I'm curious about a strange phenomenon on my Furtopia web site, if I go
to my site,
http://www.saintlybernard.furtopia.org/index.html
to listen to music, it doesn't take long to show my site, only about 30
seconds, but the players don't activate, the play buttons remains faded
and non functioning for five and a half minutes, after which when the
play button is pressed it begins down loading the song and in a minute
or two it starts playing.
Now on the other hand if I type one of my songs like so,
http://www.saintlybernard.furtopia.org/chase.mp3
in my address bar, my media player pops on and starts down loading
immediately, and in a minute or two it starts playing, what is causing
the very long delay on my
http://www.saintlybernard.furtopia.org/index.html site?
Since this also happens when my brother tries to access my site from his
own computer at his house, I assume it's not a problem with my computer,
but it likely happens to everyone who tries to view my Furtopia site.
Any ideas as to what the problem might be?

I tried out your site, Saintly, and the players loaded pretty quickly for me. Try clearing out your browsers cache, and all your temps (Win XP/2000) by clicking Start --> Run --> %temp% and deleting all files, restart your puter, and try re-accessing the site.

I looked at the HTML on your site. I don't see any reason for the delay as you saw the server can serve out data quite fast. Perhaps there is an error in your player? Perhaps try and look for a diffrent java based one?

I rewrote my....
http://www.saintlybernard.furtopia.org/index.html
site page, and removed all the embedded players, now it seems to work
right, it appears that more then one player per page causes the computer
to hang on the site, especially if one is using a dialup connection, as
it tries to load all the players at once, this probably wouldn't be a
problem for someone using DSL.

Since I have my browser set to ignore embedded media, it loaded at the same speed both ways.

I left the embedded player on my two Halloween sites,
http://www.saintlybernard.furtopia.org/igtgy.htm
http://www.saintlybernard.furtopia.org/worms.htm
being as with one player it only takes about a few seconds to load.
I have lyrics on these sites, and I thought it was nice having a player
with a play button one could press to listen to the music and not have
anything in the way of the lyrics.
Before I changed my index.html site it took more then 5 minutes for it
to work "on my computer" if I had went to someone's site that took that
long to work I would have thought it didn't work at all.
