Guest viewing a profile?

I discovered a long time ago, that offline, you cannot view somebody's profile.  You're given this message:

Many apologies, but you can't view just any profile.

Yesterday, I saw there was a guest viewing somebody's profile.  I forgot to take a screen shot, sadly, but I'm wondering how that is possible?

It should not be possible for any "guests" to view profiles, post in threads, send PM's, etc., etc. To do any of that, they must register an account. Do you remember what the thread was or where it was located? I'll check all control settings and permissions and see if anything is wrong.

I'm not sure whose profile it was.  I really wish I could have gotten a screen shot.  Just some Guest viewing a person's profile.  Just now though, I checked if I could view my own profile offline, and it gave me the "You cannot view this" message.  What I saw yesterday was the only time I've ever seen that happen. 

(If I'm not clicking refresh on the main page 5 times a second, I'm on the "Who's Online" list.)

Could have done the same thing to be honest.

While the guests see that message it may still say they're viewing it.

Weisse is probably right.  I wonder if there's a way I could test that theory.

Shim and myself have already tested it. We couldn't replicate it.

Huh... I've noticed this weird phenomenon before as well, along with something else that might be related: occasionally, a guest's activity will be listed as "Nothing, or nothing you can see...."

Do we have any idea what "nothing you can see" means? I used to assume it happened when people were reading forums I didn't have access too, but I still see the same message on occasion as an admin.

I've seen the "Nothing, or nothing you can see...." message but as an Admin I can't think what it would be for. There's got to be something somewhere though otherwise it wouldn't come up.

This is how I replicated it:

With one computer logged out, I clicked on a member's profile.  A split second later, while on the "who's online" list, I refreshed.  When done just right, the list appears as it does above.  It is a bit hard to replicate; I only managed to do it on my first try (luckily).  I wasn't able to get it again. 

Basically, I'm not able to see the profile as a guest, but "Who's Online" sometimes says that I can.

I believe this also explains a weird message that appears occasionally on the "Who's Online" list.  Once in a while, it'll tell me that a specific member is logging on.  However, when typing info in, the compy has no clue who you are, and there's no screen between logging in and arriving at the board index.

I see that all the time.  I see "________ Logging onto the forum"  How does that work?

Odds are you click on the "Who's Online" button right after the other person has clicked the button to log in.  The information is received about the person logging in, but the computing process is happening before they actually go to the Furtopia index.  That would be my guess.
