Title: Furry Jewelry
Post by: firefox_b on October 02, 2003, 12:16:03 pm
Another open lifestyle question: does any fur wear furry jewelry besides myself?  You know, bracelets, necklaces, rings, etc. with either the name or image of your species?  For example, I have several necklaces with fox heads on them, and a bracelet or two with either my on-line name or species engraved on it.  It's kind of another way of proclaiming your furry identity, as well as keeping in touch with your inner self.  Jewelry unlike a fursuit can also be worn anytime.  Has anyone ever tried making or selling furry jewelry?  Inquiring minds wanna know... ;)

The only thing I wear that could be considered furry jewelry is a necklace my friend got me. It's a gay pride necklace with a lion in the center. While my fursona isn't a lion, I am a Leo, according to the zodiac, which is why she bought me this one.

I've made a few bracelets and necklaces; craft stores carry most of what you need.  Leather is cool to work with, too, and can be easily stamped and personalized.  I just don't feel right unless I'm wearing something associated with my fursona, and if others notice it, it's a great conversation starter!  Maybe I'll even be able to win a few furry converts someday!  (If I get several, I can win a toaster oven!;)    ;)

Sorry to make you a tad envious tbear I have a pendant thats a bears head I wear a bit unfortunatly the place Igot it from no longer sells them as I would have given you a link. I also have a "clay" type pendant circular white with a bear paw print on it wich very cool and I wear all the time. It is a reminder a deffinate furry peice of jewllry. I also have a full set of silver claw rings for  one hand. They are very nice but I don't wear them that much as A it waer out the rings there not that thick. and B freeks people out just a touch I do say I would never use them though after all it might damadge them  :)

I normally wear a silver dragon pendant with red eyes which I got quite reasonable due to the fact that St. Thomas carries large surpluses of fine metals and stones. In the mear future I intend to upgrade and have a jeweler custom make me one.

My friends just gave me a bracelet they made. One of our friends turned 19 yesterday, so they made 4 matching bracelets. Mine has beads that spell "FURRY". So cute. It falls of my wrist, so I attatched it to my jacket.

Someone once gave me a necklace with a leopard charm on it. It's neither stripey nor maney, so I don't wear it so often at all. ;)

As for bear stuff, Disney will be having plenty of Brother Bear paraphernalia in the stores soon, I bet. Go and check it out. :)

Well, I've never had a problem finding cat jewelry....  :D
But I'd like to custom make something with my persona on it.

When I was a kid, I found a store in California called "Catterfly" or something like that...
her entire collection of merchandise featured cats with butterfly wings!  I wonder if she's still in business?

My childhood, imaginary best friend was a white cat (about horse size) with butterfly wings, called Cottonpuff... and I base my alter-ego on her.  Although I prefer to be normal cat-size.   :p

*bows* Konnichiwa!

I've been looking all over the place for a necklace with the kanji for Kitsune, but have had no luck so far....I've found foxes in general a little hard to come by in clothes or jewelry, but the letter-block bead idea is a really good one ^.^

I'm sure that there's a real market for furry jewelry.  Maybe some of our membership with an artistic bent could branch off into making species-specific, on-line membership name, or furry-general bracelets, necklaces, rings, etc.  -- How about Furtopia membership jewelry items?  If constructed with affordable metals (no gold or platinum, please), I'd buy some!  ;)

The only thing I got is a St Christopher ring I always wear. I think of it as a mark of respect to my parents as that's who bought me it. I've had it for years now and it's gonna get stuck on my finger soone or later  :D .

I'm lucky enough to have a wolf throw for my bed, and my mom was wicked cool and let me paint my whole bedroom is leopard print. Oh....getting off topic there, yeah...I gots this silver dragon pendant attached to my collar...it was cheap and looked pretty cool so I picked it up. Most of my other jewerly I don't where but I did manage to get this beautiful bracelet for my fur suit...it was made by Tibetian monks, who were visting our school at the time...

Sounds like some people I know.

"Why are you wearing two watches?"

lol.

I have a wolf shirt (timber, though, not arctic) and I want to order some things out of a mag. It's called Knights Edge, mainly swords and armor. But I found jewlery, the celtic wolf slave braclet, earrings, necklace, hair tie, and basicly everything celtic wolf caught my eye!

Hey I just bought a huge "bling" replica necklace,in the shape of the playboy simbol (the bunny head with bowtie).
If you tell me how to,Ill take a pic of it and post it here.
Its an oversized chrome pendant with fake "ice",on a long chrome cord.Obviously its not real,or it would have cost me an arm and a leg,but when its shaking at top speed on my quad noone is the wiser... ;) You wouldnt let the cat out of the bag would you?(Unless it was an antro, lol).

That's where my mom ordered my wolfhead pendant earlier today. I think they've got past the yiff part of furry and looked deeper as they wouldn't buy stuff like that if they didn't agree with furry.

I was considering getting an ID bracelet that said "OblivionWolf~Furry" But it wouldnt fit and I would have had to settle for either "OW~Furry" or "Furry~OW"

Which...would definitly have negative connotations...

If you all want necklaces of your species, check out http://www.lightworkersupplies.com/animaltotems.htm. Loads of good totems, but I'm not sure there's a fox. I know there's lions, wolves, bears, and others for sale there. I wanna get the badger one, but I don't have a credit card, and my mom's kinda goofed up about buying it and me paying her back. Dunno why...

I don't have the money for jewelry, so instead, I grow my nails out to about 1/8", file them to slightly rounded points, and paint them black.

Slightly rounded, so it's harder to hurt myself.  They still hurt, it just requires a bit of pressure.

I use them to scratch people.  My Aikido instructor asked me to clip them because they're a weapon, and if I scratch someone with them, the wound might get infected because of the bacteria.  He says this as if it's a bad thing.

Redfeather from Furbox.net has a waiting list for doing custom furry dog tags.  I'm going to get on the list soon as I can afford it.  I don't normally wear any jewelry, but I have a few dragon pendants at home, most of them several years old.  I tend to identify more with cats than dragons now.

I found this pin at an antique shop....I'm not a gryphon, but I just had to buy him, there was just something about it...don't know what, or why, but my eye just happened to be drawn to the right case, and I knew I had to buy this ^.^

He's only an inch long, and a little tarnished, but the tarnish even looks cool...

I had a white tiger engraved on a necklace.  A spiritual councelor suggested I identify myself with an animal while coming up with a way to confront serious anxiety problems.

I wore it for a while, but for some reason I just don't like wearing jewelry.  BUT I accessorize the dickens out of my fur costume.

Accessorizing fur costumes is actually getting to be a popular expressive trend.  I remember in the early suiting days it was just the costume, but now it's being layered with other means of expressing identity.  It "humanizes" the costume and makes it as natural as walking around as a person.  I was looking for a porcelian sabertooth tooth to add to my collar, or maybe wear it on a heavy leather string around my neck.

:)  Oh yes, especially my faire costume. All my faire favors (pins) I wear on my dublet or pictures of wolves. My pouches have engraved pictures and buttons of wolves. Even added a wolf fox tail to the costume. Don't know if that counts as jewelry? Also have the most wondrous necklace my mate bought me last weekend. A triskelion pendant with a wolf's head. The neatest thing about it, is that it holds a small spounge inside that I soak in lavender, so the fragrance becomes like a perfume. I absolutely love it!

Back to the question, I have lots of jewelry that consist of my fursona. Most I wear with costume.
