I just tried it. Apparently, this is possible. I'm using it now (and I will change it back once I'm done with this post; I do *not* like it) Simply select the mobile theme from the list of available themes in your profile.
I should mention, though, that this theme does display some images (avatars, smileys, etc.); it isn't completely "text-only".
