Waves hi to all the friendly furs out there, "hello I'm Drake".

I guess I was into furry before I new a fandom or lifestyle existed.  I grew up on books like Watership Down and the Chronicles of Narnia, and a healthy dose of cartoons with anthropromorphic characters.

I was introduced to the erotic side of furry in my late teens when a friend of mine showed me a copy of Omaha the Cat Dancer.  I loved the comic, but still didn't realize their was a whole furry movement.

Move up to about four years ago.  I was searching around the web and ran into a drawing by Doug Winger.  I thought to myself, there's more of this stuff like Omaha, and started searching for every piece of furry art I could find.  Several months ago I ran into the furry webcomic Jack, and now I seem to make going through the belfry list of furry comics a daily ritual.

I read about the fandom, but being fairly shy in nature, I didn't join any of the discussion groups, mucks, or newsgroups except as an occassional lurker.  My participation in furry stayed at the find more art level and reading comics until very recently.

I found myself feeling dissatisfied with my current life, and have started working with someone to help me discover new career avenues outside corporate America.  It became clear to both of us that I needed to learn how to break out of my shell and talk with people before I could move forward.  I had wanted to participate in the furry community before, but my shyness held me back. Now it seemed like a safe place to try and break out of my shyness, especially that I could do it through the adoption of an online persona, Drake.

I'm now active on Furcadia and Tapesteries as Drake Blackpaw, and can ocasionally be found on FurryMuck as Fischer (names Drake and Blackpaw already in use).  I've also become very vocal on the Furcadia and the new unoffical FurN forums.  And I'm already registered for Anthrocon in July.  It feels that I found part of myself in expressing my furryness online.

So that's how I got here.  In real life, I'm married and live in Reston Virginia, which is a suburb of DC.  I work as a project manager at an IT consulting firm.  I play guitar and sing the occasional song in the DC area band Chaotika.  I've also started doing some writing, both poetry and prose, which I have posted elsewhere under my furry persona Drake.

Heya, Drake. Welcome to the furtopia.org forums. '<img'>

Thanks for filling us in on how you found the fandom and so on. It's often interesting to hear peoples' stories in how they got into furry. I've been part of the fandom for about 8.5 years now, but like many other furs, I was into this stuff so very long before I found this fandom.

See you around! '<img'>

Welcome to our little 'family', Drake. I think you may be coming out of your shyness/shell, just a little.  '<img'>  Great to see you here!

I too used the mucks, specifically FM, to get over being shy and getting over some other things because the computer was such a safe haven. If I didn't like the situation, I could just turn off the computer. That was that. I also learned to face things too because of that. I forced myself to always get back on-line and talk things out with the person(s) that caused me pain. Now, I don't have the need to turn off the computer.  '<img'>

All in all, we are a very friendly group here and I hope you feel comfortable chatting!

Kada-Ru, I also want to thank you for sharing with me that you also used FM to work through some issues.  I'm thinking of writing an article on the beneficial apsects of online RP with an adopted persona.  If I find a magazine or journal interested in such an article, I'll be looking for others willing to share their experiences with me.

I've already started making my way through the list of artist, writer, and musician sites of Furtopia.  There's just so many and so little time.:)

Look forward to seeing a skunk from you in the future.

Drake

Thank you, Drake Blackpaw. I won't mind putting in my two cents worth. Though I don't know how well some of the info will be greeted by the world outside of Furries. But, one can never tell!

I'll download some pics of the skunk and then sketch one for my new "theme". I think that would be cool. Thanks.

Right now, I have a pegasus, winged fox and a honey badger I added yesterday to my webpage.

Welcome Drake!  Well working on tons of things I'm late as usial.  ':p'  But it's great to have you here. '<img'>

I have been on FM a lot.  It was the place I was able to become the furson/personailty that was really me.  In society you live for what society expects and you think that makes you happy.  Online you learn what inside feels good and melding the two adopt what can make YOU happy from the inside in real life.

That's cool your going to Anthrocon.  Furtopia will be there and we are having a Furtopia pizza party to let fellow Furtopian's meet the online friendly faces and socalize in a friendly atmosphere.  Oh and to scarf pizza too.  '<img'>

Okeys, Drake... here is a sketch I did up of a "skunk". I still need to work on the face. They really don't have much of a definition to their face but I am working on it. (giggles0

(giggles) Thanks, Drake. I actually got the pose out of one of my art books. One that I normally don't use since the musculature is SO over exagerated! I toned it down a bit because of it being anthro!

I worked on the face some more and I resketched it so today I will be coloring it. I hope it turns out as well!

As I stated, Drake, I colored the pic yesterday and here is the colorized "Skunk Hunk"!

When WS suggested coloring it orange I thought he was crazy but then I also remembered that some creatures in the wild do have bright bold colors to signifiy they are poisionus so I went with that though. I do love how he turned out!

Besides, if you want it to look more like the standard mephit colouration, you can always just make the image a greyscale using Photoshop, and voila! Black and white skunk! '<img'>

(giggles) Actually, I was thinking of using the shades of black to colorize it but stayed with the bright colors. Next year I may do it another skunk but with the black and shadings of grey.

It's very citrus, yes... if that's a term to crit a piece of artwork with. '<img'>
I could picture the character being named Citrus and his spray is lemony fresh. He could work as a dishwasher at a restaurant if he had to. '<img'>
Yeah, I'm going off on a weird tangent. Don't mind me. ':p'
