I was gonna try a tail, but i know i'd be stabbed where i lived :DYea I have been meaning to ask you about that, duffman, where the heck do you live? Sounds like a pretty rough place.

chavs?
Sounds really dangerous. That Wikipedia definition reminds me of some of those kids over in Mansfield and stuff, driving around shooting people. Nothing as dangerous as your place sounds though, you guys be careful. I say instead of increasing police force budgets they should be increasing their school budgets, teach these kids something.

They choose to be like it lol. They always start fights and stuff, like in our fave night club, a load of chavs came in, to start a big fight (its an emo/goth club). They just abuse people, so its fair if you slug them in the mouth (:
have any of you guys ever run into "trouble" cause you were wearing your collar?I dont wear collar, but if i did i would get in trouble. its just the nature of my area. i cant see any real problem, coz you dont have any chavs near you. the max you'd get, i'd say, is a couple of snide remarks, and many odd looks :D.
I have one with my fursona's names on it (Orla and Ixis)
I wear it wherever and whenever. Some people comment on it, ask what the names mean and where I got it, I've have no negative reactions.

Sweet collar, where did you get it? Or did you make it yourself?
I wear a collar (my mates) every day with any out fit (unless its a job interview) I see nothing wrong with it. If you are comfortable, have at it. dont let others tell you youre an idiot for wearing one. (just thought id throw that in there (: )True words, but I personally don't think I'd be up to wearing a collar, not utill I found a mate anyway.

I have often considered buying a collar, but then I think, "Why wear a collar? I'm a wild fox, not a pet!"
i have never really worn a collar. but i would if i was at a con. but really its not my thing. but like a say what ever floats your boat my friend. my thoughts sometimes wonder what would happen if i was in the military and put my dog tags on a dog collar. i keep hearing drop and give me 50. lol :ordragon: :ordragon: :goldlaugh: :D

I never thought I'd like wearing collars either... I own three of them now. XD And I like your dogtag idea! I might borrow that... get some duplicates of my dad's and wear them in his memory. He knew I was eccentric, had no idea what furry is, but he knows I'm put my heart into it, and for that he would be proud. :3
thats really sweet of you. i think your dad yould be honored. is he a veteran
Yes he was.Sorry to hear that....
well I just got my collar today.
Plan A of having my parents get it for me as a "joke gift" failed so I went with plan B and just went out and bought my own :) at the local dollar store.
It's black nylon with a sorta tribal pattern to it. It's actually really comfortable. I've yet to even tell my parents I got one yet. I just don't have the patients to explain to them why I bought it. there still getting used to me wearing my fox ears, so I'll give it some time.
I'm probably going to eventuallt get a tag that says "Hayaikawa" on it.
I used to think why would I wear a collar I'm an Anthro Arctic Kitsune, but hey it was only $3, it looks really nice, and I'm growing to like it a lot. :)
A local pet shop is about a 15 minute walk from where I live, and I might just go down there tomorrow to get one. Nice and simple. How I would explain it to my parents on the other hand... not so simple.
...Ideas, anybody?

well you could just explain to them that it's just like any other weird fashion out there. heck look at thew crazy outfits the movie actors are wearing and the models.
(well that might be a bad example but you get my point)
also explain to them that it's just a collar and nothing more, stress the fact that it has ZERO sexual aspect to it, that might be one of the big things your parents will think, they might not tell you but there thinking it.
Well, big update. I just told my mom about the fandom and everything. I showed her the "what is furry" page from the Anthrocon website and some Goldenwolfen art. Amazingly, she was okay with it. She dabbles in art history, so she showed me some art books with some anthropomorphic art. She was quite excepting, but she certainly detected a sexual element to it. Best of all, she said she was fine with a collar! I have a letter steel stamp set, so I'm gonna get a blank tag and Hammer "Nicholai" into it! :) 8)
Well, I just got my collar! It's black with silver markings. I posted a pic of it under "Re: Post a IRL pic of yourself here!!!" thread.

Nice collar, Darkblast! Loving the design! I also like your necktie too :D
Thanks, Wolf paw! The tie is made by BATSU, but they went out of business some time ago. :(
Here is another shot of the collar (and the tie.) http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w239/darkblast93/IMAG00201.jpg (http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w239/darkblast93/IMAG00201.jpg)
Yah, you people where right, after a while you just forget your wearing it. I lied to the kid at the pet store and told I had a dog with a neck about the size of mine. :D
Lol, Darkblast, I noticed that the tag on your collar is a little bit off-center. Mine has a clip on the left front side, just like yours, and I always find that no matter how hard I try to center the tag, it always wanders to the right. Do you have this problem? Does anyone?
I just brought my collar to school for the first time today, and I was surprised by how many positive reactions I got. The teachers where fine with it, and only two people gave me a hard time. While a few people thought it was strange, most liked the idea, and thought it was original, no explanation of the fandom required.
So I wore mine to school today. ^^ I had a hard time from a couple people too, but my friends really liked it. I had some guy teasing me all day that "Oh did you forget the leash at home?" I ignored them though. :D

:D with comments like that i would just respond with
"yes i did :P"
there reactions are always very funny.
LOL
I have a 2 black ones and 2 brown ones. Just so they match my belt/shoes.
If i see one i like i buy it :D
I have one collar. I only really wear out it when I am at a friends place or something like that. I do wear it around the dorm a lot, and to class a few times but not that much. You should have told him "It takes a gay to know what looks gay"
Haven't really had anyone comment on it actually, except one dude at AWA that hit on me by saying something about my collar :o and one friend that said it was cute. Well, and the idiot in my old youth group at church that said it "looks gay"...never really got along with him anyway...
You should have told him "It takes a gay to know what looks gay"
You should have told him "It takes a gay to know what looks gay"
I slapped his hand away when he tried to actually TAKE IT OFF ...the nerve of some people!... and told him "it's more old-school freak." And left it at that.
I was not going to start the "takes one to know one" bit...although I thought about it. I mean honestly, I don't personally know any other guys that wear a collar, let alone gay guys. So, I don't even see where he got that from. Then he had the nerve to ask me for a couple quarters the next day during lunch...
Just this Friday one kid grabbed my collar, and said to one of his friends, "This is is alter yiff persona, he's a furf*g." :'( I've learned to deal with him, but he seems to become more and more physical by the week. You should have told him "It takes a gay to know what looks gay"I slapped his hand away when he tried to actually TAKE IT OFF ...the nerve of some people!... and told him "it's more old-school freak." I'm not saying to do this.
but if some one did and said that to me.
I would have reacted a little more violently.
People who do that aggravate me to no end, and i usually react in a way that speaks to them, if ya know What I mean.
*BAM*
My collar is black with a gold tag that says "Wolf" (my assumed human name). I'm looking to get 2 more: a white one with a green, hexagonal tag (displaying my furry name), and a red one with a gold tag that says "Brian Griffin." :D
Recently, I've gotten so many weird and disgusted stares from the lesser-intelligent members of my college (and some curious ones from the more respectful). Man, living in Miami is sometimes a bother.
But I have to admit, it's not always annoying. To a new group of friends, my furriness revealed in the most convenient way possible, through a question concerning my collar.
Man where do you people find such cute collars anyway? :D Do you get them from specialty pet stores, or order them offline?
Man where do you people find such cute collars anyway? :D Do you get them from specialty pet stores, or order them offline?
Many people get them from Collar Factory. But they're on the expensive side (in my opinion as someone who rarely wears one and doesn't feel they're terribly important in the whole furry scheme).
Mine I got from Walmart (the pink/purple one) and Target (the strawberry one). Both places usually have cute, seasonal stuff. Target and Walmart both had holiday collars for Christmas. And collars for Halloween. You just have to poke around a bit and search.
I don't see collars that are nearly as cute at the pet stores, though.
hmm are collars itchy. and can they irritate your neck
Posted by: kaiyoki
I'm seeing about getting one tomorrow on the way to Someone's house, all I have to do now is not talk myself out of buying it. Nervous about wearing it in public though...
hmm are collars itchy. and can they irritate your neck
If you get just a normal leather collar, just shower with it a few times and it will get soft. They do have somewhat of a break in period.
Agreed. When I first got my collar it bothered me for a bit, but after about 3 days you just forget your wearing it. Then people start giving you funny looks when you have no idea why. :D

i never thought i'd buy a collar but when i did i did'nt want to take it off!

Yah, I've developed a bit of a collar security complex. I the only time I take it off is when I'm in the shower. When we put on a play for drama this Thursday (I got around 5 complements the next day from random people, so whooho, me!) , I had to take it off, I kind of freaked out about it. :D

one of my best friends says he is gonna buy one and ware it. i am scared i just converted him into a furry. what have i done. lol :D :D :D :goldlaugh: :goldlaugh: :orraccoon:hmm are collars itchy. and can they irritate your neckLikeda depends on which one you buy. more resently it's probably one of the first things i put on in the morning and one of the last things i take off at night. Weekends only sadly, my school has a strict uniform policy

You take it off at night? The only time I take it off is when I take a shower.
well aside from sleeping with my collar on I did sleep with my tail on the other night.
so soft and furry, like sleeping next to a long cat :D
It all depends on your style. I wear a lot of accessories on me all the time so I wouldn't feel out of character with one on.would not put it past you dude. i am taking a picture when you ware one
and this guy still hasn't gotten a collar...nor a tail...
i'd think my parents would know by now (my dad is a facebook freak, and i joined the furry fandom group, but he just doesn't seem to notice all the little stuff) seriously, once i get out of that damned closet (i think the doorknob fll off :( ) i'm getting a collar...

I've had a lot of experience with this, so grab the doorknob and open! Most parents are very accepting, but keep your best judgment in mind. Most likely it won't turn out to be too much of a disaster, but there is still a chance it will end it tears and a new topic in the "life problems & help" section. The collar is always a good way to start the discussion, that's how I did it.
hey collars a a fashon statement. so don't let them insults get to ya. id ware one for fun. and there is a girl who wares one everday. she has many styles including a dog one. no one gives her looks so don't let it get yousa down Kudos *hugs kudos tight*
Hayaikawa: Candid camera or it didn't happen!
Kudos: *Blushes slightly* Thank you....
Dragore: Kind of. In my experience, most people think of the goth-y leather chokers with the spikes as fashion statements. I just have a plain, nylon, silver and black collar with a tag. If people start assuming things, they most likely come to the conclusion that I had a dog that died. :D
*hugs tight and nuzzles* no prob man ware whatever the heck you want as long as it is within law in public
With collars (Be it nylon on leather chokers) there is also an element of style that contributes to how outsiders/mundanes see the collar. If I was to Dawn some Marilyn Manson eyeliner, leather jeans and a ripped denim top, A dog collar of sorts wouldn't seem too out of place. But when, like me, you dress in a formal black button-up shirt and jeans, people are more likely to make note of on out-of-place fashion accessory like a collar or choker. The more you juxtapose everyday clothes with something as socially unorthodox as a collar, the more people are going to notice. (And there's nothing wrong with that, I've started up a lot of good conversations about the fandom by people asking about my collar.)
i have never worn a collar in my life. to be truthful. and i might never do so. my friend saud he is getting me one with custom tags. but i most likely am gonna hook it to my school bag. but hey i like making people happy *nuzzles and stops hugging*
yay for wierd family members LOL
well i wasnt just wearing my collar, i was also wearing my fox hat as well as just some bright and fun clothes (:
when my older sister (who is usually really uptight freaked out(well not really but it was obvious she was wierded out by the hat and collar XD ))
plus
when i was walking out of the hotel im staying at, i had to walk past a large group of people and they were all talking amongst each other and as i walked by they all stoped and watched my walk by intently, and after i had [asted them my family followed and overheard alot of laughs and giggles.
which i just get akick out of anyway :D
plus i explained furry to my older sister and older brother and they didnt really care(I.E. there fine with it)
so yay :)
fun day today
i wear my collar when ever i can, though not out of the house ( i'd probably be beaten the [censored] out of )
FurFoxart: Where do you live!??! :oi wear my collar when ever i can, though not out of the house ( i'd probably be beaten the [censored] out of )

trust me, she would have noticed, and i wear my collar fairly high, and not loose on my neck. it sits snugly on my neck.
also, you were probably directing that to FurFoxart and not me.
i don't have a problem with wearing it most places, but were i to run into someone from school, i have a slight reputation that is hard enough to hold onto without being made into something that i am not. i am big enough to handle myself if things go sour, but it isn't me who i worry about should that be the case. since i am a geek, my friends are geeks, and most are pretty on the far side of scrawny. anyway though, i enjoyed that time, and i still dont dare wear my collar in front of my parents because they already get rubbed the wrong way when they think about my atheism. it just wouldnt be a good situation from then on out.

don't blame u their, do what u gotta do, I myself am pretty fed up worring about other ppls ( often stupid and narrow minded) opinions. Havn't really cared for a while now, however the collar thing was the one thing i held back a bit from the public, but as u can see me new one is red and vibrant, and i don't really care what ppl have to say about it.
i choose it cause its me fur colors, and it draws attention (red is the most noticiable color on the color wheel)

True enough, though, while i don't really care about most peoples' opinions, the opinions of my close friends matter, and i don't want to lose them to the close-mindedness that whey were brought up with. in Oklahoma, peoples minds are pretty stubborn even when the times change as much as they do.
as a side note, i chose blue for several reasons, one, green was already take by a friend of mine because he likes green better, 2, my computer emits blue light, 3, my eyes are bright blue (most of the time), and 4, i like blue almost as much as green. the black is there to make the blue stand out, and because it would look too bare if tie blue was only there alone. and it gave something for the black lambskin lining to be attached to, and it is so soft! makes wearing the collar very comfortable indeed.
see i have a plan for a joke in my collage. see the collage i am going to has a dress code. you have to have a shirt with a collar. s i am gonna put a collar on and say dose this count. lol i find it kinda funny my self

Awesomeness.
I used to wear a collar all the time when I was a wannabe punk/goth guy and thought it was pretty comfortable. If I could think of a way to explain it to my mom I'd totally get a new collar from Petsmart or that Collar Factory site.

If you can afford it, I recommend the Collar Factory site, or really any place that markets human collars, if only because they design their collars with human's in mind, so they are much more comfortable.
Dog collars are extremely comfortable, I love mine. ^_^
the collar factory one is very cumfy as well, set me back $51.82 :D but worth it.

i har ya on the friend issue XD, lucky for me I only have 1 friend to worry (as in 1 friend period haha) about and he's usually always working XD. so it usually comes down to weather or not its appropiate.
BTW nice collar! defiantly digging it (course i like mine more, but thats to be expected) though dark blue doesn't really stand out against black, given its a dark on dark relationship, however, its most likely the most senseable option ^_^.

Seesh, I think I spent $6 on my nylon collar, plus another six for engraving. And hey, for $12 bucks, I love my collar, despite the occasional "woof" comments. :D

See, I always hear about people reacting to collars that way, but I am yet to have it happen. Maybe it is just the fact that I wear it in a college town? Or is it just that mine is a standard dog collar from Wal-Mart? :D
Yeah, I would think that the dog collar would make a difference, but still...no one even really notices. And if they do, they never look at me weird or say anything.
Yeah, idk...maybe they just don't really think about since I have a red "fro" and such. I already am not exactly the most subtle person when it comes to looks. haha
I sometimes try for weird looks, it is fun! :D
oh thats kool, then they probably dismiss it as a style, as appose to something that sticks out

Very likely. :)
like i said the girl at my school wares one amung other types. i kinda want one because i can use it to hang my keys and stuff maby a flash drive. lol i can see practical uses for them
I've Just commissioned a custom collar so I'll have one to wear soon :D
I'm probably not going to be wearing it daily though, as I cant wear it at work, and probably wont wear it at college, mainly because I haven't been in the habit of wearing anything out of the ordinary, and might not be the best place to start wearing that kind of thing, as its a technical college and id probably stand out more than id like to (not much goths etc there unlike the main college where it would hardly be noticed).
I'll stick up some pictures once i get it.
I wear one most every day, and have received no negative comments. In fact, few people take notice or even comment.

I wear it everywhere, no problem. I've had it for a couple months now. It's nice.
You might be surprised. I only began wearing mine last semester, after two years of not having one, and it turned out well enough. I would argue that collage is a great place to reinvent yourself, because you are not constrained with all your friends from high school.
what do you guys think of a dragon with a collar on. lolI say, why not? ;)

I was thinking on getting a collar myself. It's going to have to be one of the Petsmart ones, but when I get a better job I was looking at one from the Collar Factory. Is there a way to preview some prices on them before I buy?
Collars! When is it okay to wear them?
I actually, finally, had someone notice and comment on my collar today! :D
It was in the cafeteria I always eat at, and I was getting a cup of hot chocolate. The lady that works at the coffee bar noticed it and told me I need a nametag! :) She said she only really noticed because a friend of her's is a fur and wears a collar and nametag.
I think I might go get one...would be fun! ;)
Having a custom tag turns it from a dog collar you're wearing into YOUR collar.
Having a custom tag turns it from a dog collar you're wearing into YOUR collar.
Seconded! I love my custom tag! It has my fursona's name and species, and doesn't stick out too much. It does jingle a lot when I run, though. Any solutions?
they actually sell little rubber things that wrap around the edges at the store i bought my tag at, but personally i like the jingle.
I took mines off and started to wear mines in my wrist like a bracelet. To me I think that is more comfortable.
i saw at walmart a collar that i would love to have. it had paw prints on it. it was a medium size one. i think it might look silly on me. but hey it is still cool :D :D :D 8)
I just got myself my first collar the other day. It's actually from The Collar Factory. They sure get a lot of business out of us furries, don't they? Has anyone else noticed that in the forums on their website, they have a whole section for Furries?

No Way! I didn't know we where that popular! :D I would love to get one of those snazzy leather collars with the buckle and everything, but I have more important ways to spend money. (Just blew $60 on a new CPU heatsink for my computer.)

You know what I bet it is? We're really not that numerous, we're just persistent. Kinda like cockroaches. You don't really see a whole lot of them (except at gatherings), but they're impossible to get rid of. They're always there.
I had to stop wearing my collar in public, recently. I dunno what it is about where i live but every seems so hostile lately. Anyways, i've had quite a few people yank on my collar and a few people have pushed me...I guess i do look wierd in my Urahara cap, Geta, Collar, and necklaces but i wish people would be more accepting. So till people cool down here i cant wear my collar. =(You sound like quite a character! Hold your head high, and be proud to be unique! If someone pokes fun at you, call them out on their BS! Don't let the mental myopia of the closed-minded ruin your fun!
Yeah I dont know about ever really wearing a collar, it would just look really wierd on me and I think other people would also look at me differently and it could mess with getting the job I want when I get older which is becoming a physisist. But then again maybe I could wear a collar on my own time and perhaps add like a dog collar tag with my name on it........ehh I dont know that already sounds really wierd.
lol i even hang my room key from it.
It all really depends on the area. Im in jacksonville (AKA, Red Neck New York). Whenever I wear my collar out here, I get lots of different responces. I have nasty remarks, complaments, questions, and I have even been Flshed a few times :-[ . If I wear it here, its a mixed quiry of emotions. If I wore it in Yulee, I'd probably be hung from a tree. on the other hand, If I wore it in Fernandina, No one would give a rats tush.
Being that I am in the service. I dont think I can get away with wearing it no more. not atleast with out my contract getting cut. :P
I wonder if we furries will ever enjoy the bliss of acceptince. :'(

JAX!! lol! I used to live there. I lived right near Regency. Wore a collar one to the Regency area Wal Mart. No one seemed to notice when I wore it, the one I wore was a plain black with white paw print one though, and fairly skinny so it isn't very obvious. I just wear a Phi Paw and assorted coyote buttons now.
I actually miss Jax.

Lol I've lived all over jacksonville. west side, south side, north, all. Im off of DUNN Ave right now. I cant wait to ship out. Il be going to Great Lakes IL. for boot camp and "A" school. Jacksonvilles nice and all except for all the gangs.

Haha, careful you might end up back at Mayport.. XD I have lived on University Blvd North (across from the university near Merril Rd), and on Monument near Regency. Jacksonville isn't so bad. Where I moved to is actually a lot worse. I'm scared to death to walk around some places here for fear of being shot by "farmers" if you know what I mean. I live in an area with the highest concentration of those farms in the world. Cops are very corrupt here as well (even worse than Jax). I wont stay here forever though. I'm only here for college and then I will save up some money and move to where there is more work and not a near 20% unemployment level and close to 40% poverty rate..

Lol Im going in as a Fleet Marine Force Corpsmen (FMF). Hopefuly Il be placed with a recon unit, or Anphibiouse assolt unit. Then I'l retire to the US NS Mercy.
Lol the nicest place I have ever lived was, Ashville North Carolina. Its a real artsie area, Lots of old hippies. You could wear a Collar, Tail and Ears. And no one would say a thing. Then again you could walk around in the Green Man suit. And people would'nt even give you a second glance ha ha ha. :D I love that place. and there is virtualy no crime. ( I guess because everyones so creative and free ha ha ).
I live near Duffman
Your grandmother's funeral? Erm... maybe not so much... :-[
where I'm from there are a lot of goth/emo/scene kids who wear collars of every shape and size..My advice to them is there are some nice looking and sturdy collars for ten dollars and up at pet smart. That's where I bought my red spiked collar and it has never once broken ripped or anything. real leather and looking good to this day <3
Good luck in the Navy. We need good Corpsmen out here. You guys do an amazing job taking care of us (not to mention putting up with our crap). Even if you don't get placed with those crazy recon guys or with the amphib. guys chances are you'll go somewhere interesting.

Being in the service limits my collar wearing a lot as well. My mate enjoys seeing me wear it around the house and public away from the military community. She says it's because I'm her wolf :-[
Bought this at Big Lots for $3 last week:Got to love the basic collars, right? I personally like simple basic collars like that way more then other collar styles.
It isn't for me though. :P More of a 'gift'.
I honestly wonder if it's a good idea to bundle all collar threads together as, to me at least, it seems like going to a forum of one specific game and bundling it all together in "[gamename] discussions" even though there are a lot of different things to discuss about in one game. But well, will have to trust the mods on this one and hope it works out.

Hmmm, I'm honestly kind of interested on how this will look on a Plushie, haven't seen one with a collar before ._.
Hehe cool, I don't think my plushie will mind the pokey part though. ;)

hehe ^.^
thats the same kind of collar i have,
and mine cost like $10.00 >.<
its very nice, only problem is the inside of the collar has burnt nylon on it and you need to cut off the design thing on the inside or it is extreamly pokey to your neck : /

Hehe...sorry to just burst into the thread. This is now the main collar thread though, so I figure that I could ask my lil collar-related question here.
I'm not sure what size I should be getting for a best fit. The circumference of my neck is approximately 36 cm (A bit over 14 inches). For best comfort and fit, what would be a good size of collar? And if I am to order online or search by breed (canine), which breed would I be able to pull off as?
I don't want anything skin-tight, but I don't want it too large either. I appreciate all help I can get. ^_^
whats the difference or reason to have custom ones made? isn't it possible to just walk into a pet/pet supplies store and find one?

Another note, does anyone ever feel odd when they go to a pet store and you need to try it on before you take it home? When I was buying my new collars, I would look over and make sure no one was watching me. >.>; But I got self conscious and just guessed the sizes (ending up in me buying 2 collars that didn't fit/I didn't like x.x).
Well, I walked into a petsmart. Its a lot harder to find something plain, without a design on it...

That's true, but keep in mind if you buy one made to be worn by a human, it will be more comfortable.
Well, everyone cooled down with my collar now, after I was barked at by teachers/students. (Yeah, I've been wearing it for a month and now there barking <o.o>)
After being called gay so many times I just finally told them I was Bi. That was Friday, it seemed to stop their fun. I don't know how long it will last but it was just getting annoying to hear people say I just like men for having a strap of leather laced around my neck. >.>
Met a random furry out of town. None here though, she knew exactly what it stood for, it surprised me. Especially considering she was a stranger I got to talk to. (I love strangers.)
That just proves how naive some people are in my town. Actually, no one knows what a furry is here. So everyone is just pitifully ignorant. So the first thing they come up with is calling me gay.
Did anyone else get that? Or is it just my crappy town.
(Oh, and it was all the men calling me gay, except for my Lesbian Assistant Manager at work. All of the school girls have given me complements. @.@ Yeah I know...)
I've got a bit of a problem when it comes to collars. I think about wearing them sometimes, but my fursona is a wolf, and the whole thing I have with furry is being wild and unconstrained, and while collars can represent furry for others, I don't think it would show what I like about being a furry. I've tried to think about something else to wear that would be better suiting, but I can't think of anything.
Or am I just thinking too much :D

Yes they do. (http://www.exoticcatz.com/specieslynx.html)
Now I get to do a Newsletter report on Collars in Windows App 2.
Just thinking about all the reasons I wear mine for makes me realize how people could find it a strange thing, although my interests of being a pet do not conspire with Bondage, except for that one way of ownership.
a wild life tracking ear tag, lol
after a couple weeks now (just got back from my choir trip to washington D/C), I walk through the door, my mother words are "HI! HOW WAS THE TRIP :D?!???!!!...you're still wearing that stupid thing?".
I just didn't know what to say
I don't wear mine often anymore, but when I do, all my mom says is something like "it looks silly" or such. She don't really care.
I never wear around my Pops. I don't really know what he would say.
I wanted to share a picture of my collar.
I hope that works. I am not good with this sort of thing. ^-^
My mate gave me this collar for Giftmas. Its white leather with purple stitching, purple lambskin on the inside, and purple studs. As far as I can tell the studs are just coloured glass. The hardware is black and it buckles. It's more of a D/s thing than a furry thing, although the collar is part of my fursona design. Which is funny, because my boyfriend doesn't care at all about furry stuff and so my fursona doesn't have a relationship that would parallel my real life relationship.
can we see a pic of it sky :D?
:o *blinks*
is that just a small button? or is that really on the collar?
ok cool man. dose the collar irritate your neck. and do you think one like yours would irritate my neck. and can i find one with paw prints on it
I have a button maker..I might have to put a "Glomp Me" on my backpack"
i will get a much better pic tomorrow. it has little paw prints on the buckle.
my friends know I'm a fur, and yesterday, an interesting convo between me and a friend..
Her: Hey, I'm planning on putting a collar and leash on joe tomorrow..is that okay? (Joe is her boyfriend)
Me: What? Why?
Her: ..Its a joke >.>..sorry, I didn't want to offend you..
Me: Its not offensive
Her: ??
Me:......I approve.
I used to wear collars more frequently. It's unprofessional now, so I don't. Except for my choke chain, which is easily hidden under a shirt.
Yeah I was considering getting a bell, Collar Factory has almost anything you would expect for a collar so of course they have nice shiny bells but to me it seemed a little to kitty-ish, and everyone would be calling me cat boy instead of a dog. At least they're close ya know?
In the meanwhile I've been secretely wearing my dog's collar from time to time when I'm at home alone :D
Expensive, Parents paranoid about online shopping, and my parents can't STAND my collar for ANYTHING. they're okay with me being a fur, of what little vagueness they know about it, but me trying to bring it into real life? No way.My parents will do just about anything to stop me from wearing a collar in public, which rules out buying a fancy one from the collar factory, but if they don't see it I can usually get away with wearing my dog's spare one.
I just got of those little cat bells to stick on my collar. :) Now everyone knows when I enter a room from my giveaway "jingle-jangle." :D
I got myself a collar
:)
It's just a plan black one.
It was a little too small for my dog, but it fit me quite snuggly.
Though, I wouldn't mind getting one of those fancy ones from the collar factory.
I think my dream collar would be one with Celtic knots on it.
:D
Ah well.

I wouldn't be able to stand wearing a bell. It'd drive me crazy. x_x
I wear mine most of the time except when I think I maybe shouldn't, like, I probably wouldn't wear it to a job a interview or situation where it may make someone make a bad pre-judgement about me or whatever. I've not really had many comments about it - I wear a fair bit of black anyway so it probably seems fairly "normal" with my taste in what I wear.
If someone dislikes you and then dislikes you even moreso because of something like a collar, it really seems a bit pathetic of them to me. But some people are just like that I suppose.
OMG i am so happy ^^ i got a little dog bone tag for my collar :D Guess my trip to Florida wasn't so bad since i got a tag for my collar! XD
It just says "Cakez the Husky" :D
I want to make my own tag out of some of the thousands of out of date rabies tags I got from work.Err... Rabies is carried by saliva, and dogs tend to chew on things... I wouldn't risk it.

What my mother said was implying, is that she knew it was furry, but thinks its going to ruin my life if it gets outside of the internet.
I... have collars for my neck. Really pretty ones...
I... have collars for my neck. Really pretty ones... but I don't wear them outside the house because I'm very closeted about my furriness.
I think I want to try finding a small cat collar and wrapping it around my wrist or ankle...? I'm a tiny person, though (I can wear a cat collar around my neck... :o ) think that would work?
Do you have an pics of your collars?(http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc4/hs280.snc4/40360_418337667290_602797290_4865258_3658687_n.jpg)
I have been looking for said collar for quite a while, but I cannot find one :EGo to Petsmart or Petco or a similar pet supply chain, they'll have cat collars there. :3

How should I get my collar like how should I ask my parents for one.
How should I get my collar like how should I ask my parents for one.
Whatever you do, don't do it like I did.
I bought it with a friend (we were going somewhere anyway) and then my parents noticed it one day. Then, I had to explain the entire fandom, and to this day, neither of them can stand it.
But it's been growing on me. Problem is, getting one. I'm not old enough to drive, so if I ever go anywhere it's with my parents. Also, I'm short on money, and seeing as my parents don't leave me alone for more then 20 minutes there would be no time to even use it.
And if they found out, I would have to explain the entire fandom, and then... Who knows what might happen. They would ask where I got it and why, and I don't even know where I would start... Let's just hope that never happens. Any help?
tell them "furry" is just like anime & cosplayers. basically, we attend a giant anime convention dressed up as our favorite characters, but instead of anime, its cartoon characters based on animals.
I'm 14. Also, I don't really have any friends in the area, so I'm in the house nearly all the time. I'm not very social - heck, as I type this my parents have friends over and they are hanging out in the living room, and I'm sitting in here typing away. So they try to connect whenever possible - they don't just leave me alone for hours on end or anything. I guess that's a good thing, but... Well, I'm kind of in a strange situation with this. I could hide it and face them when they find out (They will eventually, no way around it), or just tell them off the bat. Problem is, I don't know which is worse.
Guys, I'm flailing my arms around right now! I'm so happy! They posted the preview picture on their forum, and I got an e-mail saying that it's shipped!!

I now have my first collar! I made this one myself out of 550 paracord. It's actually really comfortable.

Oooooo, fancy i must know how you made it >:D
thinkin bout wearin a collar myself i dont think anyone would notice or even care if i did
Kenny / Mr. Apple: Yep, It's pretty much the same way you make a survival bracelet. Modified slightly for the buckle and closing off the end that isn't attached to anything. Paracord is pretty inexpensive too, I got 100 feet for around $10. I think it works well as a collar because it doesn't scream that it IS a collar, so I can wear it practically everywhere.
Here's a link to where I learned the weave from. http://www.instructables.com/id/How-to-make-a-Paracord-Rescue-Belt/
My dad just started to notice that i am wearing a collar
next step is to try to explain to him the fandom
i'm treading on thin ice x_x :D
One thing I'll probably start doing is wearing my collar around my wrist just above my watch. Wearing it on my neck just felt kinda weird and I didn't enjoy it too much, so wearing it around my wrist should be enough I think. The only people who'll really notice that it's a dog collar are people who come into close contact with me, i.e. my friends, and they're really the only ones I want to know about my furryness.... Doesn't that kinda defeat the point of it being a collar? :P
Plus, my flame collar goes awesome with my Viva la Revolution! DDR shirt.

The reason I wear it is to show my fascination with animals. I don't need everyone to know that, so if only my friends notice that it's a collar then that's what I want. Sure it loses some of its effect, but still, I like how it looks around my wrist. :D
has anybody seen anything like this?!?!?!
http://www.batterybarn.com/nnd03.htm
I NEEDS TO HAVE :D
Can't picture myself wearing one... plus I don't feel like making a statement that will just attract attention I don't crave.
where can i get a tail?
there is a store in my school that sells various things with the logo on them
I'm thinking about getting a collar from there :D
Ok, the title might be misleading to some but this is aimed at people who refrain from wearing collars/tails etc because of various "social" reasons such as being embarrassed, bullied etc./color]
OK, so there is a furry meet that I go to every Tuesday. We meet up at a different restaurant every Tuesday (something semi cheap) and then we go to the dollar savers theater to see a movie (only $2.25 on Tuesdays) Well I have been going for a few months now but this time (few weeks ago) Someone showed up I have not met before. apparently this person use to go a lot but ever since he met his mate, He had stopped going. Well when I seen him, I noticed that he had on a collar! He was just chillin eating his burrito with his girlfriend. I wanted to ask him so bad about it. I wanted to ask how often he wore it, if he ever had dirty looks...etc
I never commented on it or said anything but ever since then I have had an obsession with collars! I think there so awesome! I want one so bad! I have been going to pet stores and department stores looking at dog collars. I wanted to try some on right there but I am shy. So the links bellow are the collars that I currently like but since I can only buy one
(my first one :D) Also the collar actually changes what dog tag I get as well :P

In the picture above, I like the blue one (a favorite) and I also like the pink one a little bit as well
So what do yah think? Even if I get one I am still shy about my furriness. Even though that one fur wore a collar to the Tuesday even, I am still a little scared of wearing on out in public myself. Something inside me though is saying that it is important that I do. I don't want to care about what others think of me. I am just worried about if I accidentally run into someone who I know (since no one I know knows that I a furry) and have to explain to them why I have a collar on. :P
I have never worn a dog collar before so I am not sure what it will feel like. When i was playing with it on the pet store ( while I was wishing I had the bark to try it on in the isle) it felt really smooth. It didn't feel like it would itch but I gues (again) I didn't have the guts to try it on in the store. What if i wash it first, will that help? Or is it the edges that make it Itch? Juat curious. On a side note, you know you are furry when you get excited in yhe collar isle of a pet store! :D you know your a furry when you are in love with different collars and cant choose one! Lol :D
So tell me what you think? which one should be my first collar? :D

My current two favorites is the Blue and green collars with dog bones and the blue collar with the silver paw prints on it. I would get a plain silver dog bone tag for either collar. I really like the pink to but don't know. what do yah think? kato needs his collar and I can't decide. I want to go to the store right now and try them on but I can't get myself to do it.
I wasn't sure whether to post this here or start a new topic but I was wondering
"When isn't it socially acceptable to were a collar in public?"
Now before people start saying;
"Well it's not deemed Socially Acceptable anyway etc."
I mean when do YOU think it's time to take it off? For example Work, School, social gatherings etc.?
How do I explain to my folks that I have a collar?
They don't know yet.. ;S
I want this collar http://www.shop4pet.net/Bone_Latigo_Dog_Collar_Blue-1290.html
Or this one http://www.feedagg.com/feed/131880/Leather-Dog-Collars
(The Latigo Flat Leather Dog Collar)
That kind of... presumes stuff about said parents.I agree with Avan. For the past ten years I always had a choke chain hanging on my wall. Never knew my parents noticed it but they just didn't say anything. If I knew they were so okay with it I would have started wearing collars publicly when I was a little younger.
Maybe they already know she's a furry or something :P
I bought my collar at Wal-Mart, and it's a simple black one with a D-ring for a leash or whatever :) and i typically wear it around school. When my parents found out about the had a fit (they're not exactly accepting of new things), but other than that all I've gotten are a few "that collar is stupid" from some furry haters (there's actually a facebook gruop if anti-furries specifically at my school (with only two members :D)) and a LOT of "um.... why are you...?" :) But I can't wear it when I'm out with my family, or even around the house -.-' but it's whatever. once i graduate it'll be all good. (by the way i LOVE those collars with the fuzzy stuff inside them) but the only part that chafes too bad is where the nylon is melted together.
I just use duct tape XD and it works well enough. but i like the felt idea better :)I bought my collar at Wal-Mart, and it's a simple black one with a D-ring for a leash or whatever :) and i typically wear it around school. Lol the trolls always make themselves look foolish. It helps to hot glue some felt strips to the parts where the nylon has been melted. Makes it a million times mor comfortable =^_^=
My boyfriend and I got new collars, so I figured I'd show them to all of you. :)
Let me know what you think.

O.O thats... ADORABLE! i love it :)
I have to agree, they are really cute! :)
I LOVE collars, my sense of fashion leans more towards... gothy. Because of this, wearing them never has really looked out of place on me. That said, my collars are more.... gothy as well.

This is my favorite collar right here. Yeah, I know its not traditionally furry, but I feel its a good representation of my fursona. My mom and my friends make so many jokes about getting a leash for me. In fact, after an anime club rave at college, a friend made a leash out of glow stick bracelets and led me around, I loved it! :D
(http://store.vampirefreaks.com/products/06/collars_clawspikes.jpg)
I'm thinking about getting one of these next, the claw spikes are defiantly more furry, in my opinion.
Someday, when I get enough money, I want to get something from the collar factory. Perferabaly with spikes and a d-ring where I can hang a little bell from. (:
i too lived in ashville once....i wish everywhere was like ashville all peaceful and stuff, but then life would be boring. :DIt all really depends on the area.
I LOVE that place! Been there a lot. :) I know what you mean too.
i made a collar the other day :)

but my dad dosent know x_x
i decided i wanted to put a phipaw on the collar ;)

I want to use a leash eventually. Would much rather have someone else on the other end though. That sounds like a good starting point.
See the people at my school are sooooo critizing so I wear a cat collar around my wrist. I don't think I'd be able to take the heat of people critizing me.
That's cool. Is that a dog collar or one that is specially made for people?
my brother left and i never remove my collar,it has become a part of me; so i gave him the best gift i could- i cut my collar in half and made 2 bracelets one for him and one for me
Violence is never the answer, but if it is the question, then yes! Just kidding, violence is NEVER THE ANSWERviolence is too the answer sometimes(however rarely) even ghandi admitted as much.
is it obvious to other people that your a furry to wear a collar around your neck or wrist. or is it less obvious to wear it around your wrist, because i wanted to wear one of my dogs collars to school and wanted to know before hand so that it wouldn't be a dead give away that I'm a furry.

xD I'm getting a new collar, I just buy them from Petsmart.
I have a question. I started wearing my collar when school was out, and I really don't want to stop wearing it in September. Do you think a school will allow a collar? I mean, I don't see why not. There's no spikes or anything dangerous. :P

You can always wear it, and if a teacher or administrator tells you to take it off, then it's not allowed. You can also get a copy of the dress code and see if it explicitly denies collars.
I bought my first collar from the Hot Topic store, it's a nice simple black leather strap with a buckle and a single ring. The only thing I have to accessorize it is a dog tag with "Kirby" etched on it. I bought this and decided to wear it wherever I went when I started the 9th grade. I wore it to school, around the house, shopping, everywhere (I even wore it when I went with a church group to New Orleans on a charity drive). I got a lot of stares and jabs, but I grew up being the most unpopular kid in school so it was easy to shrug off. Trust me, you will get a LOT of "Hey, why do you wear a dog collar?" or "Are you a dog or something?" even though you may think enough people have asked, their will always be someone new to ask.
Lol, this one time I was so sick of people asking I decided the next person who'd ask I would make up a story to mess with them. This redhead girl I had an ugly history with asked me the question.
Girl: "Why do you wear a dog collar?"
Me: " Well, you see my mom is very worried about sexual abusers and kidnappers so she told me to wear this in case I get lost."
I got no response until next period (We had the same two periods in a row) when she came up to me and asked "Were you telling me the truth with that?"
I wouldn't advise lying to people because they might take it seriously. But if you're going to make wearing a collar a part of your wardrobe, just be ready for the questions, jabs, and stupidity.

I'm in the same situation, I've always been the most unpopular guy at my school. I think if I got one I could just shrug the hate off like everyone else.

Maybe you should wear it but if the hate gets too intense(Violence etc.) take it off?
But I wouldn't take it off in front of the harassers because they would probably start up with comments like
"Kitty can't defend himself can he? Woof Woof!" You know, the general stupid bullying stuff >:(

I kinda wanna get one just to see if I like it or not, but i'm not sure how my mom would react. Shes okay with me being a furry, but she only knows about the art. My dad doesn't know that i'm a furry (to my knowledge) and he most likely wouldn't be accepting of it. Maybe something for the future, though. :/
i have a brand new (got yesterday) blue dog collar from wal-mart. It matches my main fursona, except no bell, which I am putting on once I get back to moms. I also got a chew toy, the cashier was like, "For the new puppy?" I just shrugged and smiled. It was so awkward... But now I have two things off of my furry list :D (well, one, I already had a collar, it just wasn't the right color...That is awesome!
Sorry if this is a dumb question, but we just want to make sure. :-[
Does anyone know if collarfactory.com is still active? We can't tell, and we don't want to mess up our purchase, since that would be really awkward to explain to our mother. :P

I went into Pet Kingdom and started trying on collars (:. A manager came up and asked if I needed assistance finding a collar. I was embarrassed for a second :-[, then asked him which ones looked better on me. I ended up getting a red one with a yellow circle tag with the name "Xephe" imprinted on it.(Had to take it to PetSmart to get it engraved anyways). The manager, who was named David, didn't seem weirded out at all. So it was cool. :D
A long time ago I used to wear a black collar with silver pawprints ... that is, until the metal in the clasp started TURNING MY NECK GREEN. :'(
I haven't worn a collar since, but lately I've kind of been window shopping. There's a huge variety of interesting collars on Etsy; I could click through the pages all day :>
This made me wonder if anyone has worn falconry hoods or jesses or anything like that? o.o The avian versions of collars, in a sense...
I tried searching and found nothing. Anyone heard of this?
I used to work at the World Center for Birds of Prey up in ID, got to work a lot with falcons and hawks and whatnot, messed around with equipment. I've got a little leatherworking kit at home, I should totally see if I can hit the leather store and make something. I bet I've got a bunch of old falconry gear patterns stored on my computer somewhere.

$16 off of Amazon and it glooooows ^.^ I am going to an EDM night at the local club and going to wear it out for the first time. First collar I have bought/worn in a while. It will be a good way to ease my way back into wearing one (used to wear one constantly for 3-4 years)

id tell you how I got it, but ah... this is a p-g forum, no?
I will however tell you how I lost it.Should've taken it off then ;) but I think he did take it too far.
i refused to take it off at school, and at lunch, i felt a little tug on my collar, and i thought master was playing with me. then i felt something long, thin, and cold against my neck. it could only have been one thing, but my brain couldn't register what was happening fast enough, and the scissors went *snip* and i wanted to kill the idiot principle, i wanted to destroy the guy, to break him into as many small pieces as physically possible, but master held me back whispering calming words and cute things alternately in my ear. I still wanna kill that stupid principle.
I will however tell you how I lost it.My god, that pisses me off :P I think I would've punched the guy. Jeez, now I want to.

Or snip the end of his tie off XD

Also. If someone tries to cut this off my neck, I will cut off their tie.
I wear it because I think it looks cute. And a dress code doesn't give anyone the right to destroy one's property.
You're probably right. It doesn't. But what's done is done. It's all in the past now. Could there have been a better way to "restrict" wearing a collar at school? Maybe. But as I said, I don't know what the school policies and such are where Aanu lives.
That's just wrong, and that story pisses me off every time I read it. Honestly puts me in a bad mood. There are other ways to enforce a dress code. Like detentions. That principal was definitely in the wrong, I don't care what the dress code is. I hate his guts and I haven't even met the guy.
Yes, the Principal probably was wrong to do what he did. Perhaps a better way would have simply been to "confiscate" the collar for a period of time, then return it to the student at the end of the day after school is done or at a different time point. But this whole situation is not for you or anybody else to worry about. Only Aanu and/or his parents and/or the school faculty can resolve this issue.
Hate to say it, but if any school were to say NO COLLARS!, then that is their rule. Period.
Well the thing is, you're just assuming that it's a dress code thing.

Made this one myself and wear it now and then. When it's not too hot anyway.
