the do not disconect icon
youll notice the hight and with in pixles for that icon
resise you new icon to that sise and save it as a bmp
on ipodwizard click load bitmap,  find your newly resised image
last click WRITE   the edited firmware will be loaded on the ipod

your basicly safe from major goof ups as long as you dont go playing with the boot side of things. If things do go right just restor the ipod from itunes

Muchas Gracias, Twiz.  I was so eager to get moddin' that I didn't stop to think about how I would theme for foxes.  So I grabbed some old Halo stuff I had lying around (and created some new images, like the battery bar) to give it that epic space story look!



Total list of mods:
Background image (Halo and Earth)
Text color (menus and titles)
Title bar (plasma flare)
Battery bar (looks like Halo 1's health bar)
Transparent selector bar
Black Hole diagram is the new "Do Not Disconnect" icon

I'll do some homework tonight, then tomorrow perhaps I'll do a fox theme!  Thanks again, Twiz, for pointing me in the right direction.

thiers also a way to dual boot linux and apple on that thing to  '<img'>   I tried the linux  a few years back and it was good.. you could doom on the ipod SWEET!. But it didnt suport the tv out put an video..a video ipod just isnt the same with out video lol

Thanks, Paws.  What mp3 player have you got now?  I hacked a 30gig iPod Video (not a nano like the instructions indicate--he only had a nano but they work with all 5th gen iPods).

That's a classic mod with a blue/brown theme I got... sometime, I may end up putting my own background on eventually...

How did you change the colour of your selector bar?

-edit that photo isn't mine, it's the one that comes with the theme I downloaded. my selector bar is still blue and my battery meter won't decrease  ':cry:'

I've been wanting to install linux and doom and stuff on my ipod, but I'm too afraid that I'm going to brick it, and I don't currently have the cash to replace it atm.
