Pretty much like the name says. We all know that if you wear a collar, you probably like the way it looks, so you dont need to add that. I think a collar is both a symbol of ownership, and also expresses an anamilistic innocence. I wear mine as an expresion of my furriness (canine after all), and also because I enjoy the feeling of the leather tight around my neck. Its texture, tightness, and smell are comforting, as if the collar was a hug from someone I loved. And yes, I would wear a leash in public, if someone carried the other end.

You do realise we already have a collar thread here, right?

Hmm.
I used to have one when my fursona was a husky wolf hybrid. It didn't have much meaning to me... It was just an accesory like ears or a tail.
I know others may have a lot more personal meaning to theirs than i did for mine, though.

To me, it's just one thing that represents furry. I don't even wear mine around my neck. I wear it on a side-belt loop so people will see it if they happen to notice.

A necklace, sure. A collar? Not for me, don't like the sensation of being choked. x_x I would feel too submissive in one, if I could put a word to it...and I just don't like the sensation of being grabbed by the throat or neck in that way. :-[ x_x

I find collars comfortable. I chose mine carefully, finding ones that I think look good on me. I've got a collection of about a dozen of the things. They're pretty common in Goth culture as well as furry, so I don't immediately stand out as a fur.
I'm not owned, but a collar tends to make people think I am. Which has the added bonus that I don't get hit on nearly as much when I'm wearing one as opposed to when I'm not. XD

well, he are a couple of things that a collar means to me.
A. That person is owned by someone else, their will is not nessecarily their own, they have given control of themselves to someone besides themself.
B. That furson is rebellious, different and proud of it, they are willing to take ridicule and social distance to express themselves.
C. That furson is always willing to try something new, reagrdless of what others say or do.
I am a wee bit too young to be wearing a collar at the moment (13), though I would if I could, so i'll answer that second part when I start wearing one, hopefully soon.

I don't wear one, but my tiger quad has a harness and leash for when he goes outside. It's pretty much a social convention to him.

A lot of people (and furries) see collars as a symbol of ownership or something of that nature. Personally, we see it as more of a fashion statement, saying that we are not afraid to be different. Besides that, it would kind of be a symbol of our status as furry, and we like the idea of them in general. That said, we will only be able to get one when we can get it independently. So now we wait... (:

A collar to me means I'm a folf that chose to live with people.

my collar holds a double purpose. for one it's a way for my master to comtrol me in intamant situations. but it is more than that for me. i's also an expression of my pride in being a furry. my school diesnt allow tails or ears, so i just wear my collar.

same for me. but I wear mine on my neck. although, the belt loop thing is a good idea

I like something around my neck (it kind of grounds me), though me / my character usually wears a kind of necklace/chain (not a choker chain) and not a collar, which is of sorts a collar in a way. Wearing a collar and a necklace/chain feels a little odd to me so I wouldn't wear a collar with something else, either ;)

mine it means im in a relationship

I have a lot of reasons why I wear a collar, originally I just wore one simply because I liked wearing them, and because they gave me a comforting feeling. Then it gained the title of protective device, as I don't like people touching my neck and have actually punched people in the face out of reflex because of it, so it's also a slight shield against random poking which would end up in me most likely breaking there fingers ... and yeah, moral of the story, don't sneak up on me and poke my neck... Later down the road it gained the meaning of "Hey I'm a Furry" as I joined the officially joined the fandom. Aside from that, it's an inside joke, as well as there are just a lot of memories involving me, my collar, and friends.

My collar is a symbol of my furryness, a link to my uniqueness, and an accessory of comfort. To me, to be without it makes me feel empty and inferior.

Well, I've just been denied the right to buy a collar from my parents, but I think it would be better to wait longer, when I've grown more into the fandom....
-
Mine is a fashion thing(Though I can't wear it out doors......or while my family is home.......)
It also represents furry^^
Hmmm, I should try wearing on my belt............. :D :D

Thanks to my Native American heritage, I have a strong spiritual connection with my spirit animal, who is a wolf :) I wear my collar in honor of her. So my collar is a spiritual reminder that she is always within me. Other than that, I like the texture of leather, and it feels comforting around my neck. Whenever I see my reflection with it on my usually low self-esteem gets boosted. :)
-
To me it is like a ID

I have a collar that I do wear from time to time, but it isn't for any personal reason. It's generally for my Resident Evil OC who wears a collar because it gives her some protection from someone slipping a shock collar around her neck (there's a long story about it that I'm not gonna go into).
-
personally, to me it seems more like a symbol of submission... but that's just me.
-
My collar to me is a symbol that I have an owner, and he lives miles away so it also makes me feel closer to him :)
-
My collars means to me, that i'm part of a wolf pack. Also its protects me from being harrased by someone. I not afraid being different too.
I wear my collar, because I like the sound the collar make when I ran, its make feel i'm belong somewhere.
Also the collar.... is like representing me.

I agree to all of this...I feel my collar just represents me as a whole...a d it makes me feel good when I wear it :)
-
I agree with all of those...but I think of a fourth option.
They ffel like they have someone who cares very deeply about someone else and wear that as a kind of commitment.

I now ware a bandana and dog tags on chain (lost my chain in an airsoft game i need to find a chain under $10 2 cents welcome)once in a blue moon red and black paracord colar
-
I wear my newest collar because I forgot my other one at a convention, and a friend at a con gave me one of hers, so I wear it to honor our friendship. Because ... it made me really happy that they gave me one of theirs... and well I won't lie it does have a rather calming sent left by the previous owner ^^;;; heh

i would try to wear one so i could engage in a conversation 8)
