Title: I hearbye declare 2020 the Year Of The Lost Con
Post by: Mister Initial Man on August 31, 2020, 05:30:52 am
What with so many conventions being cancelled or postponed, I think that's a fitting title for this year.  I have other titles I could use, but I really ought to avoid profanity.

No cons for anyone. All the Sci-fi and steampunk cons I attend are not happening this year as well.

I've taken to referring to it as The Year of No Fun.

You don't want to be going to a con at this time or even to Texas. Going to a con while this virus is still running rampant is just a bad idea. Unless you're going in full level five hazmat containment you're still gonna run the risk of infection. Even if it doesn't get in your body it could still get on your clothes and be carried around and infect someone else, I know the window for that type of thing is small but still...

Texas is one of the most infected states in the US right now because our Lt. Governor Dan Patrick thinks the lower classes dying for the sake of the economy is okay. I'm not exaggerating when I say he said on national TV "There are more important things than living".

I'm glad I got out of there before it was too late because Texas has just completely lost its mind. People not wearing masks, people not taking the virus seriously (yeah 200,000 americans dead naaaah that's not serious), people not social distancing or taking any measures at all to keep themselves and others safe.

It's not just Texas, but also Florida and Georgia that's resistant to wearing masks too.

Anyway.........I'm willing to bet Midwest Furfest and Further Confusion will be canceled as well as this virus situation keeps getting worse.

I was relieved when I learned Denfur changed its mind and postponed the con 1 year.

For the life of me I can't figure out why no one has come up with a "No con" badge idea. Get yourself a charity. Then sell as many badges as you can to donate to that charity.  they could have three levels. "Bummed" "Really Bummed" and "I'm So Bummed I'm actually missing PCD".

I know it is grave digging...
At Denfur 2021 there was a furson selling "2020 the year of the dead convention" pins.
They were out or I would have purchased one.

I have no idea why this forum, and this forum alone, obsesses over this.  (: Just the other day, a notification landed in my  inbox from DiY Audio that I had a reply. It was from a thread I started in Ought 8, asking if I still had the plans available for an amplifier I designed in Ought 5. I directed the poster to my Drop Box where he could get everything he asked for. It was the first reply since Ought 8. Thread necromancy occurs there all the time and no one complains.  :)
