Anyone in high school or was in high school and went through it being a furry? How was your experience? Were there other furries at your school or were you a loner? :)
Personally, being a junior and going to a school of only 150 total(about 40 per class), I'm the only one and it is tough but I'm getting used to it. :) I even yelled "Furry!" in homeroom.

There were a number of furries there whom I knew and hung out with. Then again, we had 3.2k+ people, so...

I turned furry my freshman year (I'm a junior now) and so far I've survived.
I've actually met two other furries at school, although one is now going to a different school and the other graduated. (But I still maintain contact with both of them.) I've also met quite a few anti-furries too. :o
For the most part I keep my furry-ness to myself, unless someone gets a hint from the dog collar. :P

I became furry in freshman year too, but there are around 146 anti-furries and 3 neutral lol, I don't wear collars ot tails, but I do wear a purple scarf (like in my icon and signature) all the time at school :D

I started wearing a collar to school in around February of this year.
I got a new collar in October, and a friend of mine made me a tail, and sewed cat ears on my hoodie. I'm pretty open about it, and my friends think furry is pretty cool.
Some friends from school are furs, including Kishi, so it's nice to hang out with them all the time, talking about various..furry things.

I used to go to a school with 4k+ kids so I had better chances of finding at least 1 furry but then I most to this school DX

I have only once in my entire life happened across someone who even already knew what furries are, and the worst he did was make a silly (though negative) joke that no one else in the room understood. I live in an area where there is supposedly a lot of furries about.
Highschoolers (and children in general) can be viscous. If they don't have something to make fun of you over, they'll make something up. If you wear a collar, or a tail to school, don't be astonished if there's flak over it. That doesn't mean, of course, that it wouldn't be nice if there wasn't. (:

I've never had any negativity that I can remember - ironically, the most negative things I heard was from one of my furry friends, about himself (he was all depressed at the time).

I have had people comment on my collar..And tail, for the couple of times I've worn it to school. Some people compliment, but some people either know what furries are, or think they know the darker sides of the fandom.
In a lighter sense, I've met several furs around the school that way. Makes for a nice conversation starter :).

never had any problems at school as i didn't really discover about being 'furry' till around 2002, then found my fursona about 2-3month ago.
i used to draw anthro characters in art class, my teacher and friends all thought they were cool, even had one up on display in a 'best in school art' cabinet in the main entrance to the school, wish i still had that drawing.

I guess maybe I made it sound worse than it is? Whenever a conversation happens to lead towards the "furry" topic, I try and steer it in that direction...this happens like once a month though. But whenever this happens, everybody brings up the very inappropriate aspects if it. I really don't see actually telling people as anything important.

Sometimes it comes up, yah, but in freshman year I was unfortunate enough to be dogged by a rather rude and aggressive 4channer, who just found out through the grapevine.

Most of the people at my school have little to absolutely no idea what being a furry is >:(. The only real socialization time I get is at lunch and I sit at a table with about 4-5 guys. These people are my closest friends so I (being sick of secrecy) IM'd one of them who I regularly play tf2 with online "I think im furry" trying to give it a humorous spin, and with a few conversations, I finally got my secret out (to at least them) with almost no backfire. Of course, they were close friends, and like me, almost all misfits. Funny thing is that the only person in the group who knew what a furry was, out of all the stereotypes in the group, the gay (whom we all love dearly) :D. Things have been going fine ever since. Im a freshman.
Just wanted to tell that story. Probably help some people in high school who are tired of being lonely.

I'm only furry in my school and the only one who wears a collar. Most of my friends know I'm furry though and they totally support furries too. My closer friends which sit at my lunch table (which consist of 4 girls and 3 guys) figurerd out I was a furry when I showed up to a halloween party in my fursuit :D I'm pretty open about it when they ask questions.

There are about 6 of us at my school... being a senior and a furry isn't bad.... u can still look cooler than the freshman with a collar on, who doesn't like the collar look anyways?

I am a current high school fur, at least until the year is over. Then I'll be a college furry! ^.^
But yeah, I don't think anyone at my school knows that I'm a furry and I really doubt that anybody in my grade even knows what a furry is. There are people in the grades below who know what a furry is, but they still don't know I'm one. :/

Ive never really cared enough either way...

*raises paw* I'm a junior in my highschool. Unfotunately, I am what appears to be the ONLY one in my school. (or, at least, the only one that is aware of his own furriness) The closest thing to another fur in my school is my best friend, and that's mainly because of his understanding and open-minded personality (that, and he's posted on here for a few months). *sigh* It gets so lonely sometimes... :(

Joined the forum in my Sophomore year I think... Wore a tail to school a few times and a collar once. Not many people cared, and if they did I didn't care that they did. :P :)

I was interested in anthro art for a long time; I even was developing a character who would later become Traitos. However, when I finally learned about furries, I was in my sophmore year, I had no idea what it was seeing as I only heard the name. When I looked it up (due to all the sites that provide info that puts furries down) I felt embarrased about liking anthro art. So I was silent about it until I decided to look up more info and discovered wikifur. Now I accept it but my passive nature keeps me quiet about the whole thing.
I still sometimes feel like my info on the matter is just not quite right.

I turned my best friend furry without trying. She originally was just into the anime fandom, thus only caring about furries to the point of catgirls (though she never ever said anything bad about them). Then when I dropped out of the fandom for a year, she joined it. What luck!
When I go back to America, I'll be going to a much larger school then what I was before so I'm hoping I'll be able to find some furs or more people to accidentally convert.

(We almost even started a club, but the person who was going to found it got caught up in school work, and never got around to applying for the creation of it.)

So i bring up FCN today after eighth period (i call it recovery period :D) and get questioned, after telling them it's a furry convention, my GENIUS friend starts going on about how it's a fetish where all the people like to have gay sex with cartoon animals in mascot suits. >:(

Luckily I caught the person later and negated all that information replacing it with cold hard facts... whew!
Even worse yet, my GENIUS friend isn't willing to learn about the fandom and just says its weird. Oh how stubborn souls must be. >:(
Anyway, I haven't been mortally injured yet so i can't say things are going badly :D

People reacted strange at first but they have just got used to it hell i even yell out YIFF in class all the time i even write iit on teachers boards just to anger the fur-haters in my school :)

I'm currently a sophmore and I don't think I'm the only furry at my school but I can't tell. For example some of the kids ( including a couple of my friends ) wear tails but I can't tell if it's because they are trying be like the ravers or shuflers or actual furrys.

I went to 2 high schools and looking back I think I was the only furry in both of them. I didn't find out about furries until 1st yr of college (im in my 3rd yr of college). Aside from me there's only one other fur in school, and we tend to hang out around campus. Aside from one 'incident' last year (a -chan obsessed student discovered my furriness and called me a common furry insult out loud), I've never had any problem even when I frequently draw furs in class.

I'm still in high school, and while I'm not openly furry there is a girl a few grades below me who talks constantly about the fandom and even wears ears & a tail to school. But she's the only other furry I know besides myself and my closest friend.

Most of my friends really don't care about my being a furry one way or the other. They find the naked art sorta weird (it's Barbie-like nudity but still) but other than that, they just don't care. I don't wear ears, a collar, or a tail, though, because my school has a strict uniform policy. Maybe in college but until then, I'm tailless o3o

I go to a fairly large school (1000+ students) and there's only two other furries, but I'm still happy I'm not the only one :D One of them is quite new to the fandom, mostly because after she asked me several questions about the fandom she decided to be a shrimp-furry :)
I don't really wear a tail or collar yet, but I will probably start next year if I have the guts xD

It's been awhile (try a few years) since i was in school- but I used to be the little kid in all black sitting in the corner, doodling anthros. Everyone in my school pretty much ignored me so i was kind of the lone wolf in that respect :P BUT- i fursuited duting school spirit week, and ALWAYS wore my tail and collar ^^. Now I've got a tattoo >.>;;;

I was already bullied for being fat/weird/gothy/emo/whatever they could pin to me, so if I had said I'm a furry, they would've killed me. (I live way up in the country, when I made a slideshow about Gay Pride, most of the boys said "gays are disgusting and should be euthanized like horses with limps.")

Well, I'm not quite in high school (next year, can't wait!) but middle school is close enough, right?
Anyways, I'm mostly home-schooled and live in a tiny town, so the chances of me finding another furry are low at best. And even when I used to wear ears to school, (oddly enough, that was BEFORE I knew anything about furry) pretty much all the attention I got for it was positive.
In fact, the only "negative" attention I got was when someone finally told me that my ears were considered a "costume" and therefore not allowed. Which kind of makes sense, but I had been wearing them fairly frequently and publicly (Not hiding them from teachers or anything) so I was just surprised no one had noticed before. In fact, I don't think anyone even told me what the dress code was. Weird.
(Off topic, but IceDag, what is the "covered in BEES!" underneath your avatar a reference to? I'm guessing Eddie Izzard, but I'm not quite sure....)

I am a High School furry. I am going to be a senior next year. I like my school a lot. It is a school of arts and sciences, but there are no furries I know of here. :( It gets pretty lonely.

I'm a high'school furry, and actually we have a little group of about 4 (only three now) furries who all would wear collars and hang out at lunch. apparently before I came up to the high school there was this big thing about it that almost got collars and tails banned. but by the time I came up all that had blown over. I only started getting into furries late late freshman year and only got the nerve to wear a collar late sophomore year. I'm going into junior year, and our previous alpha has just graduated. so now I'm the new one apparently. By the way being the alpha of our little pack is more of a title that anything. but i digress. I'm hoping to get some new furry freshmen this year ^~^ the only bad part is that one of the furs in our class is actually going to running start, so it'll be just me and mah kitty friend. :P

Running Start is a program where you go off to college your Junior and Senior years in High School, and in my opinion kinda sucks, because that's two years less your friends can see you on a regular basis. Oh and doing running start is way cheaper than going to college for another two years.

i became a furry around the beginning of my sophmore year. my friends know i'm a furry and really dont care cause they love me :D. i would put it more out there that i'm a furry but there are crazy gangbangers at my school and i dont wanna get stabbed again :P

I was active in the fandom all throughout high school, even though that was outside of my school itself.
To my knowledge, there was one other furry there, but we did not get along. We were in the fandom for, very, *ahem*, different reasons, we'll say.

I didn't even know what a furry was while in high school, and I didn't became a furry until February 18th, 2011, which was eight months after I graduated high school.
I also found out my best friend from high school was a furry, but unfortunately it was after we graduated.
Besides him, though, I don't really know if my high school had any furs since I didn't really know about furry until after I graduated. And I didn't even have the slightest clue to what it was until April 2010, when I was a Senior.

I'm the only furry in my school (I think). I turned furry in 8th grade, and I'm now in sophomore year. I go to a high-end Catholic school, so I really have to dial things down. I don't know what my classmates opinions are; I mean, I really don't want to have to deal with any angry catechism teacher.

I was the only furry, my closer friends knew i was a furry which ended up spreading around school but no one really cared, I was treated the same. I am very big with hookah and everyone followed so I was the one to come to for advice lol, never had problems.

I am a Sophomore in High School, but the only other furry around is my friend (Kovu21796); well, that I know of anyway. We go to a Catholic prep school of about 420 kids. I'm a casual fur, and don't normally make it obvious I am a fur; sure, I've caught myself absentmindedly doodling anthros in class, but that's about it. I don't htink there are any other furs around my school.

Running Start is a program where you go off to college your Junior and Senior years in High School, and in my opinion kinda sucks, because that's two years less your friends can see you on a regular basis. Oh and doing running start is way cheaper than going to college for another two years.
My high school had a similar program called Dual Credit, but its primary difference is the fact that you took only 1 college course per semester on top of your high school curriculum, and that course counted as credit for the purpose of both high school and college. The course could be an on-campus course (in which case you drove to and from the college during the school day, and thus had a lighter class load due to commute time) or online (which allowed for taking a load greater than the "maximum" 8 credits/semester for high school).
I took online CS classes through this program for three of my Junior and Senior semesters of high school. As someone who values advanced education but still appreciates time with friends, I found this to be an optimal program for myself. You might consider asking if your college has a similar program, if the previous statement also applies to you as well. It's worth noting that though such a program would occupy some of your evening and weekend time (for studying and homework of the extra class), your time at lunch and other classes with friends would not be sacrificed.

Im a junior and I just recently got involved in the fandOm and so far nobody really knows im a furry yet but im planning to tell my friends soon. So far i think i may be the only furry an my school

I am at secondary school, which as far as I know is like high school but in the UK. I'm 15, does that help? We have a uniform, so there's no scope for tail/collar wearing usually, although I have got away with wearing a collar on a non-uniform day. In a year's time I'll be in sixth form, and I won't have to wear uniform at which point I am going to try a collar and tail and see where that takes me. There is one other furry that I know about, she is my best friend and I converted her.

went to my cousins UAB volley ball game today..some guy had a hat witha dragon's head, a tail, and wings...epicness 2.0! (it's college, but i still cant wait for that part of life!)

I have sniffed out my school, and have found 4 more Furrys! One is obnoxious. One of them I believe has a full fur suit (I have seen here hand and foot paws.) Another has only the ears and tail. And the final one... Is a furvert x_x She has drawings of her fursona, and they are all she furs topless... She even distributed one around the room. In the end I took it and locked it away (in my do not open for 4 years box, which I save my money) and am now drawing a picture of my fursona glaring in disapproval. The funny thing is I am also going to get a grade for it from my art teacher. :)

I was out of school entirely a few years before I discovered Furry. However a lot of my Furry tendencies started to show up in Junior High. That's when my dog obsession really flared up. For fun a friend of mine and I each created our own universe of characters to draw comics about. His was science fiction with aliens and spaceships and such. Mine involved a pack of dogs who fought monsters, a rival clan of cats and a particularly psychopathic dogcatcher among other enemies. I was constantly having to come up with new villains for them to fight. They rarely survived through more than one or two stories. I spent more time working on those characters than I did doing actual schoolwork.
That was also when my ambition to become a dog artist started flaring up. I wanted to make a living drawing dogs, painting dogs, building dog puppets and animatronics and things like that. And while I still have a lot of those dreams I've pretty much given up hope of ever being able to do it.

Only met one person who might even possibly be a furry but have met plenty of people who are anti-furry so I don't tend to wear a tail or ears. Oddly enough a lot of those anti-furries are my friends and they shut there traps about being anti-furry quick when they found out I was one. I guess it was more so just to have something to stand for, you know. I once heard my friend Nick say "Yiff in hell furries" but I haven't heard him say anything like that ever since he realized he knew one. I guess he realized that having a friend is more important than referencing some stupid meme culture....

for going to a school of about 4K people i only know of 3furries in there... o.o the one i've known since like 1st grade but we dont talk anymore, his gf which i've know since like 7th grade who is psycho -____- no we don't get along, lol. and i just found one last year who was in my english class ^_^ but even we never really hit it off with each other... idk what it is about me meeting furs in person, or if its just bcause i knew who they were before i found out they were furries. i always wondered if there were more furs but im not really sure how to find out. but anyways no one in my school knows im a fur, or would even guess it. if they knew what one was... lol

i was a furry starting my freshman year..and i was DEFINATELY alone.
i was the kid that EVERYONE picked and teased from elementary all the way till i got my diploma.
furry had nothing to do with it, but it SURE as heck didnt help my situation. i would wear a tail and tottaly get ripped on for it.
a collor...same results..but i stayed with it...mostly because i knew that no matter what i wore people hated me so what was the difference?
high school was real hard for me. i almost didnt make it

Most of my close friends know I'm a fur (they're some cool people; glad to know them) and occasionally they'll poke fun at me but it's never anything serious.
I don't wear anything like ears, a tail, or a collar because my school has a pretty strict dress code and there's plenty of students who'd never shut up about it if I tried to, so I'm pretty discrete with my furriness(well, not counting my sketchbook xD).
I was actually really surprised when I was talking to a guy who sits behind me in my German class and during conversation he looked around before whispering that he's a furry. I was really happy to find out I'm friends with another fur :D

Highschool furs for the win. Me, my mate, my sister, my best friend, and one of my other guy friends are all furs. We all wear partial suits to school and we get odd looks but none of us care. The stuff think it's cute, and because we're like like, having a huge furpile in the middle of the hallway or hurting anyone they don't say anything to us.

Yeah, there's also another school in my area with about 6,000 students. It's absolutely insane. It should be two schools but they won't split and build a new one.

Uh my school is pretty large but there are no other furries as far as I know. My friends really don't care that I'm into it do I guess it doesn't matter. It would be fun to meet some irl furries though. I'll keep looking, since as a freshman, there are lots of people I don't know.

But i don't know how to run a club or even get one started so if any one could shed some light on it and tell me every thing you know about it before 10 in the morning today i would really appreciate it so much.

If its just a hanging out group, get a teacher to be your advisor, and get it approved by the school. Or, go unofficial, and possibly get kicked. In my school, you need a teacher to supervise any group...

dont worry about being the only fur at your school haha i dont know any other furries at my school but im sure theres a few. my advice is to try and make connections (at school or otherwise) chances are theres a meetup or some sort of furry event around your part

being openly furry at school, especially High School, is... different. Kids at school are overly judgmental. Admitting your furry is like saying your gay (no offense). If you say it, and people accept it, than great. But if no one accepts it, the damage is done. you're theoretically dead for the rest of high school. No matter what, there are always going to be that group of students who are going to be against you and our fandom. No one at my high school knows, but soon my friend will. I figure that this is who I am and I will live the rest of my life as a furry. If he doesn't accept it, then that's fine, but I won't change just to keep a friend. More friends will come.

i actually found another furry tuesday at my algibra class out of nowhere. i was finishing i picture and he turns around and says "hay your a furry" i didn't think any thing of it at the time so i said "yah i was" then after class i asked him how he new about the fandom and thats when he told me that he was a furry. i'm so happy to know that thares another furry in this school besides me.

I have one other furry in my school. She's one of my best friends, and I introduced her to the fandom about, I dunno, 2 months ago? Ive been in the fandom for over two years, maybe three. She came into school today with a wolf tail she made by herself, and I have to say; I was the proudest I'd ever been in my entire life. I leaned back in my chair and said "That's my little furry, oh her." during class when she had it on. I'm building a fursuit right now, and she wants to build one too.
But other than that, I've never asked. I don't know of any, mostly because I don't try to bring it up. My friend Trevor knows and understands, but only because I explained. He thought we were all YIFFERS. I told him about us though and he supports it. But I'm in one of higher crowds of people, you could say, lots of people know who I am, so if people found out I want to wear a fursuit and wear tails....oh LAWD, that would be interesting >:(

Dude, two close friends of mine came out TO me about being furry... It was great, because I was able to refer them to here and other sites. One of them joined, ForestLover, the other is way too shy.... This makes me happy though!!!!

I am only in eighth grade and I don't know anybody here who is a furry.I don't even know anybody who has any intrest in things as such. I think I made it plainly obvious to my friends that I'm a furry, but that dosen't mean too much, for, they (for the most part) don't even know what a furry is.

I am in 10th grade and homeschooled, but one of my public school friends recently joined me in my furriness. I also have two other homeschooled friends who have made fursonas to role-play with us, though I don't think they are comfortable with the idea of being considered furries. Most of my friends don't know I'm a furry, but it's not like I'm hiding it or anything (I don't know why anyone would, it's just a fandom like Anime or Star Trek or anything else, nothing to be ashamed of), it just never comes up and I see no reason to make a big deal out of it. If someone asks, I'll proudly tell them, but I doubt they even know or care what it is. :D

I just found out today that there's a kid at my school that's also a furry, and a glowstringing raver no less. Just like me. I used to be friends with him, but then with school schedules, we sort of grew apart. I never knew he was a furry, always knew he was weird and liked glowsticks, but never a furry. I'm going to try and reconnect with him! :D

I'm that quiet, crazy kid in the corner that everyone just expects to say random crud on the topic at hand, and then squirrel herself away. Nobody, except the people that I tell, knows that I'm furry, and the people that I tell don't remember because I'm not a true hardcore lifestyler. :P Oh well, I guess that means that I don't get the short end of the stick?

Actually, even without mandatory uniforms, its still hard to spot another furry. Firstly, most of them dont necessarily walk around with a phipaw on their forehead. There are several girls at my school that wear tails, but most if not all of them just wear them because they are "cute." None if any are actually furries. I know of one furry guy at my school, but thats because he is so open about not only his furriness, but also his bisexuality. For the most part, I dont think any bullies go near him because he is unaffected by them and, to be honest, I think he makes them uncomfortable. :P So, I dont think its that easy anyways to find a furry because tails are now becoming less of a furry thing, and more of a general fashion statement, like a necklace of sorts. And I know of noone who wheres a collar because our disciplinary guy told some girl it could be used as a weapon against her in the case of a fight. Really....? I found that stupid, but whatever, now no one wears a collar anymore....

I just graduated. There were 64 students in my graduating class. Throughout the whole high school I managed to convert five of my friends into furs. We're a small town that never gets any more cultured than shoveling cow crap, so no one really knew what it was. It made it easier to leave a good impression.

I'm in year 9 this year. My highschool is fairly large, with something upwards of a thousand students, but I don't think anyone even knows what a furry is, let alone is one. I even drew an anthro in class once; it turned out pretty good, and I got a comment from someone, but he thought it was out of a game or something.
And then, only very recently, when all of the year below and my year's students were together in the same room for a morning tea, someone from year 8 came in dressed in some sort of fursuit beanie. It looked like a red panda or a weasel, and had these long flaps on it that served as furry gloves. And she just ran everywhere, hugging and petting everybody :o.
I wanted to say something, but I didn't hear the word 'furry' anywhere, so decided against it. I wish I had a furry buddy, though.

Almost no one knows I'm a furry. Basically two friends do and that's it. I'm fine with that, actually. I don't flaunt my furriness, and I don't have anything to show it off.
Don't feel the need to have people view me as a furry. I had a hard enough time fitting in when I was younger, and I've got a few friends now, and I wouldn't want them to see me in any other way. But the way they see me now is still me.

I go to a high school of around 650 students, but I doubt more than a handful (if any) have even heard of the fandom/culture. I'm currently a freshman, so all I can do is guess right now, but maybe over the next few years I'll discover that there are others like me. My school seems pretty closed minded as a whole, so being openly furry isn't that great of an idea. This may change over the years though. All I'm going to do now is sit back and wait. :)

I don't think many of my classmates would know what a furry really is, minus a couple of them that I have talked to about it. I'm open about my furriness to anyone who is interested, though. There's nothing to be ashamed of, after all.

Nobody in my school is a furry, as far as I know, So its becoming strange to me, I feel that ever since I turned Furry i've been standing out from the group, and that I have no-one to relate to. :(

Being a furry in high school for me was really annoying. When some of my friends found out about it they decided they wanted to be a part of it and kinda ruined it for me. They started wearing tails/collars to school and eventually THAT was the group everyone started making fun of. So I told my friends I wasn't really into the fandom anymore. lol@highschoolpolitics.

I'm only in middle school and I'm the only furry I know of. We have a strict uniform policy. I also go to a Catholic school (Even though I'm not Catholic) and I'm pretty sure being a furry would be ethically wrong. Just like being a homosexual. The only person that knows is my gay (I'm not gay) friend that lives over 500 miles away.

I am in highschool, freshman, but when I was in 8th, there was this Senior who used to have a skunk hoodie and backpack with a tail on it on my bus, (middle and high are on the same bus, never actually got to talk to her though) but other than my half-furry friends, (they like anthros, have pokesonas, those are close enough to fursonas, my cousin/only female friend in my town, wore a tail to school on haloween, but to my knowledge they don't really know much about the fandom.) my school is wonderfully tolerant of furries, no dress code, the teachers are cool with my brand of crazy, so they were not really surprised when I wore my tail brown cat tail. (I wore one all last week :)) the kids either loved it or didn't notice it, but I don't think anybody knows what a furry is...

I'm a sophomore tryin to make it through till college. Right now I don't know of anyone at my school knows what a furry is. With how redneck most of my classmates are I don't think being openly furry is a good decision for me. I guess small town furries don't find other furs often.

Homeschooled. I assume I'd be a sophomore , maybe? Not an expert with public school anymore.
Nevertheless, I'd keep my furriness to myself, until someone catches me drawing anthro animals in class. I wouldn't wear paws or bark, but maybe I'd occasionally come in while wearing a fursuit or wearing a tail.
