CPU Temp monitor
« on: August 15, 2014, 12:20:18 pm »
I had a cpu cooling fan fail a while back. I since replaced it along with a better cooler.

What I was asking is if anyone knows of a good task bar monitor for CPU temp. I
have seen a few freebee's on the net , but does anyone know of any that  don't
have a bunch of adware tied to them.

I am using win 7pro. 64bit

I've used several programs to monitor temperatures but I don't know if any can sit in the task bar to do it. It seems this one can though: http://www.alcpu.com/CoreTemp/

Any particular reason you need to see the temp or just curiosity?

Mostly curiosity to see how different uses affect the CPU temperature.  When the fan failed the
CPU got rather hot a few times before I figgured out what was causing my computer to turn off. Since
the CPU wasn't locking up. I didn't think to check the fan more than once. Apparently the sleave bearing
was getting a little dry, causing the fan to hangup intermittently..

Fortuantly there was a safety shut off, or I likely would have had to purchase a new CPU.  That's  the
second CPU fan I've had to replace in the past 20 years.   Not the same computer though.  :D

If you're running Windows 7, I think there are some desktop widget that you can install that would show this. Not all resource monitoring widgets offer temperature displays, but I know some are out there that do.

Normally, I like a utility called 'conky' for this sort of thing, but since you're using Windows 7, that's probably not the best option.
I've heard a lot about a very similar utility for Windows called "Rainmeter" (http://rainmeter.net/), which I believe has plugins for both CPU temperature monitoring and taskbar customizations; perhaps there is a plugin that overlaps those categories.

Thanks for the response all. I did download the Core Temp monitor.  Currently it's running
at 17C with power consumption at 95 watts. A FX 6100 running at 3.3 gigahertz.

When I was running warcraft last night it peaked at 34C.. averaged around 32C.

Sooooo my new fan and cooler seem to be keeping my CPU cool.  :orbunny:
