File Sharing on a LAN
« on: July 27, 2007, 11:12:40 pm »
I've been working on writing a book for a while now, and with my recent perchance of a laptop I've begun typing on both the desktop and my laptop. Up until now I have synchronize folders by copying the file with my story on it into my "Shared" folder and then dragging it to the other computer, thus moving it across the wireless LAN I have set up in my apartment.

I'm trying to figure out a way to make the "My Documents" folder sharable so I can access the folder on either computer FROM either computer, if that makes sense. Then I can simply synchronize the files without having to run between comps each time. I don't want to leave the entire computer open, just the one folder. Does anyone know how to do this?

I saw a setting for something of that nature myself, but I'm not sure if that's what I'm looking for. I basically want to turn both computers on and be able to open the "My Documents" folder on my laptop, from my desktop and be able to copy files back and forth over my LAN without opening the entire computer for sharing.

That function may be it, but I want to be sure before messing with anything, since Networking was always my weak point with computers.

Yeah, just right click on the folder>properties>sharing>share this folder on the network. Then Roberts your mother's brother '<img'>

That's really kinda coincidental, because I *do* have an uncle Robert on my mothers side of the family. '<img'>

Anyway, thanks for all the helps. I honestly didn't think it was going to be that simple given my experience with Windows networking. I guess I learn something new every day.

Too bad I forget two old things. >.>
